Factor in the numbers of black males who are put in prison though and it definitely makes an impact. Prisons have turned into just another money making venture and the number of people (disproportionately minorities) in prison, particularly for non-violent offenses is bad and getting worse.

It is a great show. John Lithgow is an awesome actor although I really only remember him from 3rd Rock, season 4 of Dexter, and Harry and the Hendersons. I need to IMDB him and see what other roles he's played.

They need to increase the size of the net and enforce the rules like interference that are already on the books if they want scoring to increase. Goalies are getting bigger and so are their pads, yet the net has stayed the same size. You can't shrink people and trying to shrink goalie pads will be blocked by safety concerns which leaves increasing the size of the net and forcing the referees to call the game differently.

Shouldn't your crazy neighbor lady have to pay for half of the exterminator? If you have termites they are likely on both sides of the duplex so there's probably no way to tell which side of the property they originated on.

My girlfriend and I are doing that with re-watching the entire 3rd rock from the Sun series. It's on Netflix and hulu plus although Netflix is better with the no commercials. Not a bad way to spend an evening staying in when you are caught up on everything from the dvr. Before we starting re-watching it I don't think I had seen the show in 10 years and it's still funny.

Not to get all uber liberal about it, but that's not always possible when you have a single parent who has to work 2 or 3 part time jobs at crappy hours to make ends meet and keep a roof over your head because many employers don't offer full time hours or want to offer benefits.

How about the Doomsday Preppers? From my understanding every Mormon is supposed to stockpile food, batteries, bottled water, and stuff like that to prepare for the apocalypse. Make me wonder ifany of Joseph Smith's early followers had stock in Campbell's Soup, Chef Boyardee, or whoever make Spam.

If by second class you mean hard working, blue collar, and full of compete while bringing their lunch pail into work with them on a daily basis, then I'd say you are definitely correct. Something something non-stop motor as well.

Hossa seems to be aging like fine wine but he's bound to hit the wall eventually. He's already 36 and is under contract until 20-21. If he retired early though wouldn't the bulk of his salary cap recapture actually fall on Chicago though, since they signed him to his contract? If that's the case, I'd be willing to take a chance on him now and if he decides to retire make Chicago give up something good to minimize the cap recapture penalty just before he retires.

Hackett is gone from the Sabres and likely has no NHL if I had to guess. Some team will probably offer him a two way contract but I imagine he'll be stuck in the minors and likely retire early if his track record for injury keeps pace. The Sabres have other options in net so he won't really be missed.

I entered the Bracket Challenge on the NHL app but didn't join the group for this board and I also picked Chicago over the Rangers. I had Chi over Ana in the West and NYR over TB in the east for the Conference Finals picks. The TB pick isn't looking so good right now but the others seem ok at this point.

Just throw an "I s_hit you not" in there. It'll get the same point across.

Very interesting take and having a finance/econ/accounting background I appreciate the Beta reference and it definitely has some merit. Glad to have you back, Ghost. Hopefully you manage to avoid the ban hammer going forward because this place is more interesting when you are around.

I see Larsson playing LW on the 3rd line with Grigorenko centering and Gionta at RW. With the talent the Sabres have finally seemed to acquire I don't think there's a place for him in the top 6 other than as an injury replacement or temporary fill in if one of the top 6 guys is benched or temporarily demoted.

I think using compete as a noun still tops the list. Followed by the whole blue collar mantra but they kind of get used together from what I've noticed over the years. Buffalo is such a blue collar town (even though it's really not anymore) that they really appreciate the hard working, lunch pail, high "compete" types that rely on effort and their non-stop motors to make up for a lack of skill. It's like the Sabres are icing 20 Chris Kelsays in the lineup. Another cliché I'd like to see go the way of the dodo is people pretending like whether a person is left or right handed just doesn't matter. Sure we're all stocked up down the left wing but we should still try to trade for every single left handed center and wing that we could possibly find. Just because some players (Ennis is a good example) can play wing on their off hand doesn't mean every player can do it effectively and certainly doesn't mean they should go out of their way to make the problem worse by going after more lefties and forcing even more players to their off hand. Even if they can do it, it doesn't mean they're as effective that way. Ennis would probably be better off at LW but since we're stacked on the left and barren on the right he plays there, not because it's his optimum position.

