I don't see why ROR nor ROR's management would tell Colorado NFW before the deadline. He's not coming off his best season and they can't even begin to officially negotiate a possibly extension until July 1 (or the week before now, I can't remember how the calendar works with the new CBA.). The only advantage would be if he felt like this was going to be a down year for him, and he wanted to get an extension signed before it played out. athletes typically don't think like that.

I don't think he moves until the deadline and only if Colorado is well out of the playoff picture. With the new lottery system next year, I expect GMs to be much more hesitant to move their first round picks until they know a little more about where they stand. I don't see the teams that are confident about the playoffs next year as willing to part with NHL pieces for him, so I think it's gonna be a first and a prospect at the deadline or Colorado signs him themselves.

Depending on the value of the offer, the team signing the player owes the team that owned that players rights a certain number of draft picks (bottom of this page has the picks for each $ level: http://www.nhl.com/ice/m_news.htm?id=636658 ). They also MUST be your teams original picks, not picks you traded for. In the range were talking about to successfully pry these guys away, it's at least a first a second and a third.

I was assuming that the $ was the issue. We don't need anyone over 30 at $8M, IMO. Backes will be 33, Staal 32. And Toffoli will cost you way too much in picks. now, if we're talking trade, that's a different story.
-
the RFA's will all cost you multiple first round picks. No way Kopitar nor voracek make it to market. and the rest of those guys will be on the wrong side of 30 by the time they can lace up for the Sabres (some well into the wrong side)

i was just thinking about those. Man, If I came across Larry Quinn drowning in Lake Erie, I'd throw him a rock.

I would liken changing the net sizes in hockey to changing the pitchers mound height in baseball. It's a big change initially, but then everyone forgets about it. Oh, and it worked to increase scoring.

Superdraft - where would every NHL player get picked today?

Well, that makes me feel even better about the pick! -
What if they made the primary tiebreaker goals scored?

Was that your guy? -
If the nets are made larger, the goalie pad dimensions need to be capped where they are right now.

Just as much or more protection could be provided under a more form fitting jersey.

Goals against the big 5 (USA, CAN, SWE, FIN, and RUS) in group play were up 10% on the bigger surface in Sochi. (27 GA in Sochi vs 24 GA in Vancouver) In Torino, those 5 let in an astounding 47 goals in group play. Sochi was an anomaly.

Sounds good, as long as there are options I'm ok with it.

Then what the hell would we do between the parade and football on Thanksgiving?

You're alright, man. Thank you.

The House of Mercy in Rochester. Sister Grace, Sister Rita, and the team there do an amazing job trying to care for the homeless who have fallen through the cracks. They are tireless and dedicated to others, the weakest among us: the mentally ill, disabled, drug addicted, etc. We came into contact with them last year when a tent city in Rochester was demolished by the City, without warning, 3 days before Christmas. My wife and I offered to upgrade their website pro-bono. We launched the new site this week: houseofmercyrochester.org If you're interested in a much needed, super easy way to help out the homeless in Rochester, click through to their Amazon Wishlist and buy some socks for them.

Taking the worst players out of the league would reduce scoring, I think.

Which could increase the number of breakouts and transition scoring. I like that too.

Superdraft - where would every NHL player get picked today?

He absolutely was a reach, but with the way the centers were falling off the board I didn't think he'd make it to the next round. I think he's going to win multiple Selke Trophies over the next 10 years. I want that guy on my team. -
In addition to the goalie pads and penalties, I would like to see the size of the ice surface increased to international standards. This would open up more shot lanes and spread the defenses thinner, allowing more passing and skating.
