I think we will see a huge bounce back from Dylan with Benson and Quinn on his week.

Adams clearly likes Appert and did not directly say he would not be considered for HC. His final comment was he won't get into specific head coaching names as that isn't fair (someone asked about Ruff). He said that they should just know he has a plan.

I am not happy with Adams. He did not do enough. I will give him credit for being pretty straight forward here and finally after months of bs saying the truth. The team isn't gritty enough, they aren't physical enough, they didn't handle it well, and it wasn't good enough. I didn't think Adams would say it to be honest. I will see how the coaching search goes.

Asked about the arrogance that seemed to be coming from the room early in the season, Adams basically said the team didn't earn it yet and repeated it a few times. Seemed a bit incredulous that the team thought they had arrived. Talked again about earning it.

Tage update: will miss Worlds and is getting an MRI. Nothing that will effect him this summer or next year but will be out several weeks

Asked about how he feels about the core: 1. Gotta be careful with regression, says there was great progress with UPL and JJP. Regression wise there was a challenge because a number of players fell off. Thinks he talked a bit about why it happened. 2. Believes in the core. Trusts in them to get it right. Thinks they want to be here in Buffalo and make this team great. Says core guys felt like they were letting team and fans down.

Goes on to talk about how there was not a philosophy change here but that felt players might have changed some of their dynamic. He gets asked point blank what happened. He felt often times they were caught in the middle, meaning the were not an attacking team or a defensive team. Saw hesitancy. They need to fix it he said.

Adams doubled down on no longer talking about how young this team is. His tone has shifted from the last time I heard him speak.

I think he has a short list. "This is just about winning, you know. Winning. If we think there are players in the offseason that will help, 22, 32, 42, we wanna win" Adams

Adams believe that the HC of the Sabres will be a sought after position.

"The people retained on the coaching staff were retained for a reason. Will be important conversation for the next head coach about rolls and responsibility and how they will be divided up." Adams has a clear idea of what that direction would take. "I want the next head coach to be someone with experience" - Adams He clarified that NHL head coaching experience was what he wants and has a clear direction in his mind. Adams said he wants to give the reporters and the fans honesty as much as he can. This was in response to a question about if he still believes the Sabres Cup window is open. He does believe it is open BTW. Being asked about not filling Quinn's spot, the 3 goalies, and not making another in season move. His response is, that it is on him. He will go back over decisions they made and reevaluate. Mentions they did not like the cost to acquire a Quinn filler. Mentions specifically UFA dollar amounts. "No more talk about this being a young team"

Adams thinks he needs to stay level headed and make the best decisions he can for the org. Has a hands on leadership style and wants to know ppl and understand. Wants to get to know them and understand what they are about. That doesn't mean he won't make hard decisions if he thinks they are right. Will talk to the team about it tomorrow.

Says Granato left the team better than when he started 3 years ago Adams says he has his own process and is patient, did not make this decision on the plane last night. Says the team was flat out not good enough. That is not just on the coaches but also on the players. He was also at fault. Talked to Terry about it but it was his decision and felt it was wanted needed to happen to take the next step. Wanted to give the guys a chance but they just didn't take that step. Didn't feel that making a coaching change during the season was the right thing to do. "We left some things on the table this year" I will be paraphrasing btw. Adams said: need to be better (said it about 10 times now) and that the starts of games weren't good enough but it was more than that as well.

He hasn't been good in the NHL in years for 1. And before ANYONE quotes the Devils record, that was Burnette's doing and the proof is that the guy who made Florida the president trophy team, made Devils a playoffs team, and made the Predators a playoff team in back to back to back years. Every team he left dropped down after he left. Florida appears to have recovered and replaced him and deserves credit.
