  1. That's brilliant. Let's just run the only half way decent QB this pathetic franchise has had in the last 15 years out of town so we can play the next guy up in the batting order because he threw a garbage time touchdown against a prevent defense. I guess the backup QB really is the most popular Buffalo Bill.
  2. I'm pretty sure his horse did.
  3. Another great job by Sean the Wrestler! Looks like the early season turnover luck is done and over with and Buffalo's success was all a house of cards. The playoff drought will officially be old enough to vote in less than a month.
  4. Yep. Late 1st rounder and a b prospect or a solid prospect who hasn't made the jump yet are probably the absolute best things we could reasonably expect and even that is certainly not guaranteed.
  5. Someone had to say it. Otherwise we drift back into Roy and a first for Malkin territory and using Kane and 2 nickels probably isn't going to land us a quarter.
  6. Any team that trades for Kane will be a contender or on the bubble trying to make the playoffs. They likely won't have thw cap space to add an anchor like Moulson and certainly won't have the desire to.
  7. In what world is Kane worth a proven number one defenseman? Why not just trade Moulson for Erik Karlsson and Griffith for PK Subban. That will certainly fix the defensive issues while also providing offense.
  8. Pominville is not all that fast so I don't know why you keep saying they are going with speed. Not slow doesn't equal fast. Kane gets so many shots because Kane actually shoots the damn puck. You need guys like him otherwise it becomes a nonsensical game of endless cycling while looking for some mythical perfect pass until you eventually turn the puck over. Sure that looks great for possession metrics but you can't win if you don't score and you can't score if you don't shoot. Sometimes a shot can be better than a pass but shoot first players needs to be on lines with guys who are willing to take a cross check in the back in order to screen the goalie, deflect shots and passes, and crowd the front of the net. Reinhart can be that guy, even if he eventually goes back to the wing. I just wish they'd try it for a few games whether they move Kane to a Reinhart centered line or they put Reinhart on the top line with Kane and Eichel. As for why he's not tearing it up against 3rd liners I have no idea. I'm not here to make excuses for him. Maybe he's not that good. Maybe he needs to be paired with a guy or 2 guys who are shoot first players. I hope it's the second option.
  9. I think the only way Vancouver even considers this would be if Kane works out an extension with them prior to the trade going through. I'd do it though, even though our ride side is already stronger than the left. I'm pretty sure this isn't allowed. Players who sign a 1 year deal can't be extended until January 1st of the season or something along those lines (going from memory, I'm too lazy to try to look it up). Nice outside the box thinking, but I don't think there's any way Kane signs a short term contract. 5 years is probably the shortest he'd take but given his injury history he might be looking at the full 7/8.
  10. In theory, we should be able to clear it all off after we pay his $1 million roster bonus on July 1, 2018. At that point he'll only be owed $2 million in actual money but he'll still have his $5 million cap hit. We just have to hope some budget team would welcome his cap hit without expecting much/any production. It's looking less and less likely though. Moulson doesn't have a single point in 10 games this season. Even a budget team with ideas of tanking for the next Matthews/Dahlin/whomever would want more production from a $2 million investment.
  11. You can't split it like that. Whatever amount you retain will be equal for both salary and cap hit. If we want to get rid of all of his cap hit we can't retain anything or pay him any salary. To move all $5 million of cap hit, the team we trade him to would have to pay his entire $2 million salary. We can wait until after July 1st to pay his $1 million signing/roster bonus though before we trade him. Then (assuming we can somehow trade him without retention) the team who acquires him pays the $2 million salary and gets the entire $5 million cap hit.
