How many 30 goal scorers earn less than $6 million per season? I'd venture to say not many and the few that exist are either on ELCs or RFA type contracts and they'll be getting hefty raises by the time they approach UFA status the way Kane is.
-
Not really forechecking is playing defense too because the other team has the puck and the forechecker is actively trying to get it back for his team. Just because it happens in the offensive zone doesn't mean it's not defensive play.
-
Last time I check, forechecking is a big part of playing defensively. You probably mean he's horrible in the defensive zone but to say he's atrocious defensively then to say later that forechecking is a strength is kind of an oxymoron.

He'd be stupid to sign a 3 year deal. The guy is 25, coming off a very productive season, and has had a slew of injuries throughout his career. This is his best chance to cash in on a long term contract. We just gave Okposo $42 million. I'd see if he was willing to take a matching deal and hope that he wants to stay without putting us in cap hell.

Randy Sexton and Steve Greeley hired as Asst GMs

Sweet. Now which one of these Pittsburgh guys is going to be smuggling Crosby and Malkin into Buffalo with them? -
This would only be the case for the 1st rounder we've gotten every year but the draft has 7 rounds which tears your theory apart with respect to where they draft. It's not like the 38th player taken with our 2nd round pick is better than the guy Anaheim takes at 24 or 28. None of our picks after the first round ever jump straight into the NHL. Same with whomever we take at 68 vs whomever they take at 54 or 58 and down the line. The real reason isn't because of where they draft (other than the first round), it's because there are fewer open spots on more talented teams. Guys like Manson, Montour, Theodore, etc. get a chance to develop in the minors because Anaheim has guys like Fowler, Vantanen, Lindholm, Bieksa, and Stoner holding their own (some better than others) which keeps the young guys down on the farm longer. We're doing it now with Guhle. The defense sucks so everyone is penciling him into our top 4 rather than considering that he should probably spend some time in Rochester. It's kind of tough not to want to rush Guhle though when the alternative is watching Gorges play another season as he gets slower and slower with age. The B portion of your post has way more to do with it than the A portion.

Update: Sabres sign D Man Viktor Antipin to 1yr ELC
Drunkard replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
It can't really hurt, but the biggest factor seems to be the sorry state of our defense. He'll get a chance to get more minutes here than on a team with a better defense plus we should (in theory at least) have plenty of space to offer him a long term deal for solid money given we don't really have anyone else locked up long term beside Ristolainen and Bogosian (who could still possibly be exposed and taken in the expansion draft). -

I thought he liked Hillary now though? Even fired Comey for the way he treated her. That's gotta be the real reason, right? Our President wouldn't lie, would he? -
Did some teenager from Maury Povich or Jerry Springer get internet famous and that's where Thorny's gibberish came from?

TSN's Cullen - Off-season Gameplan for the Sabres
Drunkard replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
It's definitely an option, but I'm not so sure I would do it if I was calling the shots. For one, I'd prefer Vegas to take either Moulson, Ennis, or Gorges (let's hope) and if Bogosian were to be exposed the chances of any of those 3 being taken would drop significantly. Another reason is I'd like to see what Bogosian can do under a new coach and new system. I don't know how many coaches he's played for but he was serviceable to good under every coach he's played for except DB. Hell, he looked good under Nolan whose system consisted of turning a verb into a noun (compete). -
Technically my post was sports related because I was making a joke about what Dark should say to our new GM in order to gauge his reaction while also taking a swipe at our absent minded owner for perceived errors in his hiring preferences. The fact that people want to piss and moan about anti-religious bias is what gets it more off track than anything. It doesn't really matter though. I'll post what I like and you can do the same.

Thanks, I really wasn't aware. I'll take that under advisement .... or not.

You can, but you gotta make sure to get the head, otherwise it can keep burrowing like a zombie on autopilot.

TSN's Cullen - Off-season Gameplan for the Sabres
Drunkard replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Yeah, that part made no sense at all. McCabe is already better and younger, plus he's so much cheaper. Bogosian would likely only be protected because we don't have anyone else worthy of protecting but assuming we did pick up an upgrade to him I'd have no problem exposing him so we can protect the upgrade. -
Well now you've gone and hurt my feelings. Excuse me while I wipe away all these tears.
-
Thanks. I thought it was funny. Or you can post about whatever you like and I can post whatever I want. One day you'll all see that the flying spaghetti monster is the one true deity. Until that day, it's my duty to poke fun at the rest of the deities.

Next time you see him you have to tell him that you'd like to talk to him about Jesus. It would be a good litmus test to see if he's really as churchy as Pegula seems to demand or if he only provided enough lip service to Pegula to check the religious box and get his foot in the door. Inquiring minds want to know.

May subconsciously he knows he belongs in jail for the robbery he committed. -

Isn't making a mountain out of a mole hill exactly what Leino is doing though? Comparing failing to meet performance expectations and being booed for it to being in jail seems like the exact same thing you are accusing others of. -

He should at least chop an ear off or something. He's got to do something to step up his whiny emo game. Comparing ridicule from fans to jail doesn't exactly inspire sympathy. -
Robin Lehner RFA - to Sign or Trade that is the question!
Drunkard replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I'm with you. Very few goalies are worthy of premium cap hits so it's best to keep a stable of young cost controlled guys in the pipeline at different stages of development so you can replace them before getting stuck with a mediocre one on a bad contract. I would bridge Lehner and keep him while he's young and cost controlled then let someone else give him his big payday. -
This guy.

As long as there's a waiting list to take the place of the existing STH the Sabres will continue to raise prices each year.
