And Chara got no punishment for intentionally injuring Pacioretty and almost breaking the guy's neck and to top it off couldn't even be considered a repeat offender because he received no punishment for the incident. The people in charge of this league have absolutely shown bias and favoritism for certain teams and since all they show is some cards being turned around I find no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume everything will be on the up and up.

So what makes them any more deserving of top picks in that instance? I'd argue that stinking up the joint for a couple of years with the idea of contending down the road is a much better plan than than some rich old guy icing a crummy team because he's too cheap to pay for better players. Either way you are looking at icing a bad team on purpose but under the tank approach at least it's supposed to be temporary.

I despise Boston more than any other team/city but I would be scared shitless about Bettman and Campbell fixing the lottery to let them win it if they somehow miss the playoffs.
-
I agree. This year is special because there are 2 generational type talents and finishing last guarantees you one of them. The entire rebuild/tank has never been about 1 player though and it's not just about McDavid or Eichel either. It's about getting at least 2 elite level talents to build the rest of the improved team around. Look at just about every team who has won the cup in the last decade and they have had at least 2 elite players that the team is essentially built around. They don't have to come from the top 5 of the draft (Red Wings, Bruins, Ducks) but often they do (Blackhawks, Penguins, Kings). We potentially got one last year in Reinhart and most of us are hoping that we'll get an even better one this year in McEichel. Those two elite players with a supporting cast of Kane, Ennis, Girgensons, Moulson, Bogosian, Ristolainen, Zadorov, etc. along with any other moves that may be planned will hopefully put us into contender status but at the very least will complete the rebuild and get us back to respectability.

I'm gonna adopt 2 sons and name them Dajuan and Daotherjuan.

Screw Strom, when is the last time you saw a baby named Larry? In 40 years once the old ones have died off we're not going to have anyone left named Larry. Oh well. My main issue with it besides causing the kid problems down the road is the whole "my kid i a special little snowflake that has to have a unique name so nobody else in any of his or her classes will ever have the same name as him or her". We get it folks. Your kid is special, just like everybody elses. I read an article years back about a family that got taken to court for naming their daughter V a g i n a Davis and the judge made them change it to Virginia Davis luckily. He should have also made the parent's change their names to Mr. And Mrs. Dipshit McF u c k wad and Self-righteous Cuntface just to see how they like it when going to the bank, the DMV, the airport, and other places that require showing identification.
-
It's not necessarily racist. Some people just have a problem with people giving their kids weird names whether it's a black couple naming their kid something translated from Swahili or a hippie couple naming their kid moonbeam. All races do it and I personally believe it's stupid because it has the potential to put the kid at a disadvantage in life. 20 years from now some HR rep is going to be looking at the resumes of these now adults. With other things being equal are they going to call the guy named Steve and the woman named Rachel or the people named Moonbeam and Oranjello?
-
What if you hate these new white American names too? Kyle, Dylan, Cody, etc. In the immortal words of George Carlin "soft names make for soft people". Along with " Tucker. Tucker sucks".

revisiting an old topic, top players (forward) now?
Drunkard replied to mjd1001's topic in The Aud Club
Based on age I'd take Stamkos but if injuries and age were not part of the equation I take Crosby. Ovechkin is awesome but I place too much value on the center position to name a winger a the best or most desirable player. -
Yeah we are chock full of lefties. Reinhart is right handed and if we end up getting Eichel he is right handed but that's it for our top 6 or if you look at top 9 you can include Gionta.
-
Ok, now what happens if we manage to hold on to 30th and get McDavid or Eichel? Do one of those guys get shifted to wing or does O'Reilly? Does Reinhart stay at center? Who gets bumped to the 3rd line?
-
Where does his slot in for us though? That's what Murray should be concerned with and it should dictate how much he would offer in a trade and how much he would be willing to pay him. I don't think he's worth it for us but I guess we'll see this summer.
-
I agree. Not only will it cost a ton in assets but he's going to demand $7+ million per year for most of the next decade and if we are somehow able to get McEichel he'd be our 3 line center or play left wing where we already have Kane, Moulson, Ennis, Foligno, and Deslauriers. I'd pass on him too.
-
I went with option 2 but I wouldn't necessarily go that far or try to make it that obvious. Hackett would get his games and depending on how he looks I'd make sure they are against Phoenix and Toronto in particular. Any good player with any sort of actual injury would be shut down to avoid aggravating it and at that point I'd let the chips fall where they may unless we keep winning while Edmonton and Phoenix keep losing. At that point mysterious injuries and illnesses may spring up to key players. I'd sent Irbe on vacation to the Bermuda Triangle until next fall as well and then offer him a big raise and extension when he comes back.

What is the equivalent low to a Stanley Cup high?
Drunkard replied to Stoner's topic in The Aud Club
Wow. You take your sports way too seriously if you can even fathom comparing anything sports related to the inverse feeling of watching family die. It's not even close to relatable and this is coming from a guy who has a Bills tattoo on one shoulder and a Sabres tattoo on the other. -
The Coyotes are in equal control though because just as we supposedly control our ability to lose out, so do they which means it's basically up for grabs. The fact that we are currently in the lead doesn't mean they don't control their own destiny because the potential 4 point swing in those 2 games is enough to erase their 3 point deficit. Both teams are in control of their own destiny, ignoring Edmonton at the moment.

Irbe needs to be sent to the Bermuda triangle on vacation until this upcoming fall and then given a lifetime contract upon his return. He may be screwing up the tank right now, but he'll be valuable in the coming years.
-
Irbe needs to sent on vacation until next fall. We run the serious risk of finishing 3rd in the CHL and possibly drafting 4th. I wonder if Murray prefers Marner or Strome because there's a chance we don't even get Hanifin.

No worries. That just sticks out in my mind because I remember the Republicans having a cow about Obama's response. Then years later how it played out exactly how the debate question was posed and Obama followed through on how he said he do it and it worked. If McCain had won we'd probably still be paying Pakistan billions of dollars each year for them to help us "search" for Bin Laden.
-
That was said during the debate with McCain after Hillary and all of the other candidates except for Obama and McCain were out of the race.
-
I've never been a fan of Hillary but I'd vote for her over who the Republicans would likely put up against her. I'd rather see Elizabeth Warren win the nomination for the Democrats though.
-
It's a good thing he does. Imagine how stacked Shittsburgh would be if they had selected Eric Staal instead of Fleury. They probably never would have traded Jordan Staal either so they could've possibly had a center lineup of Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Staal or traded one of those guys for a plethora of good players to fill out the rest of their roster.

I like Kaleta and think Murray resigns him. Schaller doesn't bring the guts or toughness that Kaleta does. I also see no need to replace Weber. He's good as a 3rd pairing defenseman and stands up for his teammates and allows us to keep McCabe developing in Rochester and have him as a depth call up in case someone in our top 6 gets injured. If we dump Weber and give McCabe a spot in the top 6 who do we call up from Rochester when there's an injury?
-
I'd buy out Cy Hgsn at 1/3 and give his roster spot to Grigorenko. Kane McEichel Ennis Moulson Girgensons Reinhart Foligno Grigorenko Gionta Deslauriers McCormick Kaleta Larsson Gorges Bogosian Zadorov Ristolainen Weber Psysk Neuvirth/FA Johnson or Lindback Allows Reinhart to break in at wing and keeps each rookie paired up with other veterans.
