Yep. Or they could have kept the good (not great) QB that they already had and waited for the rookie to outperform him before they replaced him.

I think the tank has failed so far, but there's plenty of time for it to pay off. The good thing about tanking is that it brings in blue chip young talent that can help your team for a decade or longer. The short term results have definitely been craptastic but we seem to have a strong nucleus of young players to build around in Eichel, Reinhart, and Ristolainen along with several youngish veterans to fortify the roster in O'Reilly, Scandella, and Okposo (depending on health concerns). We just need some of the younger guys already on the team to step up (McCabe, Antipin, Girgensons) and then we need some luck that Guhle, Ullmark, and Nylander live up to the hype/potential. We also need to hit it big with our #1 pick this year and for Casey Mittelstadt to be the lord and savior that the ancients foretold. It can happen. We need some luck though.

I'm on board for some voodoo. Maybe he can put a curse on the opposing team before each game. Now we just need a chicken farmer and a statue of Jobu.

This. It's amazing how much less the team stinking up the joint has bothered me since I stopped buying merchandise, attending games, and paying for center ice. Not being financially invested has made me less emotionally invested as well, but I still log into this board every day to see what's going on.

So now we need evidence whenever we posit a theory on here, or is that just when you or some other moderator disagree? So what about all the religious references that McSoul-less and Terry Pegula have said in their press conferences? What about the fact that they pumped up what a religious guy Peterman was and they drafted him? What about the pre-game prayer services and the hunt for a chaplain and all that other drivel? Sure it's circumstantial at best, but that's exactly why my theory is just a theory at this point. Quarterbacks have usually been the face of the franchise for the majority of teams with a few exceptions for guys like Ray Lewis, Lawrence Taylor, etc. McDermott has not made his faith a secret by any stretch so it would be logical for me to assume that the next face of the franchise that he's going to hand pick (like when he hand picked his own boss like he's Bill Belichick) is going to share his values and will likely be someone who wears their faith on their sleeve. I guess we'll see soon enough.

And I'm sorry if you don't like me beating the same drum over and over. Now you know how some of us feel when you constantly bring up what a great fan you are for being anti-tank. We all know where you stand on that issue, just like you know where I stand on the religious one. So if you can beat your drum till my ears bleed why can't I be given the same discretion?

It goes to show their stupid motivation. It's a fair question based on some of their decisions, it's not me being anti-religion because as you stated Taylor is very religious and I've been one of his biggest supporters. I'm asking it again because nobody provided an answer last time. I don't have the motivation to read up on the 200 or so guys who will be drafted this year. Many people on this board study the draft, read all the bios, and watch film/highlights of all of these college kids and listening to their interviews. It shouldn't be hard to point out that college guy x originally planned to go to seminary school or he puts his faith in a higher power above all else or some other nonsense. If someone who has done their homework to the put where they have their own draft board, happens to know the information, I'd appreciate them sharing. Isn't sharing information, opinions, and ideas the point of this board?

Yeah, they're going to trade up and pin their hopes to some rookie who may or may not end up something like Mark Sanchez with a smaller cap hit for his ELC. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I would like to know which of the guys (Rosen, Darnold, Allen, Mayfield, Jackson, etc. is the most religious because I'd bet my bottom dollar that's the one McDermott and his assistant Beane will probably be drafting.

The most important position on the entire team is not the place where you should look to save money for other areas.

Thanks, Smell. I guess I need to start buying the hype on whichever rookie we draft so I can convince myself that they didn't make a stupid mistake. It's still surprises me how happy most everyone both here and on Two Bills Drive seemed to be about getting rid of him. You'd think a franchise that suffered for years through the likes of Rob Johnson, JP Losman, Trent Edwards, Brian Bohm, Ryan Fitzpatrick, EJ Manuel, and Nate Peterman would realize how hard it can be to even find a decent QB, but reading the initial reactions to the trade makes it seem like we suckered Cleveland into taking post concussion Trent Edwards for a high pick. A big part of me thinks Cleveland will ride Taylor to a better record than Buffalo will have this season.

I can't see the video because youtube is blocked at my work but I've thought the Taylor trade was a huge mistake as soon as I found out. I'm one of only a handful of people on this board that didn't want him run out of town because he's not 6'4" and doesn't throw for 300 yard games.

Starting to look bad? It was stupid at the onset, especially for a team that had gone almost 2 decades without even a half way good one. You should never ditch your starting QB until you've got an upgrade already locked in place. They will be scrambling now and have come close to painting themselves into a corner. They've got little choice now but to over pay for one in a trade or sell the farm to trade up and pin their hopes for next season to an unproven rookie.

76 is a pretty good run, especially since they gave him a life expectancy of 1-2 years back when he was first diagnosed with ALS back when he was 21 or so. It's a shame they couldn't back his brain up into some sort of super computer. Or hell, maybe they did.
-
We traded a starting quarterback for a 3rd round pick. Taylor should have been kept to help groom whichever rookie is Jesusy enough for them to draft.

It snowed briefly in my neck of the woods last night but the ground was too warm for it to stick. We still had a 2 hour delay to work this morning though. Thank you Uncle Sam.

Bummer. He had really rebounded nicely after a slow start to the season.
-
What a stupid decision. They'll end up regretting this when the QB they draft gets rushed into playing and never amounts to anything. So which of the available QBs is the most religious? Because I'd bet my bottom dollar that's the one Buffalo drafts.
-
I agree and to be honest, I didn't even click on the link. Whoever did the rankings probably let the number of Stanley Cups hold more impact in the rankings though.
-
I'd lean towards any bridge contract that leaves him as an RFA at the end of it. If you don't do that, I'd go the full 8 years. The stupidest thing this franchise can do is split the difference and give him a 5 or 6 year contract that ends with him being a UFA while he's still in his prime. I sometimes see people recommend that and I just scratch my head.

Yep. I hear IB, McDermott, and Russ Brandon all sing in the same church choir.

I generally never watch the games and actively root for them to lose. I also haven't watched 90% of their games this season. I'm happy when they play well, especially the guys who have become whipping boys on the board (Reinhart pre January, Pominville after around November/December, Lehner, etc.). When they are losing or after each loss I take moving up in the draft as a consolation prize, particularly knowing that the top 4 guys are believed to be NHL ready for next season.
-
Because despite being one of the worst team in the league for the last half decade, everyone is supposed to pump our tires and fawn over how great a couple of our players are. Duh.
-
It's coming. The pressure is gone and they are getting hot as a team. Even Lehner figured out how to win a shootout. I'm glad Reinhart is playing well. His turn around since the calendar changed to 2018 has been one of the biggest bright spots in this crummy season.

If we win enough, we won't be guaranteed a top 6 pick. Vancouver is only up 6 points on us and they've been worse than we've been over the last 10 games.
