It's not about accepting mediocrity. It's about securing the upgrade before you ship the decent/mediocre out of town first. Otherwise you run the risk that your shiny new toy ends up sucking and you take another step backward.

I had a poster of him on my wall as a kid. Guess my username was simply fate.
-
So are you taking my bet?
-
I'll take that bet. Taylor's stats last year were nothing to write home about but I'd be willing to bet McCarron does worse in most categories and might even do worse in all of them. 15 games started, 62.6 completion percentage, 2799 yards passing, 14 passing tds, 4 ints, 427 rushing yards, 4 rushing tds, 1 fumble, 89.2 rating, 9-7 record. I'd be willing to do either an avatar bet or a username bet that these stats from Taylor last year will be better than McCarron's stats this year.

The Moulson contract was by far the worst one. It should have been a 3 year deal even if he had to pay the guy $7 million per year to get him to sign.
-
This is down right blasphemy. Everyone knows that Buffalo sports has only one Lord and Savior and his name is Casey Mittelstadt (PBUH). Hang your head in shame for your polytheism nonsense and say 10 hail Caseys before he lights you on fire and sends you to hell (Boston).
-
Yep. I was one of the few people on here that wasn't over the moon when we traded for O'Reilly but I'd prefer to keep him now. The only way I'd trade him would be for either a younger center in return (on par with a Monahan or Mittelstadt) or really good defenseman on par with someone good enough to play in Nashville or Minnesota's top 4 that is is young and cost controlled or has plenty of term on their contract while still being 27 or younger. If he doesn't get that keep him until Mittelstadt proves he can supplant him and then re-assess next offseason or wait for someone to completely overpay.
-
There seems to be some sort of cognitive dissonance going on that says you can cut his even strength ice time and still give him the most difficult match ups. If you're going to match O'Reilly up against the opponents best line you're not going to be able to cut his minutes without cutting into his special teams time. The Crosbys and Ovechkins of the league and going to play top line minutes so if you want them matched up with O'Reilly he's going to have to get a ton of ice time.

Ryan O'Reilly: "Stuck with the mindset of losing"
Drunkard replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I agree. I don't want to trade him to Montreal but that's only because if we're trading him I either want a young cost controlled center in return or a young stud defenseman coming back and they don't have either. Not trading him within the division does nothing but eliminate 25% of the potential market for him. -
I like it too. That being said, it was the only decent option when they held that fan voting contest. The rest of the options were turrrrible.

I don't think Vancouver makes that trade. They picked Juolevi 3 picks ahead of Nylander, so if Vancouver wanted Nylander they would have just taken him instead and that doesn't even take into account the fact that Nylander's development has been a disappointment to date since he was drafted. Has Juolevi's development disappointed as well? That's the only thing I can think that could possibly make them even consider it.

They should hand out free programs to everyone that are pre-dipped in LSD first. If the game gets boring, start chowing down.

Is that some 13 year old phenom that we'll be pining for in 2023? If so, do you know what zygote's are looking promising for 2036? #tankforlife

