This is Pegula's second year of a three year plan to win the Cup. What a joke! His endorsement of Darcy is an endorsement of Ruff, and a condemnation of Pegula. This mess is as muchor more Darcy's fault as Ruff's.
Sabres have the most expensive defense in hockey-Even Sekara has a big contract. Reigher is invisible- can't even win a battle in the corner. Weber is his equal at 1/4 the price. Erhoff can't hit the net with his slapshot. Myers and Leoplod are just plain awful. Their best defenseman has been Sulzer-a throw in for Kassian.
With that mess at defense they are in salary cap hell. Leoplold and Reigher can be let go at season end-do it now and let Weber, Brennen, and Pardy play instead. Then the forwards can be addressed. This team has enough forwards for two lines-that's it. Third and fourth lines are a joke.
Ville Leino's contract will hurt this team for many years. He might be the most over-paid player in the history of hockey (Dipietro might be #1). The roster needs a huge purge before they can think about a cup. This is not a problem that can be fixed by a tweek or two every year. Reiger acts as if we are close, and one more player will make the difference. Sadly, none of this will happen with Darcy here. He needs to go before Ruff. Let the new GM evaluate the entire team for the rest of the season, and dump salary along the way.
