I bet it would probably go the same way Italy and Spain asking for help from rest of EU two weeks ago with no one know how bad it will get in their own country. A governor sending out help to other states but causing his own state to lack funds or manpower to battle this is committing political suicide.

I think great leadership sometimes also is taking unpopular decisions and being able to see far ahead , leaving these decisions in the hands of politicians is the worst and won't help resolve this anytime soon. Pretty sure our political leaders even now still go in against scientists on some matters.

I think over here they are finally seeing that having most of your manufacturing abroad makes you week in times like these. USA might use the defense act to keep all ventilators in the country , all though made by European companies we can't access them. Same goes for China owning 80 % of pharmaceutical resources in the world. As for my job its really getting hectic, working cargo side of an airport, passenger planes come in empty to deliver and pick up cargo, extra cargo planes coming in. A lot of Medical masks, getting phone calls non stop for hospitals all over Europe. Hope this ends soon so I can do my job normally again instead investing so much time in phone calls and emails.

The only thing my country did right is Isolate the elderly really fast, still 50% of people in hospital are under the age 50 at the moment. Can you Imagine like in Italy have to take old people of the respirators to save the young ones. Everyone severely sick over 60, they don't even bother anymore. They just hope they pull out of it but all treatment goes to young people with better survival chances.

not really true, both SARS and MERS are both in the Corona family and test kits based on those are being used in Asia. Also the reason why they believe Chloroquine that was used against malaria in the day will help against Covid-19. Was already found to be useful against SARS in a lab here in Belgium in 2004. The Chinese got informed about that and started using it though was never tested outside of a lab.

It most likely been going around much longer, thing is that countries like South-Korea that had to deal with SARS have a good supply of test kits. Something the West is severely lacking in.
