  1. Here's the link to Switzer's comments, for anyone interested: LINK
  2. Therein lies the rub....when did he know it? If he knew, who else did? Maybe T-Pegs didn't (I assume he didn't) but if not, did any other major donors know? Like you said...this is gonna get worse - a lot worse - before it gets any better.
  3. Probably your first post with which I have agreed. True.
  4. Agreed, but the thread has pretty much devolved from any potential Sabres connection to this debacle into a discussion of the actual scandal. The only thing that would make me nervous is...how long has the administration, including Paterno, known about this? The more that comes out the more it looks like they've known since 98. If that's the case....who else knew? Assuming Pegula was like us and didn't know a thing until the last ten days...when and what did the AD know - the guy who went out and solicited T=Peg's money? If so, how does Pegula react to that? That is what I would be interested to hear.
  5. Unfortunately when the NBA is in season I get it around 5+ nights a week, between ABC, ESPN, TNT, FSOhio. For the NHL - if we are lucky we get one Blue Jackets game a week plus whatever is on Vs and NHL Network. No arguments on the Ohio thing, though. I'd much rather live in WNY.
  6. One hockey complaint: I don't usually order the Center Ice package because of my work schedule. I don't want to pay when I know I am going to miss a ton of games. That being said - this is 2011 - how can there not be a game on cable every night? OLN/Versus/NBCSports/whatever it is now and the NHL Network should have at least one game on per night, guaranteed.
  7. Work. At my location there are four department heads (three plus me) and one executive director. Due to restructuring and reorganization, we've lost one department head to another location, one will be leaving in a lateral move so she doesn't have to take a demotion to stay with the company, one resigned for another job, and the executive director is being moved to a new location. All this within the last couple weeks. Who does that leave? Me. Already doing the work of two departments in an hourly position where OT is frowned upon, I get to help break in a new executive director and 2-3 new department heads. Awesome.
  8. These rumors, that Paterno knew about his earlier assualts and he forced Sandusky into retirement as a sort of punishment, are the most damning. He can't hide behind "I didn't know exactly what the grad assistant was telling me and it was vague and confusing". If that is true, then not only should Paterno have rightly lost his job, but he should be tossed in jail too. ESPN ran Barry Switzer's statement on the whole mess, and he summed it up perfectly - everyone knew. The way college coaching staffs are set up, they all knew. And if they all knew, then that meant that wives, friends, admins, girlfriends - others outside the program knew. And they all went along and didn't say a thing because they didn't want to screw up the image of college football Camelot. Amen.
  9. Yes, some were. Flipped over a news van with a least one person inside. Showing the level of stupidity: Demonstrators tore down two lamp posts, one falling into a crowd. They also threw rocks and fireworks at the police, who responded with pepper spray. The crowd undulated like an accordion, with the students crowding the police and the officers pushing them back. “We got rowdy, and we got maced,” Jeff Heim, 19, said rubbing his red, teary eyes. “But make no mistake, the board started this riot by firing our coach. They tarnished a legend.” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/11/sports/ncaafootball/penn-state-students-in-clashes-after-joe-paterno-is-ousted.html You stupid, ignorant self-centered idiot. Joe Paterno tarnished Joe Paterno by allowing this predator to be on campus, to have access to children and refusing to call the police. He knew about this was back in 98 when the first incident (again, showering with a boy) came out. All he had to do was the right thing. It should never have come to this - Sandusky should be in prison and everyone would have praised PSU for doing the right thing.
  10. Yep. Cleaning house now is the right move. Up till now it has been a textbook case of "How to Mishandle a Crisis". One of the legal analysts on CNN had a good point - hope Penn State is ready to write some checks to settle the civil cases that will be headed their way. PSU will want to settle out of court so as to avoid more sordid details coming out in court. Side note: PSU students marching in support of Joe Pa should go home and read the Grand Jury report/indictment.
  11. I disagree. Sanchez was the same erratic, inconsistent QB he's always been. Looks great for stretches then follows up with a boneheaded overthrow or fumble. He tossed two picks - one that was incorrectly overturned - and coughed up a fumble. For stretches throughout the first half the Jets were doing everything they could offensively to let the Bills kick the door down and take control of the game. Sanchez's turnovers, dumb penalties, and they were chirping at each other in the huddle and on the sideline. If Chan and co could have gone for the kill and turned a couple turnovers into points, the Jets may have self-destructed, Of all the Bills needs, I still believe that a pass-rushing end or OLB has to be 1 or 1a. They need to find someone who can get around a tackle and make the QBs a little nervous and start getting happy feet. Combine that with the in-your-face rush coming from Dareus and Kyle Williams (when he gets healthy) and that will make the secondary look a lot better.
