If the Islanders lose out in Round 1 - this is the guy I would love to see on the Sabres. i've seen him ranked lower due to his tough season - injuries, suspensions and not putting up the offensive numbers some thought he would. My guess would be he is gone by the time the Sabres are on the board with their 2nd pick (assuming they don't trade it) but you never know. Vande Sompel from Oshawa maybe Dunn from Niagara with a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Jeremy Roy out of the Q would be another that would be a good skating Dman. I am sure someone is going to look at the offensive upside and skating ability of Kylington and take a flyer on him at some point in the 1st round.

Please God let this be the last Arizona game I have to endure this season. I can't imagine being home on Saturday - having to watch the Ducks game and cheering for the Yotes. Actually if the results go 0-3 against the Sabres over the next few days - I'll just go ahead and order my Hanifin jersey prior to the last Arizona game. -
Lets not get greedy here - lock up 1 before we consider 2.

He started in the SHL (top league) got loaned to a team in the 2nd division and then demoted again to the Junior team. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=142238

he is dropping because he has a terrible hockey IQ and is consistentley poor in his own end from what I've been hearing about him all season. I've been down on him for months and I may not take him with the 31st pick if he were on the board - there will be better options. available.

The pessimistic me would say they won't need to draft Provorov when they already have Hanifin.
-
Absolutely they can as this team will eventually have amazing depth and whomever they draft at 3 is going to be a high end top 6 player. I think the biggest difference will be next year because without McDavid or Eichel the team will be near the top of the draft in 2016 as well. No matter how this plays out over the next few days - the Sabres will be playoff / cup contenders by 2017.
-
Changed my mind. Hanifin will still be in college next year and I forgot about Gorges Kane Girgensons Ennis Moulson Grigerenko Free Agent Foligno Reinhart Gionta Deslaurier Larsson McCormack Risto Bogosian Gorges Pysyk (depending on health) Weber Free Agent *Zadorov to the Amerks for the year. Yes, Zemgus can play wing. IF the Sabres land McEichel then I would see him as a top 6 Center until Reinhart is ready. Then he moves to wing and stays in Top 6.

Thanks, good Stuff. Im still hoping that I don't have to worry about Hanifin v Strome v Marner but as a long time fan of Buffalo sports I know its not over till its over!

close but not yet! Its Not OVER Till its OVER! plus i dont see Reinhart on RW - he is a Center through and through. Girgensons is more likely to move to wing in my opinion.

If a miracle happens tonight with the Sabres losing and Yotes winning I may actually cheer for the Sabres to beat the Islanders tomorrow. Thought about for another second and no won't cheer for Sabres till they clinch last.

who got stuck with the defeceman last year? and where are they now? There is no way that any team is ever going to say they got stuck with Hanifin.

Hello Mitch?

Just my gut feeling, guess maybe I`m not sold on Strome he is a talented player who needs work on his skating. I`d prefer a talented player who is an exceptional skater - see Hanifin or Marner.

I would say yes. Eichel is a number one center through and through -Can`t say that about Strome. Plus Strome isn`t even playing in the NHL next year nor do I think the Sabres take him at number 3.

I really haven`t seen enough of Hanifin to say one way or the other. Im not against drafting D high - wasnt opposed to Ekblad last year. If they do draft Hanifin it does open the door to trade one of the other top D prospects for a forward. Its also insurance in case Pysyk can`t make a full recovery which would not only be devastating for him but also the organization. At the end of the day the Sabres are going to get one hell of a player even if they end up drafting 3rd. Though, I will always have a tough time imagining what could have been with Eichel as your top centre and Reinhart 2nd Line for the next 12 - 15 years.
-
Probably about the same as if they draft McEichel. Certainly not next year in either case - possible in 2 years with or without him. If they don`t get McEichel I will predict another bottom 5-7 finish next year (70ish points). With McEichel they finish around 10-12th worst (high 70 possibly low 80s). 2016-17 with McEichel they finish over 90 points - ill say 50% chance they get 90 points without him. In 3 years (2017-18) they finish above 90 and make the play-offs with or without McEichel.

are you talking the 45 years of mediocre hockey we`ve had to endure? Would love to hear your alternative course of action to get this team over the 90 points barrier.

Matthews is one of 3 players who could potentially go first overall in the 2016 draft to be held in Buffalo http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=38406 Puljujarvi really turned heads in the WJC this past January. Of course luck will have to be on the Sabres side as the draft lottery is changing formats.

he is excellent on the backcheck and skates circles around Strome. Seems to me that Strome kinda resembles Grigs in a lot of aspects. Its not like Marner is 5'8 as he is 5'11 still only 17 and compares favorably to Patrick Kane. Skill outweighs size to me in this one. http://ontariohockeyleague.com/video/index/id/bf91b4fd75ca5e66f58bdd82afbe4b9f

They can't and they won't. This was the only way to rid themselves of the rotten core. No matter if you call it a Tank or call it a Rebuild it was the only path for the Sabres to follow.

I see Strome as a really good #2 Centre - kinda like he is in Erie. Dont forget his production fell off while McDavid was hurt and at the WJC unlike Marner who continued to rip it up while Domi was away from the team. So I will still contend that the highest skill guy available after McDavid / Eichel is Marner and he should be the one the Sabres target. I could also be talked into Hanifin. This would open the possibility of trading Zadorov or McCabe in a package for another forward. Just to back up my point. McDavid missed 20 games and Strome put up 29 points in those games - 1.45PPG Nothing to sneeze at but in comparison. Domi missed 9 games and Marner scores 25 points - 2.77PPG. I

Maybe one day I will understand why Crouse is ranked ahead of Marner? this coming after Marner puts up 6 points and is dominating his play-off series (7G 5A in 3 games). Again I would say the people ranking Marner below Strome & Crouse probably are the same ones that ranked Patrick Kane below Kyle Turris in their draft year. IF the Sabres draft 3rd I think its going to be a difficult decision between Hanifin and Marner.
