I don't think anybody making this show ever skated the pond. At least stuff happened! Why isn't there any sex in this show any more?

October: What to expect when you're expecting HOCKEY
qwksndmonster replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Ville Leino is going to score the first goal of the season, and then never again. -
LOL

Why not both? Zemgus scored less because he got less playing time, and also because the coach was trying to coach with 17 whiteboards. I think Zemgus is a guy that plays with his instincts, and Bylsma was crushing his hockey soul.

Logan Lucky is lots of fun. The cast is great and I love seeing rural areas portrayed well in movies. -

James McAvoy is so freakin' cool. Anya-Taylor Joy is a... joy. I saw Lady Macbeth earlier this week. Another great 2017 indie film. It does a great job depicting an intersection of different kinds of opression/privalege. Florence Pugh is crazy good. Hope to see her in a lot more work. -
I feel like he's already eclipsed batman by not being a weirdo who dresses up in his pjs to fight crime because he's not over something that happened decades ago.

That's so cool, woody. Did you also moonlight as a secret agent?

Hahaha if you can't make the points yourself, find some positive reviews to back your emotions up. It's okay to admit that you don't know about film. Even shows with an infinite budget mess up every now and again.

Gimmicks? If you're not interested in film, that's fine. But don't act like the building blocks of cinema are "gimmicks."

I mean, I guess those moments are fun. Those are mostly moments where the show tells us that people have fun and are real people rather than showing us. Tormund and Brienne aren't a romance, it's Tormund mentioning how he has a thing for her. They spent 3 episodes nudging the audience and baiting us with Jon/Dany stuff. There aren't that many episodes left, cut to the ###### already. Why didn't a single one of either of their advisers mention the possibility of a marriage alliance? They're both adults, why didn't they ###### anyways? What is the point of putting stuff off when we are running out of time rapidly. The only actual romance that has gotten any screen time this season is Missandei and Grey Worm, who are both emotionally in the same exact place they were the last time they had a scene like that. As for GoT excelling at people talking in rooms... Yeah I don't think I could disagree harder. It's certainly what the show spends the most time on. These scenes are incredibly easy to break down because they are often shot with the least amount of set-ups possible (i.e. to save the most money and time). The scenes are devoid of the language of cinema, and are usually the camera just pointed at the actors. The blocking is especially bad. Characters rarely move around the frame and there is very little direction when they do. Here's an example of the kind of information that can be shared with the audience through the language of cinema. The show has a lot of information to transmit to the audience, but they do it in the most boring way: People. Talking. In. Rooms.

I mean we've talked about this before. It's part familial obligation, part love for the books. And I have been trying to enjoy it for what it is, but that hasn't really worked out either. I just still feel comfortable posting whatever I feel on the board. Obviously I don't really do much analysis on here. I used to get into why what's bothering me so much is bothering me. It's mostly that the show takes itself so damn seriously and won't just have fun. Why isn't there any romance? Why do they focus so much time and energy on people talking in rooms, the thing they are the worst at? I just kinda still drop by here for the same reason I vomit lotsa words into the tv/movie thread, to share my emotional state about something. I'll stop if it's bothering you that much. /fiLmdoucheqwk although maybe if it bothers you so much it's because deep down you know i'm rriiiiiiggghhhht

This episode re-broke me. I can't even try to enjoy GoT as garbage TV. It's not a cheeseburger, it's just bad. Bad tasting and bad for you. The writing is so bad. The lighting is so bad. The cinematography is so bad. So yeah. That's where I am.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch

I think Marvel has done a lot of great work with the MCU, the Cap movies especially. The character arcs of Cap/Iron Man are really interesting and super detailed. Tony Stark is back in a comfortable situation, similar to the beginning of Iron Man one. He's insulated himself from the guilt and responsibility of being an avenger. His part in spiderman homecoming is great, and continues his arc. But where I start having problems with the MCU is how completely disconnected the setting and tones are of different movies. Thor, Guardians, Dr Strange, Ant Man, etc. It's good that they set out to try a lot of different things, but I think the way they try to connect everything is misguided. A lot of the connections are mostly superficial. Every Marvel movie has to be over 2 hours and they all feel so bloated to me. If your movie is longer than 90 minutes there better be a damn good reason. A lot of that extra time is spent on set-up for future stuff. I think this restricts the ability of MCU movies to capitalize on being self-contained stories. I think Marvel is doing a good job, but the action they film is just really not for me. And long movies are not for me (BUT I FREAKIN' GO SEE THEM TWICE ANYWAYS). The way The Conjuring Universe utilizes the interconnectedness feels a lot more organic. And it creates this steven king universe-esque oppressive feeling that these evil occurances have happened/are happening/will continue to happen in the small isolated parts of the world. And we will never hear about it. Because this is just the world. -
Jack Eichel Contract Extension: Talks Occuring

Man, Jack terrorizes bowmeeeeester on that play. Unfair. -
I'm not opposed to having kids, but I get the sense that it's never going to be the right time for me. It's hard enough to get myself to act on my inspirations and put words on the page now, I can't even imagine trying to be an artist and taking care of a kid(s). I feel like I've always been struggling to really control my life, and now I finally feel like I'm gaining more agency. I don't feel like I have the mental capabilities to be a father and an artist. It makes me sad that there's such societal pressure on young people to get married have kids. And more often than not it's the women who are shackled with the real responsibility.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
qwksndmonster replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
It's not just too much CGI, it's also too much wonky editing to cover for actors not being able to fight. You see it in Marvel movies and most GoT fight scenes. Cutting around the impacts and hatcheting something together that sort of resembles fighting. Not in Atomic Blonde. They rarely cut before getting two (sometimes more) different framings in a shot. They can do this because Charlize Theron is a badass, and it becomes a meaningful abstraction of violence rather than bashing for bashings sake. I liked the score, but I thought the implementation of it was inconsistent. It had the same problem baby driver did in parts, where the score was wall-to-wall and the lack of silence diminished the music. I didn't like that the colors are washed out, but at least it was a decision that informed the setting. Also the setting was awesome, James MacAvoy is awesome, and the framing device was weird. Also James MacAvoy's giant coats are awesome. -------------------- Annabelle Creation is reeeaaally good. James Wan is so much better than Marvel at the whole interconnected universe thing. -
You play hockey without a cup? That's terrifying!
