  1. I know Eichel is signed for 8 more years. I'd just rather not waste half of it waiting for Patrik Berglund's contract to come off the books. Very few non-goalie players get better after the age of 30. The best we can probably hope for is their production to plateau which would still put most of them as overpaid relative to their production. I would have rather gone full bore with the youth movement rather than overpay for a handful of aging veterans. Guys like that are almost always available and usually for much cheaper than we paid for them.
  2. This. Trump made the GOP his b*tch and they'll continue to accept it while he polls well within the party and he continues to push the bulk of their agenda. The Democrats would be wise to STFU about impeachment and get their @sses to the polls in November instead of wasting their time protesting and acting like the PC police on the internet. The Democrats have almost no chance to take control of the Senate given the seats that will be up for grabs, their best hope is to win control of the House in order to minimize any further damage the GOP can do. I heard they've got another tax cut on the horizon coming to help the uber wealthy and provide some more red meat to the GOP donor base as well. Apparently paying the lower capital gains rate on profits isn't enough, they want to be able to write off the amount of inflation against their gains. A tax cut like that would allow 99% of the benefits to go to the wealthy. Something tells me I'll still have the claim the whopping $10 in interest I earn from my credit union though. That's the GOP for you. Unfortunately the Democrats suck at voting so I expect the GOP to remain in full power.
  3. Meh, I like guys who didn't get captured. Can I be President next? All kidding aside, RIP Senator McCain. I appreciate his thumbs down vote on the Affordable Care Act repeal. I'm sure they'll try it again though.
  4. I agree with LTS. Too many people in power have looked the other way and swept stuff under the rug, most likely to protect the name of the Church and to keep donations rolling in. People can do whatever they want and pray to whatever they wish but giving money to an organization that corrupt is only going to continue to encourage them to keep business as usual. The Catholic Church needs a reformation because the only thing that's going to stop this criminal activity at this point is empty pews and empty coffers. I hope I'm alive to see it, but given that they've been corrupt for centuries, I'll be dead and gone a long time before they get their act together. I'm not a fan of religion in general but I will say I like Francis a heck of a lot more than either of his predecessors (which is almost blasphemous given my Slavic heritage and what a hard on my family had for John Paul II). I still wish nothing but bad things for all churches and I hope all the negative publicity continues to make religious less important in the lives of the citizenry. Maybe once that happens we can move forward as a society rather than clinging to a bronze age book full of bigotry, misogyny, and hockum.
  5. Did anyone catch our Commander in Chief coloring the flag wrong? He should have cheated by looking at the flag pin on his lapel instead of trying to copy off that 5 year old girl (I'm guessing).
  6. Splitting hairs there. I could have easily said when Eichel is 24 and Reinhart is 25. The point is we didn't need to add a bunch of veterans to multi year deals. Guys like that could have been acquired for cheaper than our second best player. We wasted the ELCs of a bunch of good young players already (Ristolainen, Eichel, and Reinhart) and the clock is ticking on the cheap years of Dahlin and Mittelstadt. I just don't like the idea of passively waiting around for the next crop of dead wood and their contracts to age off the roster.
  7. I don't see it as a good thing at all. Most of them aren't coming off the books anytime soon. Okposo has 5 years remaining on his contract (and he's already 30). Berglund has 4 years remaining (and he's already 30). Hunwick has 2 years remaining (33 now). Sobotka has 2 years remaining (31 now). Pominville (35 now) is the only one coming off the books after another year other than Moulson who is already basically gone so I didn't bother to list him to begin with. We don't need guys like that taking up cap space when Eichel is 25, Reinhart is 26, and Dahlin and Mittelstadt are no longer on ELCs. If the team wanted to add some veterans to the roster there were other ways to do it than trading away the most consistent player we had who was in his prime and his contract didn't extend into a bunch of declining years, who also happened to be our most defensively capable forward, and our best face off guy. If you want experience on the roster that badly overpay some aging FA veterans to 1 year deals or trade some mid or low round picks for expiring deals to teams who need the cap space.
  8. I guess it's good that we unloaded O'Reilly for that basket of lesser old guys. Between Berglund, Sobotka, Pominville, Hunwick, and Okposo we're really starting to fill out the team with declining veterans.
