Sorry if this was posted but I don't recall seeing it. Mock Draft on NHL.Com http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=764205 As for the Sabres - give me the highest skilled forward best skating forward you can find - Konecny, Svechnikov, Bracco or Sprong.
-
maybe not bottom 5 but 6th, 7th or 8th last would be my prediction. Even to finish 6th last they would need to improve by 24 points over this past years team. If the team who finishes last next year wins the lottery then the Sabres should have close to a 10% chance of getting pick #2.

TSN Preview of the 2015-16 Sabres http://www.tsn.ca/off-season-game-plan-buffalo-sabres-1.267947 calls them a lottery team next year and I completely agree.

To Tank or Not to Tank 2011-2012 Top 6 Forwards Stafford, Roy Foligno Vanek, Ennis, Pominville Top 4 D Erhoff, Myers Leopold, Sekera 2016-17 - (As it stands now as of course there will be changes to the current roster over the next year) Top 6 Forwards Kane, Eichel, Girgensons Moulson, Reinhart, Ennis Top 4 D Risto, Bogosian Pysyk, Zadorov to be honest I think Moulson will have his work cut out for him to remain in top 6 by the start of the 2016 season. Anyone really think the Tank wasn't worth it? It gets really scary when we start looking at the 3rd and 4th line of the future Sabres compared to the 2011-12 team D
-
Only complaint is that 9 is Kane's #.
-
Smart take - you should post more often as I completly agree with you.
-
I agree that maybe the Jets trade wasn't an overpayment. When they line-up next season the Sabres will have both Kane and Bogosian in the line-up. Myers will be a Jet but Stafford could be anywhere and who knows if Lemieux, the #1 pick from the Blues or Armia ever turn into anything. sure he wants to win the lottery, their odds may not be great but they will still be in it.
-
yes, that would be fanastic but I wont be surprised when the next "trade for McDavid" arguement infiltrates this Thread.
-
is it possible to do this in a trade for McDavid
Crusader1969 replied to sabresareback's topic in The Aud Club
why is this even a thread? its not happening. Oilers can not trade the next great Canadian player, he is worth more $$ to the Oilers than anything the Sabres could give hockey wise. Plus they are going into a new stadium after this coming season. How many Private boxes and Season Tickets does the name McDavid sell on name alone? You can dream about a trade to the #1 slot but its pure fantasy. WHy waste the time? -
my only concern is that Murray is so enamoured with McDavid is that he gives up the farm in order to move up to #1. Im content with just adding Eichel to the long list of prospects the Sabres already have and battling with whichever team is lucky enough to win the lottery tonight.

So what if the Sabres get the first two picks in 2015....

Hurray! I agree with you on something :) -

we are set for the next 15 year - Eichel and Reinhart. TSN replayed the final game of the WJC last night - watched the last 10 minutes and Reinhart was fantastic. Last two minutes of the game - not sure he left the ice, took every important draw and set up Duclair beautifully for an empty netter where the D made a big save. -
you should probably read it again as they didn't lump the 15th pick with the 4th. It said " 15th-overall pick being worth about 1/3rd of a first-overall selection". Im pretty sure it isnt guaranteeing anything it just proved that you are wrong with your statement that "Now go back and look at drafts over the years and compare players in those two ranges. You'll find a guy here and there, but what you'll see is an indistinguishably mixed bag of good and bad players." The main point I had from the beginning was that guys like Zacha, Konecny and Conner have all been ranked in the top 10 at some point in the year and have great potential to be a front line NHL player. Now guys like DeBrusk, Bittner, Harkins, and others ranked around 22 are all fine players and may turn out to be great players but the odds of that happening is lower than that of first group. So as I Sabres fan I would prefer pick 14 over pick 22.
-
I don't need to look it up as I know the research is already done and sorry but your statement is completely wrong. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/analyzing-value-nhl-draft-picks/ "Using this graph, we can see that the most significant value in NHL draft picks lies in the first three selections, and the largest drop-off in pick value occurs between picks three and four. Players selected in the four-to-15 range are still generally very valuable across their careers with a 15th-overall pick being worth about 1/3rd of a first-overall selection." Guys drafted late in the first round have a value not that much different than a guy drafted in the 3rd. Further this is perceived as a deep draft but one where Tim Murray said there is a drop off around 19th.
-
look at the guys who are around 14 (Zacha, Conner and Kocnecy) and compare that to the guys around 22 -if you don't think they are better prospects and potential to be stars - you aren't following closely
-
Why couldn't the Islanders have missed the play-offs? even by 1 point. This looks like a top heavy draft where the top 14-15 all have star potential.
-
Kaleta played his last game of as a Sabre last night.
-
Looks to me like the Islanders pick will be 22nd overall (ugghhhh). For the Sabres to get a better pick one or more of Washington, Minnesota, Detroit, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Pittsburgh or Calgary will have to make it to the Confernece Finals. If 4 teams below them make it to the Conference finals the Sabres will get the 18th pick. Im placing my bets on the pick being traded this summer.
-
But the coach you talk of was long gone by then. I do agree with you that even if we land McDavid there is no guarantee on a cup. Agree with everything you say except that I think Ennis is a top 6 forward. love the thought you have with Reinhart and Kane together - I always assumend Kane with Eichel but I like what you said just not sure Reinhart is ready for Prime-time right away. He could be, I (and lots of other posters) always seem to discount the kid readiness for the NHL here but lets not ever forget how great he was as Canada's #1 center. On a team that had McDavid on it and in a tournament that Eichel played in.
-
the topic of trading #2 for #1 should have its own Thread in my opinion. I can see it be interesting to discuss but at the end of the day its not happening. Having McDavid as the face of any franchise is worth more financially (ticket and jersey sales, increase in advertising $'s) than anything the Sabres could offer from a hockey standpoint. This is especialy true when McDavid ends up in Toronto.
-
remind me how many were drafted in the top 3?
-
Agreed - next year is the stepping stone. 75-85 points would be a great season for such a young team. 2016-17 season play-offs here we come. I hate line-ups that move Reinhart to the wing. I could see Girgensons moving to wing and being Dustin Brown 2.0. If the Islanders go out in the 1st round - you better be sure you can sign O'Reilly to an extension. Giving up the 15-20th pick in this years draft plus another prospect for a 1 and done player seems like a steep price to pay. Pysyks's health is a huge factor for this team (and for him obviously) next year - If healthy he will slot nicely into the 2nd pair D. I honestly could see Zadorov in the AHL for a year playing the #1 D role for the team. I could even see Reinhart in the AHL to start the season. Though if Reinhart plays like he did in the WJC he could pressure Eichel for the #1 Center spot. Bottom Line - congrats to all Tankers and to all non-tankers - you are welcome cause you are about to be treated to the best decade in Sabres history. .
-
Next year is going to be a tough one. Watching McDavid and Eichel play in the league while Marner, Hanifin or Strome are back in college / Juniors. I don't think there will be a whole fan base cheering for loses next year as the changes in lottery will dampen attempts to Tank. For me, I'll keep watching, I'll cheer for them again but I will never get over "what could have been". I will say I will harbor ill feelings against any player who decides to be a hero over the next 2 games. They've made their point, they played hard most every game. Time to play for the logo on the front of the crest and not the name on the back.
