Pick #14 (13th player): LW/RW Isak Rosen (SHL)
dudacek replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Kid had 7 goals in 7 games against the best of the world in his age group at the U18 WJC this summer. And he had 28 goals in 50 games mostly as a 17-year-old in a U20 league. Not sure what's not-so-good about that? -
Pick #14 (13th player): LW/RW Isak Rosen (SHL)
dudacek replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
This one’s for @Thorny For now, Rosen will keep playing wing. But Hellkvist envisions him moving to center someday. During a training camp practice earlier this month, Rosen skated in the middle. “He’s more comfortable on the wing, because when he’s been playing junior and boys hockey, he’s been playing wing,” Hellkvist said. “The way I look at this, he should play center, he is a born center. But he hasn’t been able to. I don’t know why.” https://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/sabres-prospect-isak-rosen-possesses-array-of-special-talents-perfect-vision/ -
To start 2023/24 the starting lineup will include most of the following, all of whom will be 25 or under: Eichel trade piece Another Eichel trade piece 2022 1st-round pick Cozens Mittelstadt Quinn Peterka Dahlin Jokiharju Power Samuelsson Johnson UPL There may be other leftovers, and there almost certainly will be newcomers, but how good the three above unknowns are, and how far the ten already in the system have progressed will determine whether we will be a playoff contender or not.

Thanks for the info. I've always thought "blowing the ELC" was way overplayed in some internet circles. Each player develops at his own pace. At some point you will have to decide whether or not to make a long-term investment. Whether you make the call 2 years in or 6 years in is far less important than correctly evaluating the player.

Unless it changed in the latest CBA ( @Taro T?) he should become a UFA a few months after his 4th season is complete, so summer 2023. He's impressed me. He was very young for his draft year and has grown a ton. Poised and a magnificent skater; defensively strong and a breakout machine. I feel pretty strongly that he will be an NHL top 4. I do think he is a flight risk, particularly because of our depth at LD. In my view, the Sabres need to establish/grow an excellent relationship over this season then give him the Mittelstadt offer: sign him at the end of this college season, promise to let him finish the regular season in Buffalo, and allow him to blow an ELC year.

When people call for someone like Cozens to be captain I wonder how much serious thought they put into it. He is a 19-year-old kid with less than 1/2 a year experience. At your workplace, how inclined would you be to follow someone with that resume? No, it's not exactly the same thing, but it is relevant.
-
I think this is probably the best move for this season.
-
Disagree with this. They are choosing a top 3 pick this year over Jack to be their Kane, while Cozens, Dahlin and Mittelstadt are their Toews, Keith and Sharp
-
He specifically has referenced Sam in that way on multiple occasions. He named Staal and Risto as well in the context of when he took over.

Lafreniere. That simple. Other pieces can be part of it to make the cap work, etcetera, but in terms of important parts, that's it. Not Lafreniere+++, just Lafreniere. If I'm Drury that move improves my team immensely right now and likely moving forward as well.

The Rangers best players are: Panarin 29 Zibanejad 28 Fox 23 Kreider 30 Shesterkin 25 They just acquired Ryan Reaves, 34, and Barclay Goodrow, 28. Trouba is 27 and Strome 28. Their window is tied to Panarin. That's why trading a good young piece makes sense, especially since Eichel is young and good enough to fit with any age group.

Confirmed Owen Power returning to Michigan for His Sophomore Season
dudacek replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
History has shown that the "burn a year" thing is pretty much inevitable for high-profile guys coming out of college. Personally I think Power is better off dominating college this year than learning the NHL in Buffalo, but either way it's "blowing" the first year of control on a development year. -
‘Hey Treliving, Jack has no interest in playing in Calgary. He might not report.” ”Hey Guerin, if you trade for Jack, I’m going to see you get squeezed so hard on the Kaprizov contract. ”Hey Murray, Jack’s not budging on the surgery thing. It’ll be next year before he laces them up. He may never be the same.” ”Hey McCrimmon, you didn’t hear it from me, but Jack ain’t the kinda guy you want in Sin City. You thinkKane has issues...” “Hey Drury, the fact if the matter is that Jack doesn’t need surgery.” Not saying any of things are actually happening, just illustrating the types of levers an agent has in order to get what he wants.

I'm suggesting that Jack's team is doing what it can to get Jack to New York.
-
I want Dell to start just so I can see those pads.

Is anyone else of the opinion that the Rangers first made overtures to Adams last year because 'someone' suggested they should? Is anyone else of the opinion that a lot of people (and one hockey player in particular) want to see Jack Eichel in New York and a lot of pressure is being exerted on and influence exercised by a lot of parties in order to try and make that happen? Is anyone else of the opinion that these god-awful offers we have been hearing from New York are the result of a team that arrogantly thinks that Jack is theirs as long as they wait long enough and squeeze hard enough? I hate the fact that Eichel's agent is also Chris Drury's agent. And I wish to god that Calgary or Anaheim or Vegas or Minny could or would step up and ignore all of this insidious effort to paint Jack Eichel as broken, high risk, and not really interested in them and make the Sabres a serious offer. Because I believe that this has become simply a staring contest between the Rangers and Adams that won't end until one blinks.

Confirmed Owen Power returning to Michigan for His Sophomore Season

This is what I think too and I'm sure it's how both sides will spin it. I wonder what the actual discussion was and how if it is how each side actually feels. -
I am a big fan of Rasmus Asplund and the way he plays. I take it his 20-goal projection is based entirely on 7 goals in 28 games last year? Because as near as I can figure he had: 1 goal in 29 NHL games the previous year 13 goals in 111 AHL games 20 goals in 170 SHL games 30 goals in 116 Swedish Jr games He's never been a goal scorer at any level.

Any insight as to how much influence the Sabres had in this decision? -
This makes a lotta sense to me. I'm pretty confident Mitts will get 20 because he can and he will get the opportunity. And somebody is going to take advantage of the ice time and the opportunity and surprise us. My money would be on R2, but it literally could be anyone.

Skinner used to score, but he's scored 21 the past 2 seasons combined Kinda like Okposo with 11 in his past two combined, or Cody Eakin with 8 Beyond than those three, the next most prolific NHL scorer on the roster is Zemgus with 61 career goals Mittelstadt has 27 in his career. Olofsson has never really scored away from Jack R2 has 5 NHL goals Tage has 18 Bjork 19 Cozens 4 Rasmus Asplund has 8 and his career high in any league ever is 10 Hinostroza had 16 one year, 22 his other four years combined. Caggiula, with 44 goals in 260 NHL games might be the most successful finisher in the bunch. These guys could all hit career highs and we'd still be one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league.

Sabres Hired Tim Kennedy and Nathan Paetsch as Development Coaches
dudacek replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
From the Sabres site: Kennedy most recently served as director for the Academy of Hockey, where he organized and led on-ice development sessions. Paetsch spent his last three seasons in a mentorship role with the Rochester Americans, seeing limited playing time while effectively serving as an extended member of the coaching staff. ...the Sabres believe they have added development coaches who can speak firsthand to the habits required to become an NHL player. -