  12. I don't buy this argument because they have Pominville on the other wing. Pominville may be quick for an old guy but he's not a speedster by any stretch. If Kane and Eichel were consistently paired with another speedster than I could see the merit in the argument. The problem is that Kane and Eichel are both puck carriers. Splitting them up and putting Kane with a center like Reinhart (who isn't the puck carrier Eichel is) would allow Kane and Eichel the opportunity to both carry the puck more when they are on the ice. I think Reinhart would do a better job of putting himself in position to screen the goalie on Kanes multitude of shots as well as poking in some rebounds as well. It seems like too good of a match not to even try it. Kane is putting up SOGs at an Ovechkinesqe pace. Kane has 73 shots in 15 games and Ovechkin has 78 shots in 16 games so far this season. Reinhart is good in front of the net. Why has this not been tried? I don't recall it happening in training camp, preseason, or the regular season.
  13. This man makes sense, even if he chooses to ignore one of the greatest shows ever made despite the fact that it's filmed in his own back yard. Let's draft some f'n Mooseheads. Start with Zadina.
  14. Especially since there's no long term commitment to acquiring him at this time since he's a pending UFA. Unfortunately that's likely to suppress his price on the trade market though too, but if enough teams are interested though it could still allow us to get decent trade value. I think he brings in a first at the deadline. Hopefully with a decent prospect as well. I still prefer to keep Kane but if we're not seriously in the thick of the playoff hunt once the trade deadline approaches we should roll the dice and trade him then hope to re-sign him in free agency if they can work out a deal.
  15. I have no idea. My comment was more in general, not about this specific event.
  16. The most we can retain is 50% of both cap and salary. That means we can retain half ($1 million salary and $2.5 milliom cap hit). If we were trading him to a team trying to get to the cap floor they would probably want the full cap hit. Of course that's probably just wishful thinking though.
  17. The intent isn't to artificially suppress his point totals, it's to see what they have in him at center so if and when he's needed there in a pinch when the playoffs are on the line they know what they have in him and what they can expect. In a perfect world Housley would break up the Kane Eichel pairing and put Kane with Reinhart, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards right now for whatever reason. Until then they'll just continue to cycle through all the other options to see what works best.
  18. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean somebody isn't out to get you.
  19. It's kind of impossible to take the pseudo-patriotism of "military appreciation" at professional sporting events seriously when they charge the military to hold these events. I'd be much more willing to take it seriously if they didn't use it as yet another way to generate revenue like the bunch of greedy pukes that they are. I've never served but I've grown up around the military my entire life and still work near and around them to this day. Most of the veterans I've spoken with about it take it for the dog and pony show that it is.
  20. We already know that Reinhart can produce at a minimum 40+ point level on Eichel's wing. We don't know how he'll produce centering his own line over the course of a season. We're not making the playoffs this year so we should keep Reinhart at center to let him fully acclimate to the center position at the NHL level. If playing 3rd line center with a bunch of bums continues to throttle his production it should allow the team to save a few bucks on his bridge deal this summer which should help buy them time to clear some of the cap anchors off the payroll. That's a good thing. I'd much rather see that than see Housley prematurely move him back to Eichel's wing to bring up his production as well as the value of his next contract, only to find out later (after an injury to O'Reilly or Eichel) that he can't hack it at center or that he can function at center but it severely hampers his ability to produce.
  21. I don't see Kane taking a 4 year deal.
  22. I agree. It virtually eliminates any possible chance of trading him but the odds of that are practically zero anyway. Bite the bullet and bring up one of the kids to take his place.
  23. Worst game of the season. Way to go Sean the Wrestler! They lost this game on both lines. Their DL destroyed our OL all night and their OL had its way with our DL. I had a bad feeling after I read about the two times we lost to the Jets at 5-2. It was almost like losing was inevitable. We'll see what they are really made of next week. If this embarrassment of a game tanks the season or if they manage to regroup and shake it off. Only time will tell.
  24. Yep. It was mentioned up thread that the last 2 times the playoff drought Bills were 5-2 they lost to the Jets for game 8 both times. If they can win tonight it will be a big step towards getting the monkey off our back.
  25. I agree. I can't stand actual anchovies but I love Worcestershire sauce and Caesar salad dressing.
