  10. On Lafferty: “He’s doing OK, so it could be one those shorter things,” Ruff said following Monday’s practice in KeyBank Center. Meanwhile, other injured Sabres are progressing. Ruff said defenseman Mattias Samuelsson, who has missed the last eight games with a lower-body injury, started skating again Friday. “Don’t have a timeline, but the fact that he’s back on the ice, he continues to show some progress,” Ruff said. Ruff said winger Jordan Greenway, who has missed the last seven games with a mid-body injury, skated Monday morning. “We’ll just see how he’s feeling after he gets a couple of the skill skates, or skates that initially get you going to see when or if we can get him back in practice,” he said. Greenway recently underwent a procedure that wasn’t surgery. Ruff said they don’t know if it helped him. “That’s why he’s back on the ice, just to see whether he feels better or something further will have to be dealt with,” he said. Entering Tuesday’s game against old friend Casey Mittelstadt and the Colorado Avalanche, rookie Tyson Kozak is the Sabres’ only extra forward. He took reps Monday on the fourth line. Kozak, who was recalled following Friday’s game, sat out Saturday’s 3-0 road loss to the New York Islanders. Ruff said the fourth trio of center Peyton Krebs, Beck Malenstyn and Nicolas Aube-Kubel played well in Saturday’s loss. Kozak, 21, likely must wait to make his NHL debut. “They were in on three or four opportunities,” Ruff said of the line. “I thought there puck play was good inside the game, and I think that’s where he fits on our team. So we’ll go through the first game, we’ll evaluate and see where he’s at. “I know what he brings, the energy, and I think he’s the type of guy that helps lifts other player with just his infectious work ethic. So there’s always a chance, but we’ll evaluate that from game to game. ”https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/sabres-sam-lafferty-sidelined-week-to-week-mattias-samuelsson-jordan-greenway-progressing-from-injuries/

  13. https://pickinsplinters.com/2024/11/30/kozaks-recall-to-sabres-shows-how-valued-he-is/ By KEVIN OKLOBZIJA Tyson Kozak doesn’t have the dash and flash of the top prospects in the Buffalo Sabres organization. Nor does he have the resume that says he’ll someday be an NHL player. He was, after all, a seventh-round draft pick, chosen after 192 others had heard their names called. But what he does have is an undeniable desire to succeed, which is why he joined the Sabres on Friday night for their trip to Long Island. The recall, prompted by an injury to Sam Lafferty, is the first for the third-year forward. “He’s a winner,” Rochester Americans coach Michael Leone said. “He’s going to play for a long time and he’s going to help somebody win.” Kozak learned of the promotion shortly before warmups and was scratched from the Amerks lineup for the game against the Syracuse Crunch. “It was pretty emotional for him,” Leone said. “This is a real example of how valued he is.” Kozak has scored 5 goals and 1 assist in 14 games this season. He also has 24 penalty minutes. His game is all about work ethic and tenacity. “To see a player that doesn’t even get on the power play – talk about doing it right,” Leone said. “He’s been unbelievable. It’s a really good message for the group: It’s a team sport. It’s not about points, it’s not about individual accolades, it’s about playing team hockey and winning, and Tyson Kozak’s a winner.” His teammates were elated. “Selfishly we’d love to have him here but you saw the big Buffalo (equipment) bag and gear starting to get packed and people couldn’t have been more excited for him,” defenseman Jack Rathbone said. Said winger Isak Rosen: “He’s one of my closest friends here and it’s super-fun to see him go up. He really earned it.”
