  1. You've got to factor in things like cost of living and taxes as well. I currently make in the low 30's and am able to get by living in Eastern NC. I consider myself poor but actual poor people would probably laugh at that statement. I don't go without anything but I've also traditionally been good at saving in the past so I currently have no debt except my house.
  2. It was just an example. Besides, as it was already stated Defense spending is more of a jobs program than anything else which makes it nearly impossible to slash. It would be nice to taper off the increase until our defense spending is more in line with other developed nations but I don't see that happening either, especially while we are constantly involved in conflicts half way across the globe.
  3. It's extremely pie in the sky thinking (unfortunately) but I just wish they could find a way to compromise and actually get things done. Do a tit for tat scenario if necessary. Democrats agree to allow the Keystone Pipeline as long as Republicans agree to raise the minimum wage. Democrats agree to boost defense spending and Republicans agree on a path to citizenship for existing illegal immigrants.
  4. It is a sensitive area after all.
  5. It may be 3 lotteries but I read somewhere that the percentage of balls in the lottery or however they do it is still determined by record for the past 3 seasons instead of just the most recent one.
  6. Even with the tank unofficially over after this season we should still stand a decent chance to draft high in 2016. I believe they weight your finishes of the 3 most recent seasons which would put us with the worst record from 2013-2014, a bottom feeder record this year, and however we'd finish up next year which even with a top 2 pick in this draft should be a bottom 10 finish next year.
  7. Because of the realignment and new playoff structure. 3 teams from each division make the playoffs with the other 2 teams in each conference being able to come from either division. If you pull up the standings on NHL.com you can sort by division, wild card, and league.
  8. I wouldn't trade for O'Reilly until this summer and it would definitely have to be a case where we'd have to have a long term extension in place prior to trading him. He's good, no doubt, and he could definitely help us but based on his track record I see him wanting to reach free agency and go to the highest bitter. No point in trading valuable assets for him unless we could get him locked up long term.
  9. Great night so far in CHL. Now we just need Phoenix to lose and it would be close to a perfect night for the tank.
  10. There's no room for goal scorers on this team. Maybe the Blackhawks will draft him.
  11. I don't think Deslauriers is going anyway because he has been solid and he was brought in by Murray in the McNabb trade. He has enough of Darcy's guys to weed out to keep him busy.
  12. This roster is definitely worse this year than last year by a long shot. Miller/Enroth is much better than Enroth/Neuvirth Ott played much better last year than Gionta has this year. Gorges was a solid addition but he's basically replaced Ehrhoff who was our best defenseman by a country mile. I think losing Ehrhoff has been the biggest loss of all. Last year we had Tallinder and McBain who stunk but are still better than Meszaros and Benoit. While getting some decent play (at times) from Ristolainen, Zadarov, Mitchell, and Strachan it hasn't been enough to make up for the level of play that we lost when guys like Miller, Ott, Ehrhoff, etc got moved out. Much of the rest of the roster is the same or equivalent (Vanek/Moulson to Moulson)
  13. Was supposed to be sunk cost since like you said you've already paid for your tickets this year, but if it works, run with it.
  14. Just think of it as an suck cost investment with the potential for better future gains. If we get a generational talent like McDavid you should be able to sell your tickets for any games you won't be able to attend in the future for more money.
  15. You have to delete your old vote first. Edit: Nevermind. I deleted my old votes, made my new ones, and it gave me an error message.
  16. It's the truth. His marfans creates a vortex of good microbes to protect everyone in his vicinity and once he got hurt something had to replace the vacuum that resulted and we can only prognosticate that it was filled with aids and super parasites leaving the remaining teammates exposed an vulnerable to injury and sickness. Or it could just all be coincidence but where's the fun in that?
  17. I'll be staying home for this one. Too much money charged to my cc from xmas to justify all those $10 beers when it's better for us to lose anyway. The 300's definitely tend to be the rowdiest though, along with the smoking sections, although I've been kicked out from the lower bowl a handful of times as well. Have fun in the Chet and Muffy section, man, and shout something offensive about Dale Earnhart on my behalf if the you feel it in the moment. Maybe between baby carcasses or something.
  18. The team may stink right now, but they definitely work their ###### off on the PR side of things which is all you can ask for from the non-hockey guys. I forgot to add that when he sent me the towels way back when he included a hand written note on Sabres stationary. Class act stuff for sure. When I showed it to my Mom (the person I gave the second towel to) she went and picked up a frame for it so I could hang it on the wall with all the other Bills and Sabres stuff I have everywhere.
  19. I emailed Ted Black directly and asked him if he could send me one or two. I offered to pay for them and the shipping. He responded 10 minutes later with the following email from his iphone: "Let me see if I can get my grubby hands on a couple. Best regards, TNB" Back when Pegula first bought the team they handed out some white towels with Sabres logos printed on them and the date Pegula closed on the sales or something along those lines and he mailed me a couple for free. The club may not be winning but they seem to take customer services and fan appreciation to heart for sure.
  20. Probably PETA's influence on Randy Johnson. They are still upset about that bird he killed with that pitch way back when.
  21. If Hodgson only plays well when his team plays well and he disappears when his team is struggling then why did he lead the Sabres in points last year despite missing 10 games when the Sabres were the worst team in the league by a long shot? Right now, Hodgson isn't producing offense and he has never played solid defense. That's enough to be frustrated with. No reason to invent an additional narrative based on misinformation to not like him.
  22. He got suspended for 3 games in 2012 as well for a hit on Gomez. He definitely has had his share of injuries but he hasn't exactly been Tim Connolly either.
  23. Yes, he's missed some serious time with injuries over the years but not every one of those missed games was an injury though. If my memory serves me he's been healthy scratched a handful of times and suspended at least once or twice over the years. Plus the 2 years you failed to list he played 80 and 82 games.
  24. Keeping Myers gives us a decent top pairing of Gorges/Myers and allows Zadarov/Ristolainen to grow together without being heavily relied upon before they are ready. Injuries happen from time to time, especially in an 82 game season, but I wouldn't call him injury prone at this point.
  25. Dallas is currently 20th in the league at 42 points, 11 ahead of us currently. Ideally I'd like every team in the league to have a 10 point or greater lead over us which would allow us to stay at the bottom even if we put together a winning streak of 5 games. Even optimistically though, it's gonna be a while before teams like Jersey, Philly, and Phoenix are able to get there and doubtful if teams like Carolina and Edmonton ever will.
