I’ve reached a level of cynicism that has me believing that if you’ve reached the level of federal politician (hell, I’ll lower that to state level) any moral center you’ve had was set aside so you could get to that level. You have to be a money raiser and back scratcher to get the endorsements. I guess that way I’m never disappointed.

I don't really know what I was expecting. He's a helluva talent. He has flaws. That's not unexpected. Maybe a more dominating presence was what I expected? Again, I don't know. Might be as simple as, the shadow over another year of unfulfilled team expectations has clouded my impression. Whatever. I'm way past being interested in analysis of this team.

Not enough at any one point in time IMO. You can’t sprinkle one or two in because their contribution gets lost in the noise (Brian Gionta for example). You need a veteran group.

To me, it's not about fighting, or the code, or whatever. It's about saving your brother. Noone had to shed gloves and chuck knuckles. They could have dove in and grabbed D'Angelo and held on for dear life while the refs waded in to diffuse everything. Okposo deserved that regardless of the choice of hit. I know that potentially puts 3rd man in penalties in play, but like hooking a player headed for a breakaway, sometimes it's the better move.

The difference here is that you can make a case that ROR has more value to the Sabres than what they got in a trade. So it makes sense to value the return relative to what he brought to the Sabres roster. That Willie plate has value only relative to auction unless you are eating off it.

The bolded part is what I find troubling.

Experience is a valuable asset for teaching in the regular season too. I might argue that you need the experience to get to the point where you can bring up playoffs in the conversation, so waiting for when you are a contender to bring in experience means you are always going to be waiting. Sure. Let's do that too. We have plenty of bottom 6 guys who never knew or never experienced winning in the NHL. I'm good with swapping them out to make it happen.