  9. It's a shame he doesn't have a mediocre contract to match his seasons.
  10. Indeed. All 3 of them. Using the term handful was being overly generous.
  11. Well, that was a sh*t show. I probably wouldn't have even tuned in but a buddy of mine came over to watch so I felt obligated. My thoughts on the matter can be summarized below: The o-line sucks Allen sucks McGinger and his puppet of a boss both suck for going into this season with a crappy offensive line and no veteran QB to sacrifice behind it. This is going to be a long season.
  12. I think the people who are optimistic and/or quite excited about Allen are severe optimists and probably need to reduce the milligrams on their Prozac because it's annoying how they like to paint all detractors with the same stupid brush. For the record I preferred Rosen but I would've kept Taylor as well and wouldn't have played Rosen until he beat out Taylor for the starting job (or Taylor got injured). I haven't watched any preseason games, training camp highlights, or any of the Bills propaganda they've been pumping out though. I'll wait and see how it goes once the games actually matter. I'm not optimistic but I don't need a hug and I hope the idiots at One Bills Drive prove me wrong because in the end, I root for the laundry, not the knuckleheads wearing it.
  13. 2005-2006 was a better team with much better uniforms than that fugly slug. Plus I live in NC so that would also mean that the handful of Canes fans I know wouldn't be able to hold a Stanley Cup victory over my head since us winning it means they didn't.
  14. A guy walks into his house carrying a duck in his arm. He walks into the kitchen where his wife is sitting at the table. The guy says "And this is the pig I used to f-ck". His wife says, honey, that's a duck". The husband says, I know, I was talking to the duck.
  15. A ton of cheese can sometimes make it feel like there's not enough sauce on the pizza though, so it's important to maintain a balance. I enjoy Buffalo style pizza and whenever I go up there I make sure to eat pizza at least twice. Then again we usually went to pizza places for Mexican food as well, so we went to a lot of pizza joints. My neck of the woods is mostly filled with chain restaurants but there are a few places that make good pizza. My rule of thumb is to only go to places that either have an Italian name or they need to reference New York in some way (NY Pizzeria, Big Apple Pizza, Brooklyn Pizza, etc.). It's NYC style but that's as good as we can get since there's no place that serves Buffalo style pizza in my area. Anything else and you might as well buy some frozen tombstones.
  16. Let's hope. I'd feel a hell of a lot better about the defense if Bogosian is actually healthy and playing well. The right side is thin with him so if he gets hurt again after 10 games we'll either have to move Dahlin over to his off hand or we're going to be icing minor leaguers on the right side.
  17. For me it's because the Bills traded the quarterback who got them to the playoffs and the fact that they needed an abnormally high turnover differential to even get there. Whatever QB replaces Taylor likely won't have his propensity to avoid turnovers. The Sabres have already hit rock bottom so there's really no where to go but up. Plus they have a mother f'ing God on the roster in Casey Mittelstadt. No brainer.
  18. Or he may just enjoy doing crystal meth.
  19. James Carville once said Pennsylvania is basically Alabama with Pittsburgh on one side and Philadelphia on the other. My guess is that the guy is from the Alabama part but is slightly closer to the Philly end so he chose the Eagles.
  20. He should pray to become a better quarterback.
  21. His best role was Flirty Harry in Inappropriate comedy. Hilarious stuff. His bits were nothing more than a bunch of sex puns, but I appreciate it when respected actors take part in movies like that.
  22. I was never a big fan of Manson growing up in my teens or 20's, but he puts on a good show when he isn't having a meltdown and he's got some gnarly songs. I've seen a couple of their shows because they happened to be playing with Slayer and I was glad I got to see them because before that I would have never paid money to see a Manson show. I would pony up now though. Plus whenever Manson is playing the people watching factor ramps up 10 fold.
  23. He can't help it, man. Guy spends half his time clubbing rats in the basement while huffing paint and the other half pretending to know bird law while huffing paint. He doesn't have time to learn about cult leaders that died probably around 10 years before he was born. Heck it was only 3 years before I was born and I probably would have never heard of it if it wasn't for that Anthrax song that came on out Attack of the Killer B's in the early 90's.
  24. I wish I had passed on my solar panels. Even with a tax break of 30% of the cost coming from Federal and 35% of the cost coming in a tax rebate from NC, at roughly $50 saved per month in electricity it's going to take me almost a dozen years to break even on the damn things.
