Sabres are ruining Murray's plan---what does he do??
Crusader1969 replied to matter2003's topic in The Aud Club
that statement is soooooooo wrong. There are at least 5 other guys in this years draft that are looking to be 1st line players or top pair D. Its a terrific draft and goes much deeper than McDavid and Eichel. Dont, however, fall out of the bottom 7 (perferably not bottom 4). That being said I am still Pro Tank and have not given up hope for them to fall back into McEichel contenders. I'll re-evaluate my Tank position in another 10 games or so. Dont forget the #1 point leader in the OHL (ok tied with Strome) and #4 on your draft card- Mitch Marner. -
im all about Marner if we drop out of top 3 . think he goes 4 or 5
-
ibelieve thethou odds of winning a cup increase substancially with either mcdavid or eichel. thats why i am pro tank. though i can live with an improved team led by Z, Risto and girgenson as long as they dont move out of bottom 5
-
Changed my mind after watching Marner once again - definitely #4 ahead of Strome (with or without Grigerenko in the pipeline). Over last 23 games he is scoring at a 2.39 PPG clip - McDavid at 2.83 before he was hurt. His skating and vision is exceptional - Patrick Kane 2.0 - book it. And yes not scoring at Kane's clip in his draft year (2.50) but dont forget he wont be 18 till May while Kane was 18 for most of his draft season. I had a conversation with a scout and he said he is rated higher than anyone in the 2014 draft. It may get to the point where Marner isn't thought of as a consolation prize for those not winning the McEichel derby.

This is not about having "fun" its about building a cup contender. I want to my to win because they dominate puck possession, out-shooting the opposition not relying on incredible goaltending and 1 forward line. The BEST way to become this type of team is by obtaining more talent and the BEST way to get high-end talend - TOP of the Draft. Winning like they have been is detrimental to the long term success of the team, in my opinion.
-
its the same team with lights-out goaltending. Outshot 45-19 and win??? Winning under this scenario is not possible long term - unless you have Hasek in net. It makes me sick seeing this team win like they did last night.
-
Thats why I am sending Zadorov to the WJC and trading Enroth ASAP if I am Murray.
-
Depends on where the Sabres end up but honestly this team will be in the race for the bottom all season I just can't see them drafting above #4 - scoring 1 or 2 a game and relying on goaltending only works for so long if you don't have Hasek in net. Great Points - Hanifin, Werenski, Provorov and Kylington could all go in top 10.

At the beginning of the month I took 9 sources and took the average draft rankings of all of them and came up with this between 10-30 20 Harkins, Jansen 30.44 21 Boeser, Brock 31.44 22 Roy, Nicolas 34.33 23 Provorov, Ivan 35.11 24 Greenway, Jordan 37 25 Zboril, Jakub 40.88 26 Novak, Thomas 41.33 27 Bittner, Paul 44.22 28 Korostelev, Nikita 50.88 29 Spencer, Matthew 52 30 Brisebois, Guillaume 63.33 At the beginning of the month I took 9 sources and ranked prospects by the average and came up with this between 10-30 At this point, I would say no way Ivan Provorov is around once we hit pick 20. Greenway and Bittner (both 6'4 wingers with skill / physical presence) would probably be the most intriquing to me. There was a good write-up on Korostelev last night and he compares to Ovechkin when it comes to shot and physical play but doesn't have the explosiveness - of course not many do - plus he seems to be a bit inconsistent with his physical play. At the end of the day (like you said) I try to move up by trading both picks.
-
If we didn't have Grigerenko I'd probably want Strome too but I think the Sabres could use more speed down the wings and yes he may be similar to Ennis in stature but compares much closer to Kane as a player and would anyone complain if they had both Kane and Ennis on the team? There is still plenty of size coming with Fashing, Baptiste, Bailey, Armia on the wings with Grigerenko in the middle.

GDT: Kings at Sabres, 12/9/14, 7:30 pm, NBCSN

Great win? I know I am a full on Tank supporter but I've never watched such boring hockey. Wouldn't you rather see a 6-4 loss than what we had to sit through last night? I'm still sleepy today after 1 pot of coffee.. -

If Sabres fall to 4th (God I hope this doesnt happen) I am all over Marner in that slot. I've compared him before to Patrick Kane - so similar in my humble opinion.

Craigs List December edition - http://www.tsn.ca/craig-s-list-december-ranking-mcdavid-and-eichel-on-even-terms-1.154887 First guy to put Eichel and McDavid as joint #1's. Lowest I've seen Zacha by a long shot.

No link but check them out on Twitter - NA Central Scouting. Crouse did score 6 goals in 5 games for Canada at the Ivan Hlinka this past summer. Just found out today Austin Matthews, whom some believe is better than Eichel, missed the 2015 draft by 2 days! I can't put into words how much less stress I would feel if Eichel, McDavid and Matthews were all there this year for the Sabres.

NA Scouting Services last night released rankings where the top 3 is broken (first I've seen so far). A bit of a surprise that it is Crouse, Lawson who moved into the #3 slot - though he was named to the Team Canada camp.

I agree that they Should move both the Blues and Islanders Picks to move up the draft board into the top 10 and get a high end scorer. Assuming both make the playoffs we can pray that they both lose out in round 1 and have two picks in the mid to late teens. If you take Hanifin, I would also try to figure out how to get Larkin out of Detroit (or another high end prospect winger a year or two into their pro careers) in a package deal that would include Myers.
