  1. From the guys listed: Deslauriers - good 4th liner Ennis - good effort and drive can play on the wing when we get better centers and can fill in at center in a pinch Girgensons - no explanation needed Kaleta - good 4th liner McCormick - good 4th liner Moulson - will be good with a better center Stewart - tough and has talent. Hopefully he'll play better surrounded with better players Gorges - good pairing with Myers Myers - good pairing with Gorges Weber - sticks up for team mates and a good bottom pair or 7th D-man to have if he's not asked to do too much
  2. I love this board. Myers with marfans and now this. Funny stuff. For the record I don't think Hodgson has any disease or physical condition. I think he just plays crappy defense and now that he's not scoring it makes his chappy defense even more noticeable.
  3. I can't speak for others but I feel bad for Nolan because he has to try to make chicken salad out of chicken ###### every night. Sure he knew the team was bad when he signed on but it's still the NHL and the fact that he was coaching in freaking Latvia shows how much he really wants to coach hockey and the chance to coach it at the highest level is an opportunity he couldn't pass up. It's an uphill battle for sure and he definitely doesn't have these guys firing on all cylinders but he's doing what he can with what he's got.
  4. I hear you, man. I'm 33 so we are probably close to the same age. As a kid I loved them all but the older I've gotten it's become more about the team than the individual players. Seeing someone like Miller or Pominville raising the cup for another team wouldn't mean much to me personally even though I'd be happy for them and I was happy to see Hasek raise the cup for Detroit even though I was pissed when he left. I root for the Sabres and the Sabres alone and besides that I root for our interests (against the NYI and Blues) and I root for the other bottom feeders to do well and give us breathing room at the bottom. Other than that I just root against teams that I hate (Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Dallas, etc.) And I only hate them because of past history with the Sabres.
  5. I've basically just been voting out everybody but one person from each group, although looking at my other votes I think I voted out every one from the top group so I may need to delete my votes and recast to keep Grier. I absolutely loved Hasek while he was here and think he was the greatest goalie of all time. Because of the way he left though I can't vote him my favorite and with no Rob Ray in that group I voted for Brad May. I guess it's sour grapes but it's how I feel about it. I've been voting out Briere and Drury too for the same reasons. I loved them while they were here but they left for greener pastures so ######'em.
  6. Any particular pick that you're taking exception to or do you want me to explain every vote?
  7. It's much easier to add pieces when you have the nucleus in place. A last place finish this year guarantees us a top center, plus we already have a good 3rd line center in Girgensons. Between Reinhart and Grigorenko one of them should pan out to be a great 2nd line center within the next 2 years. On defense we have Gorges, Myers, Ristolainen, Zadarov, Psysk, McCabe which should all but guarantee us at least a decent to very good top 4. Moulson should return to form playing with a guy like Eichel plus we have Ennis and plenty of guys in the pipeline who have potential to fill in on the wings and guys like Gionta and Hodgson to fill in for the mean time. Neuvirth has shown to be solid and should improve with a better team in front of him. It should be much easier to improve the ancillary pieces once we have our top 3 centers and 4 defensemen in place which it seems we will have once the Draft takes place.
  8. I think this season is truly the lowest of the low. Finishing with the worst record in the league for a second straight season makes things seem like this abyss will go on indefinitely but if even half of our pipeline pans out this team will be much improved over the next couple of seasons. Underachievers and guys like Stafford, Hodgson, Meszaros, Benoit, and Foligno can be moved out, traded, or demoted to make room for guys like Grigorenko, Armia, Carrier or Larsson, Psysk, and McCabe. Prospects like Reinhart, Baptiste, and Bailey will be old enough to move up to Rochester, plus there are still guys like Compher, Hurley, and Fasching that are developing in the NCAA that may be ready to make the jump to either the AHL or NHL. Throw in a true top line center like Eichel who will immediately become our best player and we can't possibly be worse next season. Having a center lineup of Eichel, Grigorenko, Girgensons, and McCormick or Larsson with a guy like Reinhart waiting in the wings looks pretty good to me and they should play well being slotted where they belong instead of being forced to play on lines above their talent level. Our defensive pairs should finally be solid with Myers and Gorges, Ristolainen and Zadarov, and McCabe and Psysk with Weber as a reserve. This could potentially look much better and I don't see how they could possibly look any worse.
  9. I stand corrected. Lots of boozing back in those days, so I'll blame it on the beer.

