Lost Point Countdown: -15 Final: 78 (Mathmatically Eliminated)
Drunkard replied to MattPie's topic in The Aud Club
Everyone should hate Boston more. Hell, I hate Boston more than ISIS. Sure they're religious zealots that kill innocent people and subscribe to a perverted version of their faith, but the other side is freaking Boston. Yuck. -
THANK YOU, FANS! THANK YOU, FANS! THANK YO... eh, not really
Drunkard replied to Stoner's topic in The Aud Club
I wasn't there but it sounds about right. Nothing like using a fan appreciation event as an opportunity to fill your coffers with profits from overpriced nachos and beer. -

Yep. As long as there is a waiting list for season ticket holders the Sabres would be stupid not to raise ticket prices from a financial stand point. From a PR stand point though, it's the opposite. -
Yep. Lump him in with Nolan and the tank and be done with all the bad stuff before the 2017-2018 season starts. A 4-5 year period of before a decade or more of prosperity (hopefully) and a Cup or two to go along with many cusps.

Bucky tears into Pegulas — "At what point does the honeymoon end?"
Drunkard replied to Stoner's topic in The Aud Club
Exactly. The only real way a fan can voice their displeasure with the product is with their wallet. The Sabres brass is probably aware of the secondary ticket market but it doesn't impact them financially. The real impact will occur once the waiting list for season tickets disappears. -

Never change, PA. While Tom Webster has a point that you managed to find a negative for nearly everything, the organization has proven to flub this kind of thing in the past (like the year they sent out price increases on fan appreciation day) and we shouldn't swallow everything they are selling whole. Just like the NFL with their pink uniform nonsense where they make money selling that crap hand over fist while giving very little of it to charity. I wonder how many pink jerseys and hats they would sell if it showed each fan the percentage going to charity while they were going through check out. While the best gesture would be to ###### can DB (actually the best thing would be putting him in a dunking booth filled with acid or piranhas), the next best thing would be to announce no price raises for tickets or actually a drop in prices, revenue sharing be damned. They shouldn't be taking a dime from fans for anything fan appreciation related though, including raffle tickets. The fans get gouged every other day for tickets, merchandise, parking, food, and beverages. Fan appreciation events should be about giving back to the fans whose support makes everything else possible. Not finding another way/excuse to soak them for a few more dollars. -
And buy some season tickets! I don't care if you live in Alaska, you buy them and some pet jerseys for your sled dogs. I hear DB is driving last year's Mercedes. That is unacceptable. He won a cup you know.

I'm ok with this, even though I hate DB and would like to use any excuse to ridicule him.

game discussion thread GDT: Panthers at Sabres 7PM 3-27-17 MSG
Drunkard replied to spndnchz's topic in The Aud Club
This is completely dependent on TM being the one who hired DB and having the authority to fire him. If Pegula is really the decision maker on that then it doesn't really tell us anything about TM. -
DB may not see it that way though given his love for pairs. I'm fuzzy on who Gionta's usual pairing buddy is though. For a long while he was on a line with Larsson and Foligno but Larsson got hurt and Foligno was promoted to the Eichel line. He seems to be paired with Kane a lot and if that sticks there's no way they go to the 4th line. I'd like to think he'd move Reinhart to the 3rd line and play him with Kane, leaving Larsson and Gionta on the 4th line but I don't have any faith in that happening, especially the idea of moving Reinhart to center. I guess we'll see what happens though. If this heroic run to 10th picks up steam, we'll probably be stuck with DB again next season.

This to a T. I like the young call ups but the way to build depth is to keep them as call ups for when injuries and suspensions occur. If we count on these guys to fill permanent spots and they regress or struggle then we are either wasting another year on the outside of the playoffs looking in or TM is left scrambling to upgrade on the fly which would likely cost an arm and a leg. I would prefer to re-sign Kulikov to a short term prove it type deal and still try to swing a deal with a team that doesn't want to give Vegas anything too good. I'd like to send Gorges down to Rochester to mentor the kids and hopefully start rebuilding the defensive pipeline with more picks.
-
Yeah, nobody is likely to hit 100. The only way it happens is if they re-enforce the rules the way they did post lock out in 2005.
-
Eichel may have a shot but O'Reilly has no chance. 64 is his previous high water mark and he's now 26 years old which is around the time when forwards start to decline in their scoring production.