Your Profession - Maybe There Are Connections To Be Made!

I think he dabbled in Marine Biology when he was trying to explain the shrinkage factor. -
Buttermints (I always knew them as after dinner mints but from a google search they appear to be the same thing) and ribbon candy. Those things must be given out standard issue to every Grandmother. Maybe they send them monthly bags along with their social security checks.

I think he's still got it, he just had to downplay some of the antics due to his previous suspension and then he suffered the injuries. I think if he gets an extension and come to camp next year he'll be back to his old self. I could be biased though since he's been one of my favorite players since he came into the league.
-
I would definitely like to see Kaleta offered an extension. He's relatively cheap, skates fast, plays hard, is a great PKer, defends teammates, draws penalties, and gets under the skin of opponents. I really don't see the downside in keeping a spot for him on the roster as long as the team is still looking for a traditional 4th line of grinders and energy/agitator type guys.
-
This would be a great choice. The intro is upbeat and once we start playing well it will definitely fit the team. The only downside is that it takes almost 45 seconds to get into the first chorus so they'd either have to chop it or only use it during longer stoppages in play. All that being said it could definitely work and I don't think it's being used by anyone else which could make it uniquely ours.

I don't think it's really any different but I would expect the people who deny what happened with Atlanta would probably deny that certain GM's favor Canadians or don't care for Russians. Our own GM seems to favor tall Swedish goaltenders. Somebody should tell him that we are all exactly the same and Norwegian ones are just as good.

Whatever, man. Facts are facts and they did what they did. I wasn't defending it, just making a statement of fact. You can choose to ignore it all you want, but it happened. Your denial of it is nonsense. http://deadspin.com/5749288/the-atlanta-thrashers-hope-black-players-on-the-ice-put-black-fannies-in-the-seats http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/28/sports/hockey/28nyrangers.html?_r=0 http://www.businessinsider.com/are-the-atlanta-thrashers-hoarding-black-hockey-players-2010-10 http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Thrashers-not-trying-to-exploit-black-players-?urn=nhl-280435 I never said they only went after black players, but it definitely was a part of their decision making. Some of them were/are really talented players but to try to pretend that race and the demographics in Atlanta didn't factor in to the equation is ridiculous. Yeah, Kane and Byfuglien and extremely talented players but so are other players they could have drafted or gone after. Not to say they'd take a lesser black player over a better white one but just like showing a preference for size or speed or stickhandling if they had two guys rated similarly and one of them was black then they'd be more likely to opt for the black player. Factoring in race =/= racist and to pretend it has absolutely no role in the process is just willful denial.

It's easy to say that now with the benefit of hindsight but there's really no way that was possible. When Pegula took over the team they were in the midst of a pretty good run and were challenging for the playoffs (which we made), all with our best center at the time, Derek Roy, being out with an injury and the possibility of getting him back for the playoffs. The team was playing better and everyone was excited about Daddy Warbucks coming to town with all his money and how things would change with our new rich owner. Buffalo was a small market team but with a flush new owner we would be a small market team with big budget financing. There's no way we enter a massive rebuild as soon as he gets to town after that. With the purchase of the Sabres, the speech about the new primary objective, the purchase of the Amerks, and the fancy new locker room they had no choice but to go for broke and try to build on what was already here with some high dollar free agent acquisitions. Just be happy that once they realized the plan wouldn't work without top centers that they agreed to scrap it and rebuild from scratch. Having Galchenyuk and MacKinnon would be great, but that's water under the bridge and I'm happy to have Eichel and Reinhart cemented as the centers of our top 2 lines for the next decade.
