It's not yelling per se, it's a recorded message that has the volume cranked up more than a normal human voice - like those annoying TV commercials that come on blaring during breaks. I think the phone has some sort of "smart volume" filter on it and I think some of the telemarketers' technology screws it up.
-
My wife's home office line gets those calls all the time. Really annoying - especially when they call after hours and start yelling the message onto the answering machine.
-
We've already got all our cell numbers on there, but that wouldn't have mattered this morning since it was a "fund raiser" which probably falls under the charities exemption. Besides, the FTC changed the rule so the DNC list does not expire.

Hot of the presses... Worked late last night, tried to sleep in a little this morning. Was kindly awakened by my cell phone going off a few minutes ago. Didn't recognize the number on the caller ID, but since the wife and little one are traveling this week I answered it without thought. Phone line had enough static so I could not understand what the woman was saying - she must have been calling from inside a tunnel underwater - so the line went dead after about 20 seconds. A little Google search on the number reveals that I was awakened by a telemarketer/fundraiser soliciting for something or another. :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

Not as bad as MegaMaid, but at least the job didn't blow. ;) I did, but I had to do it tactfully and tried to bow out gracefully, because this organization is well-known and has a lot of local business and community leaders heavily involved in it. I didn't want to go out guns blazing and burn any other bridges in the community.

Hmmm, I just started a new position a few weeks ago and find one of my coworkers extremely strange...

I don't know why anything that has judges (maybe boxing would be the exception) is included in the Olympics. Judging seems so arbitrary and inconsistent, and it opens itself up to corruption. Oh, and that rhythmic gymnastics crap I caught on the tube this morning? Wow. Thank God we've got that, badminton, speed walking and BMX biking in these games, and that games with true winners/losers like baseball and softball are being bumped from the next Olympiad.

I've been in jobs where the actual work didn't meet my expectations, or my initial responsibilities were slightly different than I expected. But this was night-and-day different - like being hired for a management position and instead serving as a secretary.

Also pissed that the US softball team lost in the GM game. I'm refraining from using the word "choke" because while I think it's appropriate, I'm getting my azz kicked over on TSW for using that word. Even though we lost to a team that we had beaten twice in this Olympics. And haven't lost a game since 2000. And carried a 0.00 ERA into the GM game but allowed 3 runs on 5 hits. And made two errors, loaded the bases with one out in the sixth but couldn't score a run.

Ever been hired for a job and go to your first day or orientation and training and the job is completely different from the job ad, description and what the interviewer told you? Happened to me this week. What a waste of time.

Now we find out that not only is he not actually singing in those commercials, he's not even American. Damn you, FreeCreditReport.com...:wallbash: In fact, Baby-faced Everyman?s sweet folk rock voice ? one that would fit perfectly opening for Superchunk in Chapel Hill, NC sometime in 1992 or narrating a ?School House Rock? lesson ? isn?t even his voice. Because, get this. Dude isn?t even American. Talk about identity theft! Baby-faced Everyman is played with heartbreaking adorability by French Canadian actor Eric Violette ? who is also a skilled singer and musician. So while the 27-year-old isn?t faking the guitar he?s playing on camera, he certainly doesn?t sound like that. Now that you know that, check him out. Violette looks totally different, right? Suddenly he?s Hot Foreign Guy, right? (And ladies, he's single!) Meanwhile, upon gaining this information, a co-worker claimed he could see Eric lip syncing with a French accent, which is totally not true. The guy ? and the commercials ? are just that good. LINK

Good one. And the correct term is be-yotch.

Settle down, Andy Rooney. I think you're right.

Even worse. I'm trying to spread out some of my complaints.

I'm not talking about tailgating because I'm in a hurry. I'm not a tailgater and I hate people who do that to me. There are a lot of hills around here, and when the weather is good, probably 99% of the people drive the same way down them - coasting most of the way, and tapping the brakes occasionally to keep the speed from getting out of control. So when grandma starts riding her brakes all the way down the hill, it forces everyone to do the same thing - so not only am I concerned with rear-ending her, but someone behind me not paying attention and blasting me. Here's a hint - when you hover your pointer over underlined text and the pointer doesn't change from the arrow to the finger, that means it's probably not a link. ;)
-
Another pet peeve: People who click wildly hoping that any underlined text is a hyperlink, and is not just plain old underlined text. But I cleaned it up for the Internet-impaired.
-
Here's my pet peeve of the complaint bonus hours: People who ride the brakes down any decline or hill. I'm not talking going down a mountain, but people around here burn out their brake lights riding the horizontal pedal going down any slight decline. Meanwhile I'm behind them and doing my best not to rear-end them as they erratically and randomly pump the brakes. I swear I'm gonna start doing a little NASCAR rubbin' on some of these people's back bumpers and see if they get the point.

I have always wondered the same thing. Is he stuck paying off the bills the identity thief racked up? His credit cards told him "Fraud? We ain't got no stinking fraud provisions. You pay what's on the account, now." As for the girlfriend - her credit was torched by "defaulting on one old credit card?" Really? And if he ran the credit beforehand, he would have ditched his "dream girl" before getting hitched because of one mark on her credit report? Nice guy. Maybe if he got a real job instead of serving chowder and ice tea and spending the rest of his time jamming with his loser friends they could afford a better place to live.

I hate offering my face up to the razor gods each and every morning. It's a never-ending battle trying to keep the stubble under control, and I'm getting tired of wasting time and money shaving every morning.

Well said. I got nothing to piss and moan about right now. I'll probably tap into my "things that piss me off" list so I can add something to the discussion tomorrow.

That sort of insomnia and messed-up sleep cycle is understandable. My work schedule, while it varies, is pretty stable for the most part, but I have these erratic bouts of insomnia. I think it's more stress than anything else.
-
My sleep cycle is so screwed up from my always-changing work schedule and stress right now that I'd kill to be asleep before 11 and up at a normal time. I'm all over the place - one night I'm wide awake till 4 and then moving around like a frigging zombie the next day, followed by falling asleep on the couch at 7 p.m. and waking up in the middle of the night, then getting to be and not waking up until 11 the next morning. :censored:

If the gas prices weren't so high I'd drive from Cleveland.

That's what I'm here for... Seconded. What? Impossible. Anyone who lived/lives in WNY and has never eaten at MT is barred from all Buffalo sporting events until they cram a Super Mighty down their gullet after a night of drinking. On a serious note, it's great to see you back, millsy...hope all is going well with your recovery and hope to see you around more.

Close the thread. We have a winner.
