  1. It depends on who at forward gets saddled with O'Reilly defensive minutes. Whether it's Eichel, Reinhart, Berglund, or someone else, I expect that person playing center to have a decrease in offensive production. O'Reilly was a model of consistency. I think his production despite playing some of the most difficult minutes won't be easy to replace.
  2. I think he gets cut after training camp.
  3. So what would an 8 year deal for Reinhart look like at this point? Would it take $50 million ($6.25 aav). Could we get him cheaper or with the increase in cap would we have to go even higher?
  4. Mittelstadt burned the first year of his ELC when he signed last year though so whether Reinhart signs to a 2 or 3 year bridge it will end up either when Mittelstadt is an RFA (2020) or when Dahlin is (2021).
  5. Maybe you boys need to go ahead and take your pants off so you can fight. As for me ........ Now where is that stupid sexy Julian?
  6. This paragraph stuck out to me as inherently wrong, although I see your point somewhat. Sure if I don't like the way Walmart underpays it's workers and encourages them to suck of the government teet because it makes their own books look better than paying above poverty wages I can take my business elsewhere, but that doesn't mean shopping there means I have no right to complain about their practices. Depending on where you may live you may also not have many other options. Being a Sabres fan and spending money on tickets, merchandise, and things like Center Ice certainly doesn't mean that I give up my right to complain about the team either. High speed internet is another example. These private businesses colluded with each other and sliced up the customer pie geographically (an example of private enterprise building barriers not the government) so if I happen to live in a TWC/Spectrum area then the only choice I have is to put up with them, go completely without, or give my money to a lower quality substitute like dial up, dsl, or satellite internet.
  7. I hope not. With O'Reilly gone it's going to fall on Eichel to carry the load defensively for the forwards and I imagine that will be harder to do while dragging Okposo along for the ride. If they want to try to inflate Okposo's stats to make him more enticing they should try that in the 2019-2020 season with a God like Mittelstadt (pbuh) so they can possibly convince Seattle to roll the dice on him. Assuming he doesn't list them on his NTC. I hope they put Okposo on the 3rd line with the FNGs (Berglund and Sobotka) and they let those guys mediocre their opponents into submission. Maybe the power of triple "meh" will create some synergy or something like that.
  8. I have no way of knowing that information but I imagine the fact that we jettisoned our second best player in favor of a basket of lesser pieces probably doesn't paint us as an organization trying to win right now, so I have no idea why they were going to waste time and money on JVR. Signing a 29 year old to a long term contract for big money seems incredibly stupid to me, so I'm actually glad they didn't do that. It's almost as stupid as trading your second best player for lotto tickets and lesser pieces. Based on the whole multiple pieces trade requirements for both Kane and O'Reilly I agree that Botterill is trying to accumulate assets and another rebuild is in process. That's his prerogative as GM, but I don't have to like it and the main reason I don't like it is because he's going to waste the cheap years of Dahlin and Mittelstadt.
  9. So we've already wasted the ELC's of Ristolainen, Eichel, and Reinhart and now we're already planning to waste the ELC's of Mittelstadt and Dahlin waiting for more of these bums to free up money to be competitive? Or are we gonna wait for Berglund and Okposo to be gone as well?
  10. True. I'm sure it saved fracking and energy companies millions of dollars in lobbying costs. No need to spend that money to lobby when you put a guy who despises the EPA in charge of the EPA.
  11. I always hoped we'd see Kane with Reinhart as his center. They seemed like they would have been a much better fit since Kane likes to carry the puck and shoot and Reinhart seems most at home camping out near the net. It a shame they didn't get more time as a pairing.
  12. Is this what Trump meant by draining the swamp? Crack down on lobbying by putting lobbyists in cabinet positions
  13. Here's the link to the thread on PPP about it. https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/topic/206591-walkaway/
  14. If that's how you see it then no wonder you're happy with the trade. I see the pieces returning as pennies and nickels with the potential of any of those pieces becoming dimes at best. Time will tell.
  15. And last I looked it's much harder to replace a quarter than it is to replace 5 nickels. We picked up a pretty shiny nickel in Sheary along with a Canadian penny in Hunwick for a whopping 4th round pick. Using your logic why not trade Eichel then? I bet we could get 10 nickels for him. We could probably get a whole roll of nickels for Dahlin too. We can roll in nickels.
  16. I don't think there's any bitterness towards him personally (other than maybe his parents for giving him that stupid name). The bitterness comes from him potentially being the best piece we received in the handful of nickels we received for our quarter (O'Reilly).
  17. I saw this on PPP. No clue if it's real or not but it's basically a bunch of people who claim to be former Democrats that have walked away from the Democrat party into the open arms of the GOP. Based on the half dozen or so that I read, something tells me the vast majority of people who "walked away" were already in the tank for the GOP.
  18. No surprise to me, but I got Libertarian Lefty. -5.5 Economic Left and -5.23 Social Libertarian. I've taken the isidewith poll several times in the past and I always seem to get Bernie.
  19. I don't think that's true at all. Even with Kane we still had multiple holes filled by JAGs at LW. Half the board was pissing and moaning about the quality of Reinhart's wingers to start last season and that's while Kane was still on the roster. It's certainly possible that we would have made that trade even if we had re-signed Kane.
  20. Even if Hillary had won though the Senate still would have been controlled by the GOP. Therefore the GOP would still be leading the subcommittees in charge of rubber stamping appointments and it still would have relied on Mitch McConnell allowing an up or down vote.
  21. The depth has improved at the cost of 2 of our best players (Kane and O'Reilly). It's one of the reasons I'm not a fan of the basket of lesser pieces approach. FXGMJB made his 4 pieces requirement well known for Kane and his asking price for O'Reilly supposedly needed to mimic the Richard's trade. If he's hell bent on a basket of hopefuls and maybes that's his prerogative, but I don't have to like it. I would have rather he made Kane available for the best prospect available from any of the interested teams. Maybe the results end up worse, but I would guess we would have been better off with that than Danny O'Regan plus whatever prospect that 1st in 2019 or 2020 ends up being. Same for O'Reilly. Maybe Thomas or Kyrou is made available if Botterill doesn't insist on a 1st round pick being included or maybe not. It's not hard to imagine that we could have gotten a higher rated prospect than Thompson from one of the other interested teams if all the other pieces didn't have to be included though. Trading a quarter for 4 nickles that you hope to turn into dimes or quarters sometimes pays off, but it's usually not that hard to obtain nickels in free agency or through lower level trades such as the way he picked up Sheary.
  22. It was a gamble they lost and lost bad for sure. One thing I can say is that I'm more interested in seeing the results of these midterms than any previous midterms I've ever personally witnessed. I don't have a ton of faith in my generation to go out and vote in force, but I'm hoping they surprise me.
  23. Even after Obama got re-elected the Republicans still controlled the House and Senate so they would have need a few Republicans to confirm his pick. While it's not super likely they would have been able to stonewall an Obama appointee for 4 years they may have tried and possibly even succeeded. Obama would've probably been able to get a moderate like Garland to replace Ginsberg and the court would have shifted to the right. Or it's possible they would have been successful stonewalling him for all 4 years and Trump would be looking at appointing his 3rd person instead of his 2nd.
  24. I think we'll find out soon. One thing about Republicans is they don't seem to be swayed as much by public opinion as the other side. We could easily see abortion banned in as many as 20 states if they overturn RvW. It's been in place since 1973 and it's already nearly impossible to get one in certain states as it is.
  25. Makes sense. I could see Thompson being stapled to Mittelstadt's hip just like he probably would have done with Tkachuk if Montreal had given up 3rd overall. Hopefully they develop some chemistry.
