We don't really have any sort of public transportation. There's a small bus system but the stops and station are in the downtown area and they only go out to the business areas like the mall and other shopping centers, along with the hospital and the community college, all of which are pretty much on the same busy road. You have no choice but to drive, bike, or walk anywhere and even if I had the desire to ride a bike to work (I haven't ridden a bike in probably 25 years) it would never happen because it would take me 5 times as long and I'd get to work a sweaty smelly mess. Not to even mention the looks I'd probably get from the Guards at the gate when I pull up in a 10 speed and stop to show my base ID. After they died laughing they'd probably say my Huffy was missing its base sticker so they may not even let me through the gate.

I think Murray got good value on several deals (Miller and Ott, and Moulson are decent examples). Seems like he's capable of selling at a decent to good price because he doesn't care who is buying and on the buying front (Kane, Lehner, O'Reilly) he's more worried about getting his man than what the price is and since he wants his guy (instead of a similar player) he pays what he needs to. As for Legwand, the most salary we can retain (on him or anyone) is 50%. I think if McCormick recovers then Legwand goes on waivers and down to Rochester. If McCormick isn't cleared to play by training camp then Legwand probably makes the roster. Larsson is versatile, cheap, and useful so I'd like to keep him but I don't see him anywhere near our top 6 unless we suffer a rash of injuries.

My commute is about 15 miles/30 minutes each way but whether gas is cheap or expensive it seems like the same number of people on the road either way, so the gas might as well be cheap.
-
Yep. I would've taken the money too, but he chose not too and that's his choice. I'd rather not have him at all then to have him signed for longer than 3 years though so I'm just happy Murray was willing to walk away. We definitely have a hole of LHD and a glut of bottom 6 forwards but the problem is that I don't think packaging up our overflow players would get us the piece(s) we need and I'm afraid Murray would have to add other picks and prospects that we don't want to see get moved out the door to get what he needs.

I don't have a problem. I made a comment and I stand by said comment. If you have a problem with it, feel free to put me on ignore. Or go into a fake outrage. Or a real one. Whatever floats your boat.

Disappointing but if the reports that we offered him $15 million over 3 years are accurate and he signed in Dallas for 2 years and $7.5 million then he really didn't want to be here. Time to move on.

Sweetness. When I started driving gas was 89 cents a gallon and I remember pissing and moaning when it went over a dollar. Having it under $2 a gallon would be great on my budget, especially since it should also lead to a slight decrease in prices at the grocery store and other places as well. Long term, we still need to get off fossil fuels and switch to renewable energy but lower gas prices in the short term should help the poor and middle class tremendously.

Oh ok. My memory must be getting fuzzy. I thought it was originally going to get put outside of Chicago in the plains of Illinois or something like that. I'm surprise Texas would want anything more scientific than an oil rig in their state but I guess with NASA having a space center in Houston anything is possible.

He should have said something like "Sorry guys, she's taken" but I'm sure that would've made it even worse after he got in the house.

Thanks, man. Interesting stuff. As guess as they are able to move particles at faster and faster speeds it should be able to help us detect smaller and smaller sub particles as they get smashed together. We could have had it built in the US too but in the end it's probably for the best that it isn't. I could see the tea party stopping the funding for it in order to give rich people another tax cut or something.

Cool. Do you have a link to the article? I'd be interested in reading it.

Are you referring to the Higgs Boson? I thought that got discovered a couple of years ago. They made an episode of Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman about it.

Funny stuff. I just couldn't resist with Eleven mentioning Randy and the storm. On a side note I'm happy as hell that netflix restarted the series but I'm all caught up and need another season already.

I would definitely look into it, man. That big of a raise definitely warrants it. Do you think O'Reilly is smoking dope with Ricky and drinking potato vodka and lifting weights with sexy sexy Julian in Canadian jail? I like to think that he is.
-
That's an easy answer on the surface because Ryan O'Reilly is a superior player to Larsson but it's ignoring cost and opportunity cost. Tying up money on his contract may lead to losing other good players and deplete our depth so it may not be as simple as O'Reilly vs Larsson, it may be more like would you rather have Ennis and a really good #3 defenseman or O'Reilly and just a decent #3.

