Just for one more year. Why a team he might not sign with long term would give us a big return is beyond me. Sure, if he wants to be traded to a certain team that he could negotiate with makes some sense.
-
So Samson would basically have a veto over the trade, right? That complicates things. Limits our options for sure Oh ha That’s kind of assuming a lot of things. Sam could just say no and wait until he is a free agent. Sure, perhaps it all lines up, and he wants to go to a certain place, and they want him now. Could happen.

It very much complicates any trade possibility. Sure, not impossible, but a lot less likely

What, they will give us a big return on the hopes of signing him? I suppose it could happen...

From Wikipedia: The Fermi paradox, named after Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi, is the apparent contradiction between the lack of evidence for extraterrestrial civilizations and various high estimates for their probability (such as some optimistic estimates for the Drake equation).[1][2] The following are some of the facts that together serve to highlight the apparent contradiction: There are billions of stars in the Milky Way similar to the Sun.[3][4] With high probability, some of these stars have Earth-like planets.[5] Many of these stars, and hence their planets, are much older than the Sun.[6][7] If the Earth is typical, some may have developed intelligent life long ago. Some of these civilizations may have developed interstellar travel, a step humans are investigating now. Even at the slow pace of currently envisioned interstellar travel, the Milky Way galaxy could be completely traversed in a few million years.[8] And since many of the stars similar to the Sun are billions of years older, the Earth should have already been visited by extraterrestrial civilizations, or at least their probes.[9] However, there is no convincing evidence that this has happened.[8] There have been many attempts to explain the Fermi paradox,[10][11] primarily suggesting that intelligent extraterrestrial beings are extremely rare, that the lifetime of such civilizations is short, or that they exist but (for various reasons) we see no evidence. Although he was not the first to consider this question, Fermi's name is associated with the paradox because of a casual conversation in the summer of 1950 with fellow physicists Edward Teller, Herbert York and Emil Konopinski. While walking to lunch, the men discussed recent UFO reports and the possibility of faster-than-light travel. The conversation moved on to other topics, until during lunch Fermi allegedly said suddenly, "But where is everybody?" (although the exact quote is uncertain).[12][13]

We have only been "civilized" in any form at all for 40,000 years or so. The universe is billions of years old. Stars and their solar systems have come and gone billions of years before ours formed. In all those years we are the only civilization to develop? Doubt it. We are probably being observed, just for craps and giggles by other life forms. We literally come from stars. Our bodies are made up of star stuff. The calcium, Oxygen, iron, nitrogen and everything else came from exploding stars. We are the cosmos! BTW, this week, if you look in the western sky at sunset you can see both Mercury and Venus in the sky. Mercury is the first "star" out and it is higher than Venus and you can see that Mercury is closer to us now. Venus is on other side of sun now. https://earthsky.org/tonight

Jack will be here, he's ours. Samson is basically un-tradable with just a year left on contract.

Great thread! I’m not sure who will be better, but it’s a fun discussion!

Oh ya, a healthy Jack, NHL goaltending, the young guys continue to improve, maybe add some outside talent and this could be a playoff team. Goaltending is by far the most important position and we had the worst last year. Even without a healthy Eichel Ullmark keep us close in games and won many. Add to that we get out of jail in this division we played in all year and of course we will be much, much improved. We finished in last place because at the most important position we had the worst the NHL could offer. No where in the above did I say we win the cup with just better goaltending.
-
So, if that is true, and we improve the goaltending for next seasons, we would be a playoff team, IMO.

They better keep Donny! https://buffalonews.com/sports/sabres/how-don-granatos-career-path-might-fit-what-the-sabres-need-in-a-coach/article_74ceb8b4-b42b-11eb-acc1-133fb89aafa2.html#tracking-source=home-top-story-1

Our sixth string goalie who came in and played really well, except when he didn’t. Won two straight games against the Islanders, got shelled by Pittsburgh and then played pretty good against them again in a losing effort. Jack even gave him a shout out in his press conference. I don’t think he is the answer, but maybe gets a look next year.
