David Garrard and/or Matt Moore. This.

If Tripucka is OK with it, then that's where I check out of the conversation. His number, his honor, his decision. It's happened before. Not often, but it happens.

Wow. You are one cynical sports fan.

Good post.

No one has forgotten that. But this is sports and is supposed to be a fun diversion from real life, and have some hope and faith. I guess I don't understand how people can't look at the first half of last year, the direction the team is taking in the draft, and then getting the biggest free agent signing in years to come to Buffalo and NOT use us as leverage to get a better deal somewhere else, and have hope. They are improving, they have been purging the roster of dead weight, have drafted pretty well, and have quietly acquired some football players - not guys who sound good on paper or impress in a combine, but are actual football players and fight and compete.
-
Robviously already covered game style angle, so I want to ask this - why single out Hodgson? If you want struggling players or guys who also didn't score in the shootout, then you've got plenty to pick from. Why not put Foligno in over Roy, Pommers, Vanek, Stafford, or Boyes?

WGR unofficially has Williams with a $10M cap hit for this year. No idea how that works but if that's the case, they still have room to maneuver in FA, no problem. http://wgr550.com/Bills-Mario-Williams--contract-breakdown/12570172

I really hope I never become that cynical. You should move to Cleveland and become a Browns fan - you'll fit right in. They could win the Super Bowl by 60 points and fans here would mope and whine about a call going against them or the opponent scoring a late TD in the 4th quarter.

Good post. I mean really. Hat ticks he "miraculously came up with"? Did the other team shoot the puck into their own net and he was the last to touch it, three times/game? Hammer away for the lack of effort, the indifferent attitude, whatever...but don't downplay an NHL'er scoring multiple hat tricks in one year. Yeah! He took a spot away from Roy! Oh wait, Roy shot and didn't score? Oh, well Vanek shoulda shot instea....oh, he missed too? What about Pommers? He definitely would have scored....oh, he did get a chance and missed, too? Boyes has been hot in the SO, so maybe he'll....nope, didn't score either. Oh, injured. Wait - what about Stafford? oh, he got stopped too? Hmmmm....lotta options on this offensive juggernaut of a team....what about Gerbe? Injured you say? But yeah! The 22-year-old SUCKS!!!!

I don't disagree. I liked what I saw out of Staff in 08-09 and thought that last year was him delivering on his potential. But he is too prone to taking nights off, coasting, not working hard enough. And that he is a Lindy favorite drives me nuts.

TKO was one of my favorites. Just a ball of energy, flowed from sideline-to-sideline, always flying to the ball. Another terrific linebacker felled by an Achilles injury.

I live here and am having a hard time figuring out what their plan or vision is - or if Holmgren even has one. This. They were fine until they started dropping like flies. And it looked a lot worse later in the year when Fitz was playing with busted ribs. I think they need to address LT (again) and depth. I'd like to see a true no.2 WR across from Stevie and the O would look pretty damn solid at that point. I love this move for so many reasons, but the hope it brings is the biggest one.

Agree 100% on the FML.

waking up to the dog throwing up at the end of the bed. Ugh.

True on all points. Last year the Bills had 29 sacks as a team for the entire year, averaging less than 2/game. Keep in mind that 10 of those came in ONE GAME against the Redskins, so for the remaining 15 games they totaled 19 sacks. Williams instantly makes that defense better, and as TrueBlue points out, if he signs he instantly enhances the Bills image as a destination for free agents.

How much salary do you reasonably expect Pegula to eat and bury in the AHL and overseas? Stafford was just re-signed. I get that you don't like the deal or the player (and I am leaning that was as well) but he is coming off a 31-goal career year and is one of Lindy's favorites. It wasn't likely that he would get moved or buried in the AHL. Boyes' biggest value to the team is the expiring contract, and they still couldn't get anyone to take him off their hands.
-
He's a pass-rushing specialist in his prime who would be coming to a team with a pretty damn good interior line and an absolutely awful pass rush. I think he would help BIG TIME.
-
No argument here about having them both in the lineup over Boyes or Stafford. But you know they weren't going to play both rookies at the same time when they have so much cap space tied up in Staff and Boyes. Exactly. Frankly, anything short of picking up a bona fide superstar should have tempered expectations. I look at it like this - anything we would have gotten from Kass would have been a bonus, so I am looking at Hodgson the same way.
-
Did you really mean to reply to yourself, or was that off my post?
-
Right now the best part about that trade is that it removed a player who was blocking Foligno from getting his shot in the NHL.
-
Sure they did.

I'm glad you're not an NHL coach.

Seems to be some differing opinions floating around Twitter regarding Mario's status. PFT may have read more into LaCafora's tweet about no signing tonight, doesn't necessarily mean he left Buffalo yet. Alex Marvez (Fox Sports) claims Bills have things scheduled for Williams for tomorrow, and that a source tells him that Williams has no other firm visits scheduled, but speculation out there that he may still take visit to JAX. Buckle up - might get a little bumpy on this ride.
-
Williams leaves without a deal, has one more visit scheduled, per LaCanfora. That's not good. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/13/report-mario-williams-leaving-buffalo-without-signing-will-visit-others/ Meachem has already signed with San Diego, per the News. Chargers wasted little time replacing Vincent Jackson - probably blew away Meach with the deal. http://blogs.buffalonews.com/billboard/2012/03/meachem-signs-with-chargers.html

Letang is french for "The Tang" so he's got that going for him...
