  1. LOL, 4 pages on the first overall pick in the entire draft. Tells you where the fanbase is right now.
  2. You mean it’s based on the 7 U18 games and the 13 Swedish junior games, because the 22 SHL games wouldn’t have got him picked in the 1st round? I mean, I guess…? Because 40 games this year overall would have put him in more games than most prospects this year I think.
  3. But Rosen wasn’t. Their type seems to be JJ Peterka pace (with upside), Jack Quinn upside (with pace) and highly coachable. Rosen seems all that. They took him over other players (Lucius for example) who may have been ranked higher, but weren’t all that.
  4. I literally think they made the deal after NHL staff went home for the day and it won’t be processed until they start work this morning. Should be something shortly, you would think, unless there were weird conditions attached that are being reviewed. Sam’s camp and Levi’s camp have confirmed they’ve been told. In the pre-Twitter/insider days it would be announced when the draft opened this morning. Still convinced there is a “now” piece coming - player, pick later today or ready-to-play prospect. There was no reason to consummate a pick for a conditional 1st next year and a B prospect last night. That trade is still available in February.
  5. Thing is, sample size was an issue for a lot of players this year. Stars took a kid 9 picks later who played nowhere else but that tourney. Kid also had 7 goals in 12 games in the Swedish junior league this year and good numbers in that league last year. His got a track record. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/420269/isak-rosen
  6. Does Bader watch players or just basically calculate their statistics? Low-scoring winger does not match his game at all, only his SHL numbers this year.
  7. I will miss Risto, but I’m happy for him. Gave everything he had for this team and deserves a chance to play in a situation where he will be appreciated. The return was about what you’d expect for Risto if analytics had never been invented. Since analytics have been invented, this trade makes me wonder if analytics are what Twitter thinks they are. As well as I think Adams did on this trade, it makes the Sabres worse right now and chances are Risto will be the best player in it. I wonder who will have a better next three seasons: Robert Hagg or Will Borgen? Hagg isn’t even two years older, and has played respectable minutes in a similar role for the past 4 years. Hagg always struck me as a Dick Smehlik type - an OK stay-at-home defenceman who gets overused by his coach and over-hated by a vocal portion of his fan base. Hope Samuelsson makes him redundant, but I like him better than Irwin. It’s easy to overlook the 2nd-rounder, but it’s nice to have and we will appreciate it a lot more in a year or two, however it’s used.
  8. Skilled, courageous and plays with pace. Seems to fit their profile. The 7 goals in 7 games at the World U18s - the highest level of hockey most of these guys got against their peers - impressed. Hope he fills out, but there’s clearly offensive potential.
  9. Denisenko and/or Tippett are decent prospects with offence, but they don’t get me excited, or really seem to fit with the Sabres direction.
  10. I’d be happy to pick up Levi as a secondary piece in the deal, but his value is probably close to Will Borgen. He and next year’s 1st is not the result of “a ton of interest” today in Sam.
  11. I believe what is happening is the agents for Reinhart and Levi have confirmed their clients but the official trade has yet to be cleared and at least one other party has yet to be informed. I’m betting there’s another player involved, thus the delay. Levi and next year’s 1st could wait until the trade deadline. No need to make that deal today.
  12. Levi was excellent for Canada in the WJC, but he is not an “A” prospect. Sam will get more than him and Florida’s 1st next year. 20 games of David Savard and Nick Foligno that.
  13. I’m guessing. I can’t see a deal based around Tippett or Denisenko.
  14. Lundell and goalie prospect Devon Levi. Sabres kicking something back is my guess.
  15. Only if Zegras and Drysdale remain off the table.
  16. The Rangers know they can see the records as soon as they make a competitive offer. They let this slip so they have a ready-made excuse to their fanbase if they fail to get Eichel.
  17. Rangers fans: (more likely) Lafreniere: Jagr (Iginla) Kakko: Brendan Shanahan (Nick Foligno) Chytil: Dylan Cozens (Krieder) Miller: Colton Parayko (McKee) Kravtsov: Kiril Kaprizov (Yakupov) Schneider: Shea Weber (Ristolainen) Lindqvist: Ryan Ellis (Jokiharju) Jones: Ryan Ellis again (Pilut) Georgiev: Varlamov (Talbot)
  18. Right, but if they got Dach in a Jones trade, a Dach/5OA offer is competitive with the others we’ve heard. I’m still hoping for a Ducks deal, preferably one that leverages Zegras.
  19. I suspect many current offers are built around picks in this year’s draft. Some (Rangers, Wild) can easily be shifted to a similar asset post-pick. Some (Ducks) cannot. If Adams played his cards right, he had acceptable offers on the table by last night and he is playing them off each other to maximize return. If he hasn’t got an acceptable offer yet, it’s unlikely he’s going to get a better one after the draft. Eichel is a front-burner move, not something you circle around to after Plan A falls through.
  20. Adams wants to trade him today, of that I am sure. The question is has he played his hand well enough that a worthwhile deal is on the table?
  21. Just Guhle would be an absolute home run. He offers everything Borgen does with legitimate upside. This would be incredible just to watch the “number sniffers” (outstanding @Weave) melt down. I’m not sure how a Risto return could be. I’ve been told for years it would be a win if we just give him away.
  22. Sabres: Eklund Kraken: Power Ducks: Eidvinsson Devils: Hughes Jackets: Clarke Wings: Wallstadt Sharks: Guenther Sabres: Beniers Canucks (traded): Johnson Senators: McTavish
  23. Five years ago we were talking about Boston On the downswing because their core was all pushing 30 and that’s when teams usually start to decline. What happened was not that a good organization found ways to pass the torch, but that the aging core stayed good. Marchand is 33, Bergeron 35, Krecji 35, Rask 37. And the guys they’ve augmented the roster with - Hall, Smith, Coyle, Reilly, Grelczcyk - are all pushing 30 as well. Theyve made a lot of mistakes in the draft, but that core - which they accumulated mostly through luck - continued to insulate them. They’ve got two good players whose best years aren’t behind them - Pastrnak and McAvoy. The fall is coming.
