  16. BOSTON - The Bruins will kick off 2022 by resuming their season with a New Year's Day matinee against the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden. It will mark Boston's first game since Dec. 16 after the resurgence of COVID-19 led to 11 Bruins heading into protocol and forced the NHL to extend the traditional holiday break. But when the Black & Gold, who had their last six games postponed, take the ice on Saturday afternoon, they will be back at full strength - barring no further COVID issues, of course - with Charlie Coyle, the final Bruins player in protocol, returning to practice on Friday afternoon. "For myself, personally, I'm pumped. For the next little while here, I don't have to test or anything like that," said Brandon Carlo, who cleared protocol on Wednesday after dealing with what he described as a mostly asymptomatic experience with COVID-19. "It's nice for the guys that got it to just move forward and focus on the hockey season because that's what we wanted to do all along. I feel like the good chunk of us got it. We'll see if we have another flare up, but I definitely think…with all the guys here who got it, [we can] play a fair game and go out there and compete."
