  1. Man, that sounds like so many Ryan Miller sound bites from the post Drury era.
  2. Turgeon was a highly skilled player. Jack still has a bit to go before he becomes Pierre Turgeon. Pierre was expected to be a savior at a time shortly after the team was torn down for a mess of draft picks. It wore Pierre down and led us to needing to make a change of scenery trade. The similarities to now are hard to ignore.
  3. It never left. The league tightened up as it does every year and what was working well enough isn't enough anymore.
  4. Almost as if he's losing his love for the game....
  5. That makes a helluva lot more sense than "we aren't trading assets because the last GM did a lousy job of it". A good manager manipulates the plan when the environment changes. I'm glad to see that he recognizes the value in maintaining a goal for these guys.
  6. I've only seen a little on this. And if what I've seen is accurate, I can't really fault the decision. I mean, if Russia isn't abiding anyway, it's not a working treaty. I'll need to read more on this. Strange that the man doesn't believe his intel when they counter his policy stance but he'll belive them now.
  7. Ive wanted Brassard in blue and gold since Hect was our #1 center. I’ll admit, I have no idea what his game has been like lately.
  8. Although someone may find it political, that was nothing more than a bad marriage joke.
  9. Man, do I dislike seeing Elie’s name in the lineup projections. Can’t wait for the time when we don’t have contract space for an Ellis/Nolan/Elie.
  10. I don't either. I think he has value. Especially on PK. But he has had a tough season compared to recent. Said the same about Bogo last season.
  11. There is some real dissonance between the idea that we soft tanked and Botteril's reactions to last seasons losing. I tend to side with, playoffs weren't expected but it also wasn't intended that they were so awful either. I'm not 100% convinced of his ability to fill the bottom 2 lines and bottom pair of a team. He's had two swings and two misses at big lower half roster changes as far as I can tell.
  12. Agreed. At that point in the season, good teams should have been separating from bad teams. The expectation absolutely should have been playoffs at that point.
  13. A crater is a gaping hole. 2nd line center is a gaping hole. We also now have an unexpected hole at wing. While agreeing with little offered so far, I can agree with that trade being characterized as cratering the lineup.
  14. The road home led stormward. It was clear from where I was coming, but I knew a mess was starting. Instead of beating the mess, I drove into it. I drove from Cheektowaga to NCCC in that 85 storm. And found all classes canceled when I got there, so I turned around and drove all the way back to Cheektowaga. That one was a doozy too.
  15. Drove into this blizzard. I’ve not experienced weather quite like this before. The snow was very different from our normal snow. It was more like driving into the densest fog I’ve ever been in. I was following a semi and keeping very close behind to keep him in view. I was 1 to 1-1/2 car lengths behind him and still completely losing sight of him at times. Was using the rumble strip on the crown of the road to stay on the road. Got my drivers license in 1984. Ive had a 35 mile one way commute for most of the last 18 years. I’ve never experienced visibility this poor. Just wow.
  16. My employer is pretty good about it. And even if they don’t formally send folks home, I’ve never received pushback when I’ve said I needed to get home due to weather-travel issues. Is this a thing?
  17. Watching Buffalo weather radar and hoping my wife’s employer has enough sense to send folks home. She’s got a long commute in good weather. If that snow train dips a bit south as predicted her Thruway commute is going to a white knuckled.
  18. I think the whole damned squad is slowing things down. Risto with slow cross ice decisions, Jack with slow decisions, slow to develop entry plays. The whole damned thing is too deliberate.
  19. I need to do this.
  20. Like the rest of the powerplay, our drop pass plays are developing too slowly. No reason it needs to result in 3 playes waiting with dead feet at the blueline.
  21. Was gifted a venison back strap and round roast. My intent this AM was to prep it to make venison bourguignon, and then it occurred to me, venison has alot in common with lamb, flavor-wise. Not earth shattering news, I know, but it never occurred to me to substitute venison in traditional lamb dishes. So, dinner tonight is now Indian food. Venison vindaloo.
  22. I feel slighted. #notreally
  23. If he doesn't make it as a top 6 forward, he doesn't make it at all. He doesn't have a game that lends itself to bottom 6. He really needed to show this season that he has an NHL future and he has been less than consistent in showing it. Better than last season by all accounts, but better enough? 0 shots in last nights game. Matt Tennyson outscoring him over the last 20 games. I don't have much optimism for Nylander ending up a useful Sabres prospect.
