Or have had a smidgen of foresight... We've been in need of scoring line centers since 2007. We did not draft Tyler2 to be a center, we moved him there in 2012. We traded for Cody in 2012. We Draft Girgorenko in 2012. So the team went 5 full years without really doing anything to improve at the most important offensive position. That's all I'm saying. I understand that this group could be worth $20M in 5 years.

Glancing at Washington's Payroll, they have $16.2M in their top three centers (Backstrom, Ribeiro, Laich) If the Sabres don't make another move involving a center, they sign Ennis at about $1.5M, and Grigs makes the team on a EL deal with some incentives, they'll have about $5M in their centers.................... :wallbash:

Didn't Osgood/Hasek win the Jennings that year?...Yes, yes they did.

For Foligno's Sake

Too bad Semin doesn't play center.

Can block shots without screening Miller. :w00t:

I mean after Enroth. It'd be nice to have something in the works when we renegotiate his contract next spring.

[injuries excuse placeholder] Regehr had the most hits by a Sabres Defensemen since the NHL started tracking the stat in 1997. Only 2 8 fewer than he had the year before in Calgary. He was the 11th most hitting defensemen in the Eastern Conference.

When do we need to start training the next NHL caliber net-minder? Draft next year, play in Rochacha in 2-3 years?
-
I did not come to that conclusion while using my eyeballs (or earballs (nice! :w00t: )). He was leagues better than Butler. I think 13 new players dressing every night constitutes a little more than your standard NHL attrition.
-
Sorry, the part where you said he kept his core completely in tact. I think we're arguing over timeframe. I'm looking at where we have come in the last 28 months. I think your timeline is longer than that. I'm not saying he didn't ever fall in love with his own players, I'm saying he hasn't been that way for over 2 years. I get that you don't like Regier. But he is responsible for turning over 66% of the team in the last two years. He robviously wasn't in love with the players, at least any more.
-
Except for the part where he didn't. You're not going to unload the entire team all at once. The market will never be there to support that. Connolly, Roy, Goose are all gone. and only one walked. Ehrhoff was a bold move, and so was Leino, who the experts had as the 2-3 best FA forward. Many more of the exits were trades. and the Roster Turnover is undeniable. Even without making a judgement on Regier's skill as a GM, to say that he is still in love with his players just doesn't add up.
-
You've got to compare him to what went out. namely, butler. Are you saying that isn't a marked improvement?
-
How the hell did I miss Stafford? I must be watching the games ;) seriously though, I have no idea how I missed that. Sekera played only 49 games and averaged less than 17:30 in ice time. The regular starters for that season were Lydman, Tallinder, Rivet, Montador, Myers, and Butler. Butler would be the closest, but he played 10 more games and averaged over 20 mins of ice time.

Not sure if it's been said, but he's gonna wear #32. He even asked Ray for "permission".

Compared to NE Division Champion Team: Players still on the team that played in the Boston Series (10): Defensemen (2): Sekera (49) Myers (82) Forwards (8, but really 5): Pominville (82) Ennis (only played 10 Regular Season Games) Vanek (71) Kaleta (55) McCormick (0 regular season games played, playoff call-up) Gerbe (Only played 10 Regular Season Games) Ellis (72) Stafford (71) No Longer with Team (17, but really 13): Roy (80) Connolly (73) Hecht (79) MacArthur (60) Kennedy (78) Montador (78) Grier (73) Gaustad (65) Butler (59) Lydman (67) Tallinder (82) Rivet (78) Mair (69) Torres (14) Paetsch (11) Mancari (6) Paille (2) Let's break that down: 66% of the total man-games played from the 09-10 season are no longer on the roster, 28 months removed from that team winning the division. 75% of the total defensive man-games are gone. The only "regular starter" remaining is Myers, who was a rookie that season. 62% of the total forward man-games are gone. If you don't count Ellis, Kaleta, Vanek and Pominville are the only "regular starters" left who were "regular starters" on that team. Throw in Miller, and we get: Myers Miller Kaleta Vanek Pommer 5 roster spots next season with more than 2 seasons of experience as "regular starters" for the Buffalo Sabres. Darcy falls in love with his players = debunked. assessing this trade as anything other than 100% amazing is incorrect. Kotalik was part of getting such a great deal Using the 2nd to move up and get Girgensons is already more promising than Byron or Butler Regehr is a critical piece of a much improved defense weighing what went out (Byron, Butler, $3M in non-cap dollars to Ales) vs. what came in (Regehr, 2nd) that was hands down a great trade.

It would put him in the top third of the league for forwards, so yeah, above average. [30 teams x 12 Forwards = 360 forwards / 3 = #120 marks the top thrid-tile (?sic?)] Not trying to say the money isn't too much for Foligno. Just based on the numbers I don't think it indicates "Blown up" salaries.
-
Mean NHL Salary is now $2.7M [70.3cap - 8 = 62.3 Median Payroll / 23 roster spots = $2.7M]
-
I still want him as part of the Nash deal.

At the same time, Rayzor actively recovering from a concussion would be better than Neale.
