We kinda have enough of this type of player...good potential but who really knows if he'll be a NHL'er? heck casey Nelson sure looked good and he got buried in Rochester (I hope under Howie he excels). Any defencemen we mau add at this point should be a sure bet (like Shattenkirk). This guy won't come here to get put down in Rochester for the rest of his career...Leafs or Chicago will probably sign him though

Chad Johnson Signs 1 Year 2.5M Deal with Sabres
Sabre fan replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
There is only one reason why we'd want Johnson back and that is if we are trying to trade lehner, which just may happen. I really can't see Johnson and lehner again...we could sign Ryan again I guess seeing how everyone wants Vanek back it seems...is Danny B retired for sure? -
Kulikov...he is miles better the he showed last year...of course it won't be with the Sabres unfortunately
-
everyone was quick to dump on EXGMTM but truth is he was doing fine. The OReilly trade was the Crime Of The Century, and most other moves were good too. Kulikov was is big bust, but truth be told he (Kulikov) was/is far better then he showed and it was a fluke injury that ruined his season. If Kulikov had played anywhere near his potential and EXGMTM had not hired Blysma (or got a new coach) things would have been much better

this thread was like 96 hours ago so...I still think NO. Gotta wonder if they'll make a trade at all this summer. I have a feeling there is no great offers for Kane and that in itself presents a major problem because we simply cannot afford to give him away but we also cannot afford to lose him next summer to free agency
-
I actually thought Nelson looked pretty good when we signed him a few years back...guess he is not on the radar now...he sure can skate
-
makes one wonder how the heck GM Sakic and whoever keep their jobs...worse trade possibly ever
-
Grigorenko and Yakupov both cut free...crazy to think EXGMTM stole O'Reilly and McGinn who I loved for Grigorenko and another big bust, d-man Zadorov and Compher who all may never really amount to anything. Still cannot figure out why people were so quick to jump on EXGMTM when this trade alone should make him a folk-hero around here.

Apparently we gave qualifying offers to: Forwards Marcus Foligno, Zemgus Girgensons, Johan Larsson, Evan Rodrigues; defenseman Nathan Beaulieu; goaltender Robin Lehner. Meanwhile, we did not bother with: Justin Kea, Brady Austin, Jean Dupuy I think Brady Austin will go somewhere and turn into a pretty good defenseman. Kea and Dupuy did not seem to fit in anywhere. Gotta says this sucks because Austin was born and raised in Bobcaygeon which is like 25 minutes from where I live and he went to the same high schools my sons and they remember seeing him around. Kea was born in Woodville, another small town maybe 20 minutes away (in a different direction). Was hoping maybe both would somehow stick with he big team but again this shows that being drafted does not mean much of anything. Both were higher picks. .

gotta agree..I will take Bonino though in a heartbeat

Interesting predictions from this article...we sign both Nick Bonino and karl Alzner... http://thehockeywriters.com/top-25-free-agents-predictions/

Yeah, ever notice how teams run down a player and bench them and call them out in public then all of a sudden want the moon and the stars for them come trade talks? JBot's got the right idea..talk all loving of Sam to raise his value. Very sneaky there Jay...

Lindy will be head coach by December...McDavid...14 million??? holy crap. What does Leon get then? 7 or 8 million? And TJ gets like 8 years? That is absurd. Jack must be thinking if he plays his cards right and puts up big number this year the sky's the limit...
-
exactly...even 1st and 2nd round picks are not a sure thing, but certainly after 3 the odds are not very good of anybody making it to the big show

Some interesting food for thought regarding draft picks...TSN did the following What I did was pull out every single draft pick from 2000-2009 (a 10-year span) based on the round they were selected, and binned the players into two groups: players who managed to log at least 50 career games at the NHL level (a reasonable way to identify players who, at worst, became replacement level NHL talent), and players who managed to log 0-49 NHL games at the NHL level (our way to identify a ‘failed’ draft pick). How does the data shake out by round? So, this is reasonably what we would expect. 80% of first-round picks, 44% of second-round picks, and 30% of third-round picks will become low-level (or better) NHL players. Scott Cullen has done great work looking at specific pick values. \ The whole story...http://www.tsn.ca/playing-the-percentages-in-the-nhl-draft-1.206144

Expansion draft and league-wide wheeling and dealing
Sabre fan replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Agreed...strange trading Hamonic for the future when they have Johnny T. aging and now Eberle. Also., I sure as hell hope it isn't the sabres interested in Phaneuf at his crazy contract. Also I just got through checking out the St Louis trade giving up Jeri Lehtera, who isn't too bad a center, along with first round picks this year and next for Braeden Schenn. Does that not seem like a lot for Schenn? I think both Montreal's and Galchenyuck's asking price will be too high as well still amazed the damn Leafs got lucky somehow and got Timothy Liljegren at 17. He'll be a stud for them for sure. Also Tampa got a good one in Foote...he'll fit right in playing alongside Hedman. Last but not least, really? At No. 8, the Buffalo Sabres select Casey Mittelstadt, who made headlines when he failed to do a pull-up at the combine. Yikes, we already got Nylander who looks soft and smallish and weak, and now we got...Casey!!! -
Well there are certainly some interesting names that will be available through UFA come July 01,2017. Not sure if we have any interest in any, though of course Shattenkirk keeps being mentioned. here is a complete list...any thoughts or ideas of who we may pursue?,... https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/free-agents I admit it...Bryan Campbell intriques me

Expansion draft and league-wide wheeling and dealing
Sabre fan replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
once the Rangers get off to another lousy start they'll fire Alain Vigneault and announce Lindy as their new head coach and does anybody think Harmonic is worth what Calgary gave? -
Keep hearing and reading where the sabres are very interested in kevin Shattenkirk. Obviously his asking price will be off the charts, and I have no idea how we can (could) sign him with Moulson, Bogo, Gorges and Ennis all on the books making huge money between them. No question he woul dbe a key acquistion but the cost seems to be too high for us. What do you think?

do you not get Sportsnet there? They have it on up here in Canada at 10PM

Probably by far he steal of the draft...how the heck did the Leafs manage to get this guy? He is going to be very good on that team...