  12. This might bring a smile to some Bills fans' faces... http://thebiglead.com/index.php/2011/11/06/hey-mark-sanchez-thats-two-punches-for-flinching/
  13. I don't disagree that this was a stinker. What we're saying (I am including james and others) is this was their first all-around stinker - offense, defense and special teams - and it came in Week 8 when we were 5-2. Not that we can afford a stinker, but a) it's a nice wake-up call after the whipping of the Skins, so we can learn and make adjustments b) there are still a lot of divisional games left (not to mention at least four winnable games with the Dolphins twice, Broncos and Titans) and if we can win those and grab one or two of the four versus DAL, NE, NYJ and SD, we'll be in great shape for the playoffs; and c) we should get some guys back from injury soon (especially OL).
  14. This. Bills are 5-3 and have split with the two teams who are thought by many to win our division. This loss hurts but how we respond, particularly when we face the Jets again, is more important.
  15. I thought the call was questionable, especially after the no-call on Burress' pushoff. The PI call that pissed me off was McGee's - never looked for the ball, and didn't need to make contact - Holmes wasn't going to catch it.
  16. Unfortunately they were right. This from the same ref who gave a 63-word explanation of a challenged fumble two weeks ago. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Video-Ed-Hochuli-s-dissertation-on-why-a-fumble?urn=nfl-wp10702 No, he's not. Sanchez does suck. Fitz had a bad day. Hilarious to see Florence punk Sanchez like that late in the game. This. Plus there were a couple questionable calls - pushoff by Buress, the INT that I still don't think that should have been overturned - that went against us. Still, we struggled on both sides today and didn't deserve to win. If they can sweep the Fins and beat the Jets next time they play, we can finish with a 4-2 record in the AFC East. I like our chances if we play like that in-division.
  17. I understand but I think it's worth noting that Dick "it's hard to win in the NFL" Jauron was at the helm then.
  18. http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/article599069.ece "Everybody genuflected to Kent Hull," former Bills General Manager Bill Polian told The News in 2002. "People don't realize what a leader he was on that team. When Kent spoke and took a stand, the debate was over. Everybody shut up and followed Kent." Damn. 50 is way too young. RIP to the cornerstone of those great Bills teams of the 90s.
  19. Agreed. I have to agree with d4rksabre. You're right, he was beyond terrible today, but times Florence singlehandedly kept the Giants in the game, and that was evident on the Giants' final drive. He was called for DPI twice on the Giants final drive - once on 3rd-and-5 before the 2:00 warning. There was also the big running play on the final drive where Florence whiffed on the tackle and I think Bradshaw went for 30 yards (I think that was the play). Those were like daggers in the heart. For the game he was flagged 3 times for Def PI; twice on 3rd down that extended drives; and on both drives he kept alive the Giants cashed in with points. True, only FGs, but still. I like Florence as a nickle back and he's usually solid, unspectacular but that was as bad a performance I've seen from a Bills DB in a long time.
  20. And Drayton Florence was absolutely BRUTAL today. He had what, three PI calls? (One was iffy, I thought.) And I think two extended drives for the Giants.
  21. I don't have a problem with Fitz. He's smart enough to compensate for his arm strength (usually). I think he just tried to to get too cute with those two picks today and tried to drop it in perfectly instead of throwing it out there and letting Stevie go get it.
  22. Good points. No, I'm not "happy" about the two losses, considering we could/should have won both, but if anyone would have come to me preseason and asked if I'd be OK with a 4-2 record with a win over the P*ts going into the bye week I would have replied "oh hell yes." I am pretty freaking happy about where this team is right now. They could use a pass-rushing end (thanks for nothing, Aaron Maybin) and the WR corps needs someone who can stretch the field, but otherwise, they look a lot better than I thought they would.
  23. What a weird day. Full moon hitting my customers and staff hard. Plus last week I found out that I lost out on a position I had applied and interviewed for. According to a friend at the company I was applying they really like me and my experience a lot but went with the other guy because he had a little more direct experience in health care than I do. Kicker was that he had already interviewed, offered, accepted and then declined the position a couple months ago and then begged to be reconsidered, so they did and gave him the job again.
