Who Are the 2C and 3C Candidates Internal and External?
Weave replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
As I mentioned in the Vesey thread, my gut is telling me that JBott made a value judgement and isn't willing to pay the current market price for a 2C, and is willing to try shoring up the situation at wing to get improved lines 2 and 3 performance. Better value at the wing positions. I am skeptical that this play will be successful. -
I feel like the Zemgus hate is fueled more by familiarity breeds contempt than by actual game performance.
-
Too bad they weren't reading 20 games into last season.
-
I've definitely got the feeling that we are looking at shoring up the wingers to get appropriate talent level on the wings and the centers are going to be what they were last season. My best guess is that Botterill made a value judgement that getting a 2C is too expensive for his plans and so we are going to get wings instead because the value is there. And that means Casey is going to get a chance at 2C again with better players on the wing, and our 3rd line is going to be underwhelming at center as well. It's not Roy, Hecht, Gaustad bad, but it's going to be thin. At some point a center is going to miss games and it is going to be ugly.

I don't get how we can laugh at any other franchise's state of affairs.

I know that feeling.. A few years back we let our dog out in the back yard one morning and when we checked on him 10 minutes later he was nowhere to be found. Looked in the back and found that overnight someone kicked our chain link fence in and there was a 4' gap in the fence. Oh, snap! We started to panic, and we heard our dog bark on the other side of the house. He was standing in the driveway by the side door waiting to be let in. He never left the property. Went out through the hole in the fence, came around the front yard, and back up the driveway.

I'd rather he was posting gifs of tractor tire flipping.....

Yes, yes it is. Hopefully that mistake isn't repeated. -
By the looks of the picture, the 2C is a few years out.

Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
Weave replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
Interesting that one of the founders of the Freedom Caucus is fed up enough with the direction of the GOP that he is declaring himself now a political independent. https://reason.com/2019/07/04/justin-amash-declares-independence-from-republican-party/ -

We have become the countries we laughed at in the 1980's. -
He said quite explicitly that he could dig another well if money was an issue. So, it's perfectly fine by me that it gets thrown back in his face from time to time.

I wanted to get back to this. “Trolling” has a negative connotation, and I get that given how frequently the word is thrown your way, you’d most likely react negatively to the label. But there is trolling, and then there is trolling. We’ve had our share of posters that just wanted to watch the world burn. Thankfully, they aren’t here long. Pi isn’t one of them. And neither are you. At worst, Pi’s version of trolling is harmless. It sure does spark conversation, which is the point of this forum. And trolling can be productive when it is offered to elicit a genuine idea that isn’t getting consideration. I think your contributions in this manner are underrated. The curse of an iconoclast, I guess. It is what it is. And it is trolling. I’m ok with it (not that it matters what I am ok with). And I know I do it frequently enough.

3 offseasons since Murray. And Jack on his second contract. The time for patience is past. I am hopeful that Casey can become a 2C, but I think it is foolish for a GM to count on it. Get a 2C in here and if Casey takes the job we’ll be deep at center. Always a good thing.

Except Nashville didn’t pay anything. Or Vesey would have lost his NCAA eligibility. The only sin here is that Vesey didn’t choose to sign a contract with the team that drafted him. But he did it under negotiated provisions of the CBA. Don’t think for a minute that those provisions weren’t carefully thought out and negotiated. They owners are very aware of what they signed up for and agreed to. There is no lack of character associated with using the full negotiated provisions of a contract. You’d be a sucker to not. The provision allowing NCAA athletes to go to free agency after 4 years sucks in my opinion. Mostly because teams draft and count on those kids being there and then.. poof... they go elsewhere. But its not a character flaw to use those provisions. Not taking advantage of your full contractual capabilites is foolish. The right to go to free agency is just that. A right. A negotiated, deliberated right. And like any other right, negotiated or otherwise, what good is it if you don’t use it?

Judging by his reaction, I’m betting it’s the “good” hand aids and bot the “bad” kind.
-
Not aggressive or meant with ill intent. I’m sure it’s just entertainment. But it’s still done for reaction. File this one under, takes one to know one.
-
He’s trolling. And you took the bait.
-
Jocelyn Gouvremont!!
-
I surely don’t. I think the prudent move is still bringing in a known quantity 2C.
-
Are there enough wingers on the roster now for all of the lines? We could see Casey get another shot at 2C with actual middle six wings.
-
If we aren't looking at a $10M+ contract for Dahlin in two seasons, it will be because he hasn't progressed as hyped. If he is as hyped, we'll (not he, we) be asking for a max term deal at those kind of dollars. He'll have the leverage.

Buffalo Sabres 2018-19: What went wrong, how to fix it?
Weave replied to Randall Flagg's topic in The Aud Club
I disagree. As much as I think Housley was the wrong coaching choice, no coach was winning with a roster completely devoid of a second line and a 4th line masquerading as a 3rd line. 70% roster, 30% coach. -
