Nothing wrong with this model. Keeps the AHL players playing. Hoping for a chance of fans is looking like a pipe dream.

If the NHL gets creative and does their bubble divisions and has the AHL affiliates play right before their NHL clubs do as a televised doubleheader, that might draw some interest. It's not ticket sales and concessions for the AHL clubs, but it's advertising and minimal overhead

Except like @inkman said, there likely won’t be any AHL season without fans to sell undercooked soft pretzels to. Maybe the NHL can scrape by without fans, but I highly doubt that’s the case for the AHL.

So if the NHL starts in January, what do they do for injury callups for the first month? Just ring up some dude who has been laying on his couch in Moose Jaw since March?

Eh. I think his strategy was to get to where the Sabres were this off season, with cap room to make moves he wanted. Which have now landed us a bunch of players. And KA gets the credit for Botts patience.

A guy I work with told me this was a hoax. Then he told me it would be gone by Easter. Then he said the heat of the summer would kill it. Now he’s saying there will a be a vaccine around next week and not to worry.

I don’t buy into this narrative. The Eulers offer sheeted Vanek. The Sabres didn’t retaliate. The ongoing hypothesis is that there is some sort of “honor code” amongst Gms to not do it to each other. Which would make more sense in an era where Gms kept their positions for 10-20 years and had to continually try and deal with each other. What’s the shelf life of a GM today? 2-4 years? Who cares. Use the tool to create some longevity for yourself as a GM, and weaken that of the other GM that couldn’t manage their cap properly or sign their players promptly.

A few years back, I went to Nassau for a concert, and stayed at the adjacent Marriott. The Sabres were staying there the same night ahead of a game against the Isles the following night. It was Gooses bday, and half the team was partying in the hotel bar. I got to meet and talk and drink with a lot of them, and not once did I mention I was from WNY or a major Sabres fan. We just hung out and had regular conversations, and most of them were just regular, normal dudes. Enroth, in particular, was the most down to Earth and easiest to talk to out of all the players there. We ended up making plans to have breakfast together in the morning to talk more. Super nice dude. Derek Roy ended up sitting with us, and was the polar opposite.

I’ll never understand why GM’s are adverse to offer sheeting other teams players. The rule is there, use it. Especially against division rivals. Can you imagine if Belicheat had this option in his arsenal?