I'd argue that a good offensive coach would have cut the EJ experiment short and we'd have someone else at QB. Hell, I'd bet Thad Lewis would have been good enough to get us to the playoffs with a top 5 defense on the other side of the ball and he wasn't even that good. After all if Rex was smart enough to figure it out, I'm pretty sure Hue Jackson would have figured it out too. I'm not a big Whaley supporter in general, I just don't think it's fair to pin too much on him when a meddling owner and a Marketing guy with way too much authority have essentially taken the biggest decisions away from him. I hate EJ Manuel and I hated spending 2 first round picks on Watkins. I wasn't crazy about the McCoy trade either given the massive extension we gave him but I seem to be wrong on that so far, although to be fair, the biggest reason I wasn't a fan of the trade is because running backs age like milk these days and the bad years and dead cap space for that contract will still be coming down the road. In the end I won't shed a single tear when he's (DW) eventually fired, but until they actually hire a GM or a football Czar who has enough clout to over ride the decisions of our fan boy owner and overzealous marketer turned President, I don't have much faith in this team to ever turn the corner into a well run franchise. The best we can really hope for is to catch lightning in a bottle and get a lucky run to end the drought. We won't be challenging the Massholes for supremacy of the division anytime soon though.
-
You could be right. One could argue that he hasn't had the authority to make the most important decisions though. I still think he wanted to hire Hue Jackson as the head coach and he would have kept Schwartz as our DC. If that happens maybe the team is better off than trying to win the press conference by hiring the loud mouth funny guy who managed to turn our top 5 defense into a mediocre one, despite his reputation as a defensive mastermind. We probably wouldn't have Taylor here (whom I like) but at least we would have had an offensive coach (that we sorely need) while keeping the DC we knew was good.

Expansion Draft -- Sabres moves and speculation
Drunkard replied to SabresBaltimore's topic in The Aud Club
I agree. Now that Eichel and Reinhart will be getting new deals soon we should prioritize keeping the younger cheaper players like Girgensons and Larsoon and expose the players who get paid more than they should based on production such as Ennis, Moulson, and Gorges. -
Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch

That's a great movie and a classis for a reason, but if you're going to give up on a entire genre besides one classic you're going to miss out on a ton of great stuff. -
You complete me, Smell. Sounds like Whaley needs to get himself a Mr. T type gold cross and chain and pay for some sort of red wine of the month club for the Pegulas or he's toast. He should probably decorate his office with some old trophies from his little league team or the time he bowled a 300 game when he was 22 or something. A Ben Carsonesque painting of him and Jesus on a spa day together probably wouldn't hurt either. Pretty much anything other than improving his football knowledge since that's irrelevant and all.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch

I've seen the original I spit on your grave from the 70's but I think the remake from 2010 was better just because it has a much darker feel and better acting. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend Eden Lake. It's about a couple in England or Australia or some place with the British accents that goes camping on a lake. This couple gets absolutely terrorized by a group of teenagers and fights back. It's not the campy slashy type despite the lake setting. The Signal is awesome too but in sort of a funny wtf type way. The ending was disappointing but the rest of it was great. It's way funnier if you're inebriated in some way. -
The Sabres should just goon it up against Toronto this weekend as an F U to the league for Ristolainen's suspension. Time to sign John Scott, Zenon Konopka, call up Kaleta, and any other guys that would enjoy pounding some Leafs. Even give Ray and May some skates and tell them to shake the rust off.

How to Fix the D Both Short and Long-term?
Drunkard replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Damn good point. As much as I'd like to see some upgrades on the blue line I'd be willing to bet our current defensive corps would looks much better if they weren't asked to play in a system that requires them to consistently thread the needle with 50+ foot passes. -

You're missing out. Those are some great horror flicks and they offer a mix between various horror genres. For example, I Spit on your Grave is an awesome horror flick about a chick who gets assaulted by a bunch of rubes in a hick town and she escapes only to plot her revenge in awesome fashion. The Mist is a supernatural type movie based on a Stephen King book where a rip occurs in space/time which allows all these crazy monsters to enter our dimension. If you're a Walking Dead fan the actors who play Dale, Andrea, and Carol all have parts. Most people love this movie but hate the ending. To me, the ending makes it better. The Signal is a weirdly awesome movie that involves most of the population turning various levels of psychotic based on a weird signal that starts making it way across the world through tv and radio signals. 30 days of Night is probably the best vampire movie I've ever seen set in some small town in Alaska right after the place goes into complete darkness for a month. Feast was made by a group of people who won some kind of tv show contest where the winning group of aspiring actors, directors, and producers received the funding to make their own movie. The others are more traditional ax murderer/slasher type films without any supernatural elements. -
DB loves his pairs and he's made Eichel and Reinhart a couple, despite the fact that Reinhart would be better suited at center.
-
It is when he claims to have re-vamped his system, yet the same problems plague our team that caused Pittsburgh to fire him. Keeping DB next season means we will have completely wasted the ELCs of Eichel and Reinhart. It also means they won't have any playoff experience by the time we start paying them real money.

Oh, man, you are missing out then. Horror is my favorite genre, followed by comedy, and when you can mix the two the way the Evil Dead trilogy does (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness, the remake from 2013 is straight horror without the comedy) then you are really striking gold. If you're interested in watching any of the ones I listed and you want a brief synopsis I'll be happy to give you one.
