  1. Thank you so much, I have been down here for about 2 weeks, sooooo many projects done and so many more to do. We can always use laptops and phones and I usually come every summer and sometimes twice a year..... We are always finding sponsors for our kiddos and sending them to college, getting a grasp on those afflicted with drug and alcohol problems, testing and treating HIV, the list goes on and on. It makes dealing with our first world problems at home difficult sometimes and really puts things into perspective as well. But we appreciate all the help and every little bit goes a long way ?
  2. It's hard because I have formal training and personally, I would never embark in medical care without either training or at least someone medically capable by my side. It just wouldn't feel right to me. This is where a semester in bioethics still left me wondering where the line is and when is it actually crossed.
  3. Ill say this much, if a white person, especially from the US was to come to the small community I'm at with even a glimmer of hope..... The people here would take it, because there is almost a 0% chance of any meaningful change without any outside help, that in itself is very sad. I also think it would have been very easy for her to "employ" a local clinician to help along the way, as even I consult with some locals here as the disease processes differ greatly and having some input is very nice.... Also to help translate.
  4. First, to understand, jinja (where this happened) is a mzungu (white person) haven; also very poor area. Because of the white influence, is a much different area compared to where I am, basically towards the west side of the country. The overall thought in the country (I spoke with the president of Kyotera) yesterday, was that there are many good doers here that are genuine..... However, there are many here that are pushing some awful things (homosexuality, *****, etc etc) because they have money compared to Africans, and some alterior motives are at play. It's becoming hard to differentiate because the need is so great and the communities can be so spread apart. When it comes to the locals where I am, not too many know of her, as news often does not travel as it does in our country, for those that are aware, they are upset, but not as much as we would be, because the other option for them was to let the child starve at home, or take them there for a chance, to a woman who has presumed money. Even I am not overly familiar with this situation, I just read up on it and it's rather sad, white privelage is a thing, even if we think our heart is in the right place. What are your thoughts on it?
  5. Sure, but I'm a pain in the ass ? Thanks for the kind words!
  6. I'd be sitting in the hallway picking my nose and drinking chocolate milk off the floor
  7. Hey I had to teach him how to get it done ???... If you're not first, you're last haha
  8. Being dad again ? had to show the boy how's it done ?? also, this is the little guy that was stranded at our orphanage, we had him tested today and was negative for HIV, malaria, and etc, awesome news as 1 in 8 here are HIV+ even from birth. He's the coolest little man ever. Also, one of the kids here made me that one shirt and I love it ?
  9. It rained here yesterday (in Uganda) and my phone battery died, I was hoping to take video and overlay it with Africa by toto.... By time I got a charge, it stopped.... Damn it, I need to make it happen ?
  10. The Canadian accountant, he's got tipping down to a science ?
  11. I'm amazed at the generation of cellular "phones" we live in.... In India recently, I saw a family of 10 living in a broken down airplane in a field, but yet, they all had a phone. Also here in Africa, phones are like gold. People are being killed and mugged, knocked off of motorcycles, just to steal a cell phone. Also Africa leads the nation in sending/receiving mobile money. Everywhere you go MTN, africell, and Airtel advertisements are everywhere (local cell companies) I even find myself sometimes attached a bit more than I'd like, but try to make sure I am not addicted to this thing, but it really just hits home when all these developing and poor nations place such an emphasis on it. In conclusion, I think the world is screwed ?
  12. Even for those that can't speak meme, this one is easy peezy reading ??
  13. This is basically my adopted son, Wilbroad..... We shared a wonderful moment together today, he found out that I am covering his tuition and that he'll be able to finally go to college next week, he aspires to be an engineer. He told me he was feeling hopeless and that his world was losing meaning until he heard of the news, he has a difficult time smiling, but his joy was so overflowing that we both had tears flowing! This place is heart melting.

  20. I met some local gals at the music in the meadow in Big Sky, where I'm at the conference, we all got so hammered last night that I didn't even make it to the bed in the hotel. Apparently Huckleberry vodka goes down very smooth. I was awokened by my alarm at 8am to get ready to whitewater raft the Gallitan River, class 3 and 4 rapids in 50 degree water. That may actually be a better option than hair of the dog ????
