Then why did Pittsburgh have to give them a second round pick? Of course we would have had to give up value and I stated that in my initial post. We could have given them a pick or a prospect to entice them (hence the term bribe). Do you think they would have taken Bogosian instead of Carrier in exchange for a prospect like Nylander? I bet they would have. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_NHL_Expansion_Draft

Except for the fact that they did accept bribes to take on bad contracts. They were bribed into taking Fleury's contract and they were bribed into taking Clarkson's contract. I'm pretty sure Florida bribed them with Marchessault or however you spell his name into taking another guy Florida considered a cap dump. Just because some of the dumps they took on ended up panning out doesn't change the fact that there were considered bad contract dumps at the time.

Sabres shots, this team might be better than we think

That seems to be the consensus (him being a disappointment) from all the snippets I've read. That was huge miss by Murray. -

Mittelstadt will play in Buffalo for sure but I wouldn't be so sure about Nylander. He's done nothing to show he's ready at this point. -
At the time I wish we would have bribed them with a pick/prospect or whatever combo to take Moulson or Bogosian off our hands. I still feel that way even though Moulson has only got one year left.

What should the Sabres do with their spare $19 million?
Drunkard replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
For that price each piece of toast should come with a complimentary joint. -
It also depends on the weather. When it's above 80 degrees I'm capable of breaking a sweat just walking to my car.

In their defense the last time they gave a 28 year old a long term contract for big money it didn't work out so well and now they're likely stuck with him. I'd prefer to stick with the youth movement and only give older/veteran players short term deals.

I forgot about that. I guess the fact that I haven't watched many games over the past few seasons made it slip my mind.

Because nobody wants to live with a crying baby ........ even the parents of said baby.

Even without taking the crowd into account there's still the home ice advantage of last change and the road team having to have their stick on the ice for faceoffs. I'd take game 7 at home.

This should have been the Sabres slogan for the last decade.

Klefbom plus the 10th overall pick sounds good on the surface, but he's a lefty and that would leave us incredibly thin on the right hand side. Even is we assume Dahlin will play on the right who else is going to play on the right side? Scandella, Dahlin, McCabe, Beaulieu, Falk, Pilut and Klefbom all shoot left. On the right we'd have Dahlin playing his off hand, Bogosian for 10-40 games, and Casey Nelson I guess. And people are excited about this? Are you all just high? Do I need to be?

Yep. He's not exactly Casey Mittelstadt (pbuh).

I feel like this guy carries a flask of maple syrup on him at all times.

That's certainly possible. It's also possible that he might have cleaned house at that point as well in some sort of ritual sacrifice to appease the fans. Maybe Quinn gets bought out for his % of the team and Darcy gets the axe in 2007 instead of 6 years later. We'll never know for sure, but we know what did happen and it was nothing to write home about. Same here. Luckily Center Ice has a free preview for the 1st 2 weeks of the season every year. STHs have to make their decision well before any games are played.

I find it hard to feel bad for them because they made that choice. While I understand the whole concept of fear of missing out and not wanting to lose their seats once the Sabres are good/playoff bound again there's a decent chance that supporting the team at all cost helped convince the front office to maintain the status quo for too many losing years. It's a whole lot easier to avoid rocking the boat when all those seats are paid for (even if no one is sitting in them) and you having thousands of people waiting in line to be additional customers. Imagine if 10,000 people had cancelled their season tickets after 7/1/07 when fans watched their two co-captains walk for greener pastures. Does anyone think OSP might have been inclined to change standard operating procedure at that point? Given how focused he was on at least breaking even I think it would have been led to serious changes. As fans we get no official say, but we can vote with our wallets because in the end it's the customers (through tickets, concessions, merchandise, parking, tv ads, etc.) who are responsible for each of these guys getting a paycheck.

To loosely quote Bill Burr "sometimes people just live too long". Walt Disney is the best example. He was a Nazi sympathizer and racist but he died in the 70's so nobody cared and now that's all swept under the rug. If he had lived longer his company probably would've been boycotted and the empire probably wouldn't even exist today or at the very least it would have a different name for all the theme parks and media content.

Larsson, Girgensons, and Bogo - Sabres next season?
Drunkard replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
This. Plus, I take the poll questions as where do you think they'll end up, not as where do we want them to end up. If these polls were about where we want them to end up most of this roster would be send over the falls without a barrel. -
I'm not a local so I don't buy tickets but I'm in limbo as to whether I'll spend the $100-$120 on the single team NHL.tv package to stream through my Roku players. Even at the full $120 that works out to less than $1.50 per Sabres game (less the national broadcasts that get blocked out, but I can still watch through my Directv subscription). With how bad they've been even that amount seems like a monumental waste of money and more importantly time and frustration. As usual I'll do the 2 week free preview first and then wait and see.

I don't think Reinhart is enough as the main piece going to Calgary for Hamilton and if Reinhart isn't enough to be the main piece, I don't think I'd be willing to pay the price. Hamilton is a 24 year old top pairing defenseman. They should be looking for a second pairing guy that won't cost us our best winger. Between Scandella, Dahlin, Ristolainen, Guhle, and McCabe we should be able to field a decent top 4. All it takes is one of McCabe or Guhle to be able to find chemistry with Ristolainen, assuming they pair Dahlin with Scandella.
-
I agree. Plus he's only 27. By the time his contract ends he'll only be 31 so it's not like we're at risk of having to pay him for a bunch of declining years.

That's nothing. Casey Mittelstadt could score 9 goals while playing as the goalie with only 1 skate