I don't know exactly who I've had the conversation with (mostly because it was many people) but I was against picking up O'Reilly since way before we got him. It's peppered all throughout that speculation thread that became the trade thread but the gist from my point of view is that we already have a log jam at the LW/C position and I knew he'd require a contract paying him to be a first line center long term. He's just what the doctor ordered now, but 2 years from now when Eichel and Reinhart are good to go, it's overkill (IMO) to pay him that much to shift over to wing or to center the 3rd line because the money could be spent better at that point (again IMO). The vast majority of folks here disagree (some passionately) but that's just how I see it. Luckily he'll still be young by the time we know if Eichel and Reinhart have the goods or not so if we need to move him in 2 years, it shouldn't be hard.

Let's hope the Patriots put some chair stealing teenagers on their offensive line this season.
-
Fair enough, sir. We can agree to disagree and I don't expect anyone to give up their views or expectations to agree with me. I just hope we find a good LHD because what we currently have gives me concern. Maybe in a couple of seasons after Eichel and Reinhart have assumed their future roles as our top 2 centers though we can trade O'Reilly to a center starved team for a good one (LHD) though. I'm hoping that TM will have the situation resolved prior to that of course but it's always a possibility.
-
You must be reading other boards then because he gets way more praise, admiration, and hero worship then he gets people calling him a 50 point scorer, 2 way forward, or whatever you want to claim as a non-glowing description. The fact is he's getting paid top line center money (not superstar money, just regular top line center) and within a year or two he will not be our top line center. If he is then tanking was a disaster because that will mean that neither Eichel or Reinhart lived up to the hype.
-
It may not be all about points but you included it so I decided to make a point about the fact that Mr. Intangibles has only scored 60 points once so he shouldn't be referred to as a 60 point player when that was his best season and not his typical one. Also, to say the money is a total non issue is only taking our present salary cap into consideration. Once Eichel, Reinhart, Ristolainen, and Girgensons are off ELC's the money/cap space will certainly be an issue and it could lead to losing somebody like Kane or Bogosian. Sure by then Gionta and Gorges will be off the books but they'll need replacements and we'll probably be able to move a guy like Moulson but to make a blanket statement like the money is a non-issue is either fairly disingenuous or just looking at the short term.

Another drawback to shipping off Zadorov as well. Evander Kane seems like he can throw'em pretty well though. Plus if McCormick recovers and makes the roster, he's always willing to step in. I also forgot Weber. He may not be very good at fighting, but he's willing to.
-
I think he overpaid but that's because I had high expectations for Zadorov and I don't think O'Reilly will be nearly as needed within a year of his new contract kicking in even though he'll still be highly useful due to his versatility. I had Zadorov and Ristolainen pegged as our top pairing for a decade and now I look at our left side and I see a recovering Gorges, McCabe, and Weber as our likely guys on the roster. I'm probably biased though because I personally wouldn't have traded Zadorov for O'Reilly straight up, let alone adding the other pieces included (none of the rest of which really bother me whatsoever). In all fairness I get that Zadorov carries risk and O'Reilly is much more of a sure thing, but that's still how I feel about it.
-
I get that O'Reilly is everyone's new favorite person but he's only scored 60 points once in his career to date. I didn't recall everyone praising Stafford as a 30 goal scorer in the NHL but by the same logic that's how he should be referred to. At this point O'Reilly is a 50 point 2 way center who is being paid top line money. He's a great option to keep Eichel and Reinhart from being thrown to the wolves as rookies though.

That's how I see it too. I bought Rick Jeanneret a beer at Buffalo Brothers pizza a few years ago when the Sabres Road Trip was held in Raleigh. I'm sure he was already drinking for free courtesy of the Restaurant but I bought him one anyway as a token of my appreciation for the guy.

It should be. Just tell them you got the letter as a past subscriber so you are entitled to the discount. I got an email directly from Directv about it.