    Kaleta

He's definitely a heart & soul or blood & guts type of player and I'm happy to see him back as well.
  11. I agree. I wouldn't do it for Mantha but I've give up that kind of haul for O'Reilly since he has proven it in the big leagues. We'd probably have to sweeten the pot a little more though.
  12. I'm just glad the next census year (2020) will be during another Presidential election year. The gerrymandering is so incredibly skewed towards the Republicans because of the last one that it will be difficult for the Democrats to take control of the house again until the next redistricting.
  13. Yep. Then he followed it up by calling the fans who took exception to his comments "mouse potatoes" or something to that effect.
  14. Drunkard

    Kaleta

I'll take the over. Kaleta has had some bad luck with injuries but if the rest of the team played with half the heart that he showed this team wouldn't be able to tank. The reckless abandon he plays with is fun to watch and will definitely make games more interesting with him in the lineup.
  15. Yes, he did. That was before he became cemented as a member of the core though and before he made his "we've got guys for that comment" when he was interviewed about defending teammates after another incident regarding someone on our team getting cheapshotted (not sure if it was the Lucic-Miller incident or another one). He has defended a teammate since then but it's not exactly common.
  16. The problem is that you're thinking about things logically and you can't do that if you want to understand the right wing nutjob mindset. You have to look at everything through the guise that left wingers are trying to tip over the apple cart of everything you love. They want to take your guns, take away Christmas, and make abortion not just legal but mandatory. Saul Alinsky gave Obama a very clear directive and he will do his best to ensure that it will happen. Oh and job creators are the lovechild of Jesus and Reagan (but not in any gay or sciencey type way). We must cut their taxes because giving them more money than they can ever possibly spend will lead to a booming economcy as the rest of us get to pick up the loose change they accidentally drop from their overflowing coffers.
  17. Immigration, the Keystone Pipeline, and women having the audacity to have sex for fun by using birth control are my 3 best guesses. Or they can go back to an oldie but goodie and dredge up Benghazi again bit they'll probably save that for when Hillary announces she's running.
  18. Myers, any forward on our team or in our system not named Samson or Zemgus, and St. Louis's 1st round pick. Any chance they'd bite on that or at least shoot a counter offer before hanging up?
  19. It happened one time maybe 5 years ago when I visited Buffalo. Some buddies and I made a trip up there and the Bills were playing the Jets in Toronto on Thursday night and the Sabres were playing Philly I believe. We went to Duffs in OP and watched both games. The Sabres game was already half way over before kickoff though.
  20. Definitely. Right now we have some sandpaper on the 4th line, we have Zadarov, Weber, and Stewart and that's it. Foligno hasn't shown much in the toughness or skill department and we have to pin our hopes to a guy like Lemieux for any hope of true grit in the top 6. I imagine a guy like Eichel would fit the bill as well. From what I've read about him he seems like the type of player who wouldn't get pushed around or let his teammates get pushed around either but hopefully we'll get a chance to find out because even if we finish last I don't see us winning the lottery.
  21. Yeah there should have been a bigger response from those guys. Girgensons plays tough and I love his non-stop motor but he doesn't seem to be the type to drop the gloves in defense of a teammate. We've seen Myers fight but he doesn't seem to do it in defense of his team either. I sure wouldn't normally expect anything physical out of a guy like Moulson but if Ennis can do it then guys like Girgensons, Moulson, and Myers should offer more than a token response like they did.
  22. This team is way too soft. Ennis has more fight in him than most of the "tough" guys on this team. Everyone rips on Weber but he's one of the few guys who sticks up for his teammates with more than a token clutch and grab like Myers and Gaustad are good for. If we're gonna field a team with little to no talent we need to pick up some more guys who will throw their bodies around and put up a fight against other players. Loved the response from Zadarov and Ennis. The rest of the bunch can pound sand. I'm sick of guys like Myers and Foligno.
  23. I agree with all of this other than preferring McCormick at center until Larsson can find some form of offensive games at the NHL level. Eichel would be our stud and instantly become our best player and top line center. Grigorenko gets the more sheltered minutes on scoring line 2 and Girgensons gets the the tougher defensive assignments ala Drury while Reinhart develops in the AHL. Once Reinhart is ready we'd finally have the problem of more legitimate centers than spots so we can either put Reinhart on the wing in the top 6, or pair him with Girgensons since he's supposed to be pretty responsible defensively. It'll be a nice problem to finally have but I'd lean towards putting Reinhart at center and Girgensons on his wing since I think Girgensons is capable of playing just fine along the boards at wing.
  24. I guess I should've said realistically rather than ideally. And for now, I'd prefer McCormick at center over Larsson. His ability to score all but completely disappears when he's up with the big club so I'd prefer him on the wing with less defensive responsibility so he can hopefully get his offense going.
  25. Maybe he'll play well at the pivot and boost his trade value. Other than that I've got nothing. This team has been painfully short of legitimate centers since 7/1/07 but within the next 1-2 years we'll finally be able to turn the tide and have 4 legitimate centers playing center and a couple of guys capable of playing center on the wings. Ideally Eichel, Grigorenko, Reinhart, and McCormick will be our 4 centers and guys like Ennis and Hodgson will shift to wing or be moved. Girgensons seems like he can play anywhere but I'd love to put him on Reinhart's wing once he is ready to move up to the big club. I'd like to see Reinhart play with Rochester next year and develop until he shows he's too good to play in the AHL and let Girgensons center the 3rd line in the meantime. Eichel plays top line from the start and Grigorenko and Armia get the more sheltered minutes with the second line.