Botterill End Of Year Presser: Wednesday, 2pm EDT
Drunkard replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
Yep. Depending on how he's liking California it's possible he retires on July 2nd after he gets his $1 million signing bonus. The rest of us schlubs would never walk away from $2 million, but a guy who has made just over $37 million over his NHL career may be willing to rather than continuing to ride buses in the AHL. -
Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Roku, Kodi and the like
Drunkard replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
I highly recommend getting a Roku. It's easy to add apps and channels and it's extremely user friendly. You can buy a Roku streaming stick for around $45 or a top of the line box for around $100 (I've got 2 Roku boxes and 1 Roku streaming stick). The stick has the same processor the boxes do and I haven't noticed a difference in quality so it's probably better to opt for the streaming stick and save the extra cash. I used to play Netflix and Hulu through blu ray dvd players but it kept forgetting my sign in information and it was annoying to have to sign in all the time, plus it was slower to load and move between programs. With the Roku it happens much less often and usually only on the apps that require a cable subscription. Plus with the Roku you can add the apps for anything that isn't pre-installed (HBO Go, Amazon Prime, Vudu, Hulu, Netflix, etc., plus just about every cable channel has an app although most require a subscription of some sort). Don't waste your money on a smart tv unless you absolutely hate switching remotes and want everything to work on a single remote. Even then Amazon sells attachments for both Roku and Fire Stick remotes for anywhere from $15 to $30 (depending on sale prices) that give you like 10 extra buttons you can program yourself to allow you to do things like adjust the volume, change inputs, and turn the tv on or off. Apples to apples you are paying several hundred dollars for the smart features that are nothing more than essentially having a regular hi-def tv coupled with a streaming device like a Roku or Fire Stick, only it's built into the tv. The difference is most people keep their tvs for years and years so eventually the hardware for your smart tv becomes outdated. When your streaming box/stick eventually becomes outdated it's better to shell out $45-$100 for a new one rather than $500 or more for a new tv. The best (legal) advice I can give you is to split the cost of all these services through account sharing. I pay $14.97 per month for Netflix and that allows me up to 4 simultaneous streams at a time so I've given my account information to both of my brothers and my parents. My brother pays a little less than that for Hulu with no commercials and I sign in with his account. My girlfriend has Amazon Prime so we use her account for that and my Dad has HBO, Starz, and Showtime through his Cable Company so I can use his login information to stream HBO GO, Showtime Anytime, and Starz. You can also get the NHL.tv app for all the Sabres games for around $120 or get every NHL game (less the blacked out ones) for around $160. Roku also has a Sunday Ticket app that doesn't require a subscription to Directv. -
Bill Burr did a funny bit about this on one of his stand up specials. Did you hear about Dave, man? No, what happened? They turned his chip off. He was spouting off about the government and they just turned his chip off. Now his bank cards don't work and he's off the grid. No wonder he's out there shaking his fist and screaming at the satellites in the sky begging them to turn it back on. It's coming.

Golden toes for me, homey.

All my dress socks are black. My dress shoes are also black. My belt is black but I stopped wearing a belt once I stopped tucking in my shirts. My slacks are all either black, navy blue, or gray. My work shirts (I probably have 10 or 12) are all short sleeve and some form of plaid and I do my best to match them with whatever pair of slacks works best with that particular plaid. It makes it easier to match. I don't think I've worn a tie since the last time I had a job interview which was almost 5 years ago.

I have no problem with them replacing Taylor. My problem is with them shipping Taylor off before a potential upgrade was even on the roster. If they kept Taylor, traded up for a "franchise" guy and the FNG beat Taylor out for the starting job in training camp and then they shipped him off, I would have been fine with it. Now if the new guy flops the season is basically toast. This is a good point as well. McDermott is a run first guy. Him and his offensive coordinators are responsible for drawing up the stupid plays like all those behind the line of scrimmage passes to Charles freaking Clay and not having a viable backup for McCoy.

I was born in 1981 so everything pre-Kelly was before my time.
-
Yeah, I guess I should have stated that. I was definitely referring to the last part. I've been a Bills fans since the days of Jim Kelly and I've witnessed the entire carousel of garbage QB's that this organization has trotted out under center since he retired. Taylor may not have been great but he was the bunch of the bunch other than Flutie. The rest were mediocre at best. It still bums me out that they sent him packing without an upgrade already in place. I prefer the bird in hand rather than a handful of magic beans and hoping the new guy is better. I'm not optimistic that whomever they tab as the next great hope will pan out, but we'll all get to find out who we're pinning our hopes to soon enough.
-
This is awfully presumptuous. I wish I had 1/10 of the faith in these guys that you have. Most of the quarterbacks will be gone by the time Buffalo picks and AJ McCarron is such a downgrade from Tyrod Taylor that I expect to be back in QB hell the way we were before Taylor arrived.
-
I wish they had asked a follow up question about how rewarding a sub par goalie like himself with a fat contract would do anything to improve the situation.
-
He's probably not wrong, but I'd say the chances of him coming back now hover around zero percent from a less than 10 percent chance before this. He won't be missed, other than maybe by Doohickie.
