  1. They did. Lybushkin He's not, you wanna go 5 because he plays pk, okay. You don't want Borgen taking regular shifts in your top 4.
  2. But that's how you've decided to use it. That's not how it is used. Brawndo gave you a glimpse of that. No it isn't. We could say they both deserve equal consideration.
  3. I can say that about everything though. Look, I think xgf being applied to individuals has gone a bit overboard.
  4. That I'd agree with. But it's just another stat to consider. Xgf% is a function of xgf and xga
  5. It tells us that Tage is pretty average defensively when on the ice and that he's clearly an elite shooter because he can score for lower xgf areas. That's about it. He shouldn't be a negative player because it's based on league average, tage doesn't have an average shot.
  6. No it doesn't. You're not understanding xgf correctly.
  7. If his name was Marchand you'd like him. In reality Skinner is a discount version. Skinner is a 5 time 30+ goal scorer. Soon to be a 9 time 20+ goal scorer. He's played 13 seasons... so how streaky is he really?
  8. Florida fired their coach, coaching still matters. Reinhart had 82 points last year. Here let my prove this, Rasmus Dahlin.
  9. Tage only has 16.5 xgf because of where he shoots from, not how good a shooter he is. Look at the xgf leaders, they are all stars. Again that's if he was a league average shooter. +/- is not a better stat because all it tells you is that a player was on the ice when a goal was scored at even or short handed. You like it better because you understand it better and that's not the same. +/- is really only mildly useful when comparing a team to itself and then digging further for why player x has a good or bad one. For example empty net goals give you a +1. Xgf quantifies how dangerous where you shoot from is. +/- tells me if you're on a bad team 5v5.
  10. Nhl teams aren't using xgf the way fans are. It gives an average for a shot so you want to shoot and get pucks to places with higher averages. Tage Thompson isn't average so xgf underestimates him but again, it's about getting shots from the higher xgf spots. Really xgf is poorly named. Should be more like shot danger% resulting in goals on average. Which is clunky. What I think it is good for is goalie as it tells you what an average goalie should do.
  11. No it isn't. The mistake is not adding better depth in the last 2 years to defense, not losing a 6/7 defenseman. Borgen is replaceable.
  12. lol some things never change around here. Risto sucks! Yea but what about Reinhart!?!?!?
  13. That is the truth. It took between 24-48 hours for orders from the French high command to reach the frontline in a war that featured tanks that could be 100 or more miles past that frontline by the time those orders got there.
  14. Speaking of France, when you study the German offensive there in May 1940, it's shocking how poorly prepared the French were even with superior tanks, mobility, and numbers.
  15. Lol, no. Levi will be signed in early April by Buffalo.
  16. I'd agree that Ristos hockey iq is the issue.
  17. Nope. They're making the playoffs. Think you mean '40
  18. I'd be really disappointed if Kulich is just a 3rd line guy.
  19. For YEARS there was a lot of talk on this very board about how even though most advanced metrics said he was awful, Ristolainen still was pretty decent and his tough and assist driven play actually benefitted this team. I think by the time of his trade most if not all were over him, so to speak, but never the less the myth that Ristolainen was good/useful as a defender seemed to persist. It boggled my mind for years that I had to have raging debates over Sam Reinhart where Risto was just "good" and a lot of it came back to his ability to hit things now and again. After the trade Philly, who I think felt invested, signed him to a 5year, 5.1mil per year extension. He is in the first year of that deal. Since a lot of ppl like to crap on the analytics lets not even use them here. I said the myth of Risto has been broken, that he was a useful top 4 defender who produced points despite his defensive short comings. Well, right now after 728minutes of TOI he has 0 points. That's right Craig Anderson has produced more offense than Risto to this point so I think the myth that he is good can finally be put to rest. He was mediocre while here and now I think he's below replacement level. So what has Adams done? He managed to trade Ristolainen and got a 1st round pick for him. Also, if torts is so good as a coach, why is Risto even worse than before?
  20. Sabres are making the playoffs so that pick will be in the late teens most likely, 18th is my guess.
