  1. I think this is where Adams head might be at.
  2. Boy, did the Scouch session ever put the fear of god into a Power pick. Has me thinking he's Mike Wilson...
  3. Have you heard of Mario Lemieux? It's about as relevant. Some big players are good, some aren't.
  4. He grew up a Leafs fan who came to Buffalo to watch games and thinks it would be "pretty awesome" to be drafted by the Sabres.
  5. This seems to be overlooked in the discussing about the value of size. It's not all about overpowering people, it's also about covering real estate, picking pockets and being hard to get around.
  6. Sure, the season he was an all-star.
  7. 😆 What does Girgensons have to do with Beniers? Are you seriously suggesting that's where he projects?
  8. You might be right, but I want him here. Hope he can prove he's ready in camp. There's space for him on the team. He'll be 20 in January and he's advanced enough that I don't think he'll be damaged. EDIT: By here, I mean the Amerks. I don't see him in Buffalo.
  9. That from Instigators this morning? If so, when I heard it, I didn't take it as inside info, more like Friedman's (paraphrase) "everyone knows Power is the best prospect, of course you are going to take him." Like it or not, truth or not, public perception that there is a consensus has arrived.
  10. Peca over Satan, Ramsey over Housley. I don't want the highest scorer, I want the best hockey player.
  11. Not sure I understand what you are saying. That we aren't going to get a bucket of trash? That we are going to recognizes the bucket of trash for what it is?
  12. This is so 2018. Rookie GM coming off a disastrous season. 1st overall pick looming with a defenceman topping the charts. Franchise hyping its youth. Star centre locked up to a long-term contract expressing dissatisfaction at locker cleanout. Media frenzy feeding the hype machine about a looming trade. Sabrefans unanimous in thinking the centre is very good and has to bring us back a haul. Other teams fans cutting down the Sabre centre, offering up packages of spare parts and picks Sabre fans slowly moving from “this guy is a stud and a core piece, we need to keep him” to “he’s the problem, locker room cancer poisoning the environment, we need to change the culture.” Media whispers that the market just isn’t there. This weird sense that the Sabres are working to a deadline, even though one doesn’t actually exist. Deja ***** vu. Can’t wait to see the bucket of trash we open in July and try to fool ourselves is better than Jack Eichel.
  13. Not at all, just a man plugged into what the industry is saying.
  14. Well I guess the cement parachute part is pretty accurate. Ron Rolston was officially named head coach about a month after the season ended. Darcy said they were intending to do a full search when they fired Lindy, but he liked what Rolston did as interim coach and he didn’t interview anyone else. A cynic would suggest that Darcy also knew the tank was coming and a sacrificial lamb was needed. Ted Nolan was handpicked by Pat Lafontaine and introduced as coach immediately after Rolston was fired. No other candidates were considered. Dan Bylsma was targeted and hired as the biggest name available by an angry Terry Pegula and Tim Murray after they had unsuccessfully targeted Mike Babcock and reportedly thought they had reached an agreement with him. Phil Housley was hired by Jason Botterill and Terry Pegula about a month after Botterill became GM. It was not thought the Sabres conducted a very thorough search and most believed they were waiting to talk to “hot” assistants Housley and Rick Tocchet after the finals. They did not talk to Tocchet and hired Housley within a week of his being available. Ralph Krueger was hired after charming both Botterill and Pegula after being one of a handful of candidates targeted. He was named coach about a month into what was believed to be the first actual coaching search the Sabres had conducted under Pegula. Botterill said he was intrigued by Krueger and reached out based on a recommendation by Jim Rutherford. It doesn’t really seem like the Sabres under Pegula have much of history of doing anything other than targeting people and seem to have generally got who they wanted, with the exception of Babcock. What Adams is doing is definitely something new.
  15. Friedman sure talked today like Power was a slam dunk 1st overall.
  16. I saw all of that, consistently for Sam, post-Eichel injury. I think Adams plan might be to keep Sam this year, even if he won’t sign long-term, in order to shield and lead the youngsters. He’s gambling that Sam can find success in that role, and a home there as team starts to jell, and sign an extension. If he gets a good return for Eichel and the team moves ahead it might work. But it’s a helluva risk. Rejean Houle was on that roster for a reason.
  17. Hockey News used the same comparable. As suspect Beniers is going to be a tough test of that “What is a Sabre?” paper on Adams’ bulletin board. Power might be better (might be, not saying is), but Beniers is everything Adams wants this team to be.
  18. The post was Chad essentially saying Elliotte was shilling for Eichel’s camp and that Chad thinks the Sabres aren’t as done with Eichel as Eichel would like you to believe. I.E. they aren’t going to give him away.
  19. So the Kings Insider says the Kings aren't that interested in Jack Eichel And the next day the Sabres insider says the Sabres might not be ready to move on. Hmm...
  20. Zegras or #3 (if Adams got both he would be a miracle worker) is the key piece here, and likely as good a piece as Eichel will return. Each is roughly the equivalent of Cozens, maybe a tad higher. Comtois is a middle six forward with top six upside who led the Ducks in scoring last year. He's also young and abrasive. If you want Zegras or three, you will be lucky to get Comtois added. You won't get more. That's the price of getting a 5-star like Zegras. To me, Rakell is essentially a cap equalizer with upside and downside. He could play in the top 6 until his contract runs out and gets flipped. He could suck and turn into a pure dump. The Ducks fans think he is a rental worth a late 1st.
  21. Rakell is the #3 piece in the proposal.
  22. It's Zegras, Comtois and Rakell for Eichel and a small sweetener — that's all 1 for 3 is. It's definitely a ballpark offer and probably more than Duck fans will want to give. I don't people think people realize Comtois' value?
  23. Agree with every word here.
  24. Friedman's appearance made it sound like they are at the staredown phase. Parameters set, homework being checked, Adams trying to get offers sweetened, other GMs deciding whether or not to blink. I wonder if there is a suitable offer on the table yet?
  25. His numbers look respectable. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/394730/simon-edvinsson
