Left versus right is ruining democracy
Drunkard replied to dudacek's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
I believe gerrymandering has led to polarization on steroids. There's very little compromise these days in Washington because our elected officials are more concerned about losing their next primary election to someone who is deeper blue or deeper red than losing their bid for re-election in the general. This fuels the us vs them mentality and short of one party controlling everything we basically grind to a stalemate, go back to our corners, and blame the other side. We need more purple districts to lead to elected officials who serve a more diverse constituency. That would lead to more compromise and more deal making allowing things to get done. -
UPDATE: Sam Reinhart signs 2-year extension -- $3.65MM per year

Why a 6 year deal? That only buys 2 UFA years. We should lock him up for 8 or go with the bridge deal. I don't see the upside is signing him to just 6 years. -
You keep it at 78 with a working AC? That sounds hot. I've got a Wi-Fi enabled programmable thermostat at home and I have it scheduled to go up to 75 when nobody is home. I keep it at 70 when people are home and drop it to 67 when we go to sleep. Our AC at work was busted and the indoor temperature sat around 78-80 degrees until it got fixed and it was miserable, even with one of those industrial fans sitting on my desk.

Definitely. Particularly since we sent them Ennis in the deal whose cap hit was nearly as bad as Pominville's ($4.6 vs $5.6 or something close to that for the exact same term).

Those Dirty, Rotten Taxes

I don't really know how unethical it is, but it was definitely a brilliant way to screw the blue states with minimal harm to red ones. Of course if I lived in a blue state I may feel differently about the ethics of it. -
Fox News is normalizing porn stars.

Trump can be the biggest scumbag ever and it won't matter as long as he continues to appoint Conservative judges from that pre-approved list whatever Conservative Think Tank put together for him. Conservatives have made their Faustian deal and I doubt they're regretting it at this point. The GOP has managed to be the party of Jesus uber alles while also being the party of guns, war, screwing over the poor, and polluting the environment for decades. Throwing one more instance of hypocrisy onto the pile isn't going to make them think twice. -
In their eyes there's no such thing as a wrong Swede. Especially the left handed variety that play defense.

It's a great statement, because it gets the point across so succinctly. Hot and muggy weather irritates the hell out of me. I'm surprised there aren't more stabbings in places like Florida Mississippi, Louisiana, etc.

Do you drive like Ace Ventura with your head sticking out the window? Because if not, you're at least feeling the breeze when you ride a bike. I had my previous car for 15 years. I would have kept it for even longer but the AC died and I traded it in that very weekend. I can deal with lots of stuff but not having AC will never be one of them. Life's too shot to be that uncomfortable. Being in a hot humid environment with no relief makes me stabby (to loosely steal a quote from inkman, we've, or whomever I stole it from).

Playoff Drought ULTIMATE JAG WARRIOR: Snuggerud Division

Any room for Danny O'Regan or is there some sore of minimum games or minimum numbers of months/years you need to be with the organization before this honor can be bestowed upon them? Or is it like the hall of fame where we have to wait until they've moved on to even become eligible. -
I think he belongs in Eleven's JAG contest, although he probably hasn't been in the organization long enough.

Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
Drunkard replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
Evangelicals seem happy enough to look the other way in exchange for Conservative judges. The moment Trump agreed to only select judges from their pre-approved list they hitched their wagons to him. I doubt they're unhappy with the results so far. -
Conky's awesome! They need to fish him out of the lake, no matter how mangled.
-
Can you read, my son? That depends, can you go f#$% yourself?!
-
It would be funnier if you mooned them all as they walked by, but they'd probably kick you out for that.
-
I'll take Doug Ford then. Especially if he's got the same crack habit that his brother did.
-
I'd trade our guy for Rob Ford, even though he's dead.
-
Definitely. When a certain somebody took office they actually rescinded those higher income limits to require overtime but a lot of companies (including my girlfriend's employer, Dunkin Donuts) kept them in place even though they didn't have to. I've always personally preferred being hourly based on the jobs I've worked but back in college I used to load trucks for a Budweiser wholesaler and it was the best of both worlds. We got paid hourly and made time and a half for anything over 40 hours a week, but if we managed to get the job done in less than 40 hours that week, they still paid us for the full 40.
-
I'll trade you our President for your PM any day of the week.

The cap continues to rise though. Eventually someone will make more than McDavid. If he thinks Toronto will match it no matter what it may not even matter. From the reports he's not even necessarily expecting to get Matthews, maybe he just wants to screw over his old team for signing Tavares.
-
You're right but it's not out of the realm of possibilities. Especially if Toronto wants to cap him at $11 million AAV to match Tavares and Lou decides to pay him more than McDavid's $12.5 million. If he prefers a longer deal, Lou could still offer him up to 7 years. Either way, not a bad way to exact some revenge if Lou is still feeling bitter and Matthews makes it to RFA status.
-
Don't you DARE buy a Casey Mittelstadt jersey or I will personally hunt you down and cut your taint. Just kidding (sort of).
-
It really depends on the employer and how everything is set up. My girlfriend got switched to hourly and it was the best thing that could have happened for her. She's a store manager so before she got switched they overworked the hell out of her, dragged their feet allowing her to promote shift leaders, and all kinds of messed up stuff.
-
Still, if Matthews gets to RFA status and Lou is still pissed he can still screw Toronto by offering him a 4 year deal at huge money. If he signs, Toronto only has the option to match it or take the compensation and that would put Matthews into UFA status at 25 years of age.
