  1. I think playing and dominating in college this year will be better for him than the mess that will be this season. Other than the kids we saw finish last year, I don’t want a single prospect on the team coming out of training camp.
  2. Pretty sure Power’s agents will insist that season gets burned.
  3. Power will join the team when Michigan’s season is over, if there is time. Could also see him in Roch for the playoffs.
  4. Stylistically, Hagg is Risto minus the offence. He’s the guy Samuelsson will have to beat out for McCabe’s job. I’m betting Samuelsson wins. Hagg will play further down the lineup. He and Miller might be a serviceable 3rd pair.
  5. So outbidding the Bruins on Foligno, or the Canes on Andersen and/or similar moves of that nature?
  6. Pretty sure he’d have to clear waivers, unless that was changed in the latest CBA.
  7. You what you desperately wanted - a franchise flush - but you expected them to acquire better versions of the players being flushed right away? Not snark, serious question.
  8. This year’s Dea/Fogarty
  9. I thought he’d come in at $1 million for one year and bet on a good year earning him considerably more next year. Great contract for the Sabres.
  10. He strongly delivered the message “if you expect me to cave before training camp, it ain’t happening.” Adams has no intention of winning this year and no desire for an Eichel return that will help him this year. He has the cap space flexibility to easily swallow Jack’s salary this season, he has him under contract for five more years, and he seems fully capable of paying Jack to stay away if it comes to that. He’s prepared to go ahead this year with more or less the roster he has today, with or without Jack. There is no pressure on him to make a deal he doesn’t want to make until next June at the earliest.
  11. I buy him from the perspective of not wanting Okposo deals handcuffing him and I even understand the “blocking” argument. But he is in a position to eat money this year and probably next as well. He has the space and he says he has the budget. He can take on Rask easily. He can take on Fiala. Flip him for more futures if he doesn’t want him long-term. I don’t know if the CBA lets him retain on Jack for say two years only, but that is within his means as well. If it means a fair return, it will be money well spent.
  12. Looks like Adams has been reading your library.
  13. If it is only money that is standing in the way of a good deal with Minnesota, then Adams is shooting him self in the foot.
  14. If you want a reference point of why this isn’t necessarily true, you have a good example right in front of us in Casey Mittelstadt. There is definitely such thing as shiny new toy syndrome. KK 5 goals in 19 playoff games. Cole Caufield 4 goals in 20 playoff games. One is a bust, the other a stud in the making. They were both 20 years old during the playoffs.
  15. To elaborate, not bothering with the reset and the scrubbing clean, just trading Jack and Sam for Tkachuk and Jones, signing Coleman, etc. - doing what @Thorny has been asking for for three years and most teams do, trying to win now.
  16. Sabrespace has been saying they want a team they can love again. Adams appears to be listening, he’s just not taking the most obvious path to get there.
  17. Emotionally, I’m on board with this. If you take a step back, there is definitely a mystery box element to this thinking. Kotkaniemi is literally just six months older than Krebs (and Dylan Cozens for that matter) is considerably bigger, probably has a similar skill level and has already played in the Stanley Cup finals. He’s shown more than any forward in his draft class other than Svechnikov and Tkachuk and all of the prospects in the 2019 draft. Development is not a straight line and it would be a mistake to say Kotkaniemi isn’t on a similar tier of Krebs and Turcotte and the other forwards we’ve targeted in terms of potential.
  18. The grocery store story is a meme that I’ve seen posted multiple times with different names: Tom Brady, Brad Marchand, anybody fans love to hate.
  19. I think that there was a certain emphasis on adding Torrey Mitchells and Brian Flynn types who are still trying to break through as opposed to Benoit Pouliot or Andrej Meszaros types who are basically hanging on for one last paycheque. At least that’s how I perceive Caggiula, Hinostroza and Hayden. Not sure whether or not I include Butcher in that group because I don’t really have a sense of his headspace. Anderson is a special case, an old pro who is here because he loves hockey. The only guy who might fit the “hanging in” profile is Pysyk.
  20. People for years on here have been clamouring about how you need to burn it down and rebuild from a slate washed clean of the tank stink and all the players poisoned by it. This is what that looks it.
  21. Best news I’ve heard from an Insider recently was Friedman’s quote that Adams ask and Drury’s offer was a Venn diagram where the two circles didn’t overlap at all.
  22. So we actually added bodies, right? Wilford replaced Smith, Christie replaced Granato and Granato replaced Krueger Fee and Bales stay. Ellis and the new video guy mark an expanded coaching staff.
  23. Adams prefer seemed to make it clear that he would have no problem running UPL as the starter if he can seize the job, and he gave the impression that he thinks it might be possible. I think that’s a bad call. Linus did not get term because they did not believe he can be the goalie for this team when it gets good. Another bad call.
  24. Adams came off composed and sure of his path.
