  1. Yeah, it does seem that way, doesn’t it?
  2. Since the Friday thread isn’t open…… Today is an awesome day. My son gets married today. Small ceremony followed by an old fashioned cookout at our house. The weather is looking to be fantastic. Every freaking flower in the gardens are in full bloom, which I don’t think has ever happened simultaneously. The flowering cataulpa (sp?) tree is in full bloom. Coolers of beer and wine are chilling. Steaks from Palmer’s (IYKYK) seasoned and staged. The backyard is set up and ready. And chaos in the house as the bride to be is getting ready. I’m so happy I’m even optimistic today about the Sabres and July 1.
  3. Crosby got this kind of hate right up through about the last 1/3 of his career. McDavid is breaking freaking records in these playoffs. He’s alllllll that FFS.
  4. I missed your context, and it seems you did as well with some of the replies you quoted. ”in a vacuum” is a common theme.
  5. Has anyone here said “not Skinner”?
  6. Did you think the comparison included baseball players?
  7. I think you are being more idealist than realistic. The reality is, nearly everyone makes economic priorities as part of their decision making process. The more attractive we make specific fields, the more strong candidates we get to choose from. CNA’s should be paid more. We would attract more good ones that way.
  8. I am suggesting that $50-70k gets you a picked over list to choose from.
  9. Exactly. When you consider career options for a STEM master’s degree, $100k salaries make sense if you want to hire folks that have good options in other fields. If you are content with leftovers teaching our kids, I don’t want my kids in your district.
  10. If they don’t bring in a replacement for the offense he generates, yeah it could be a real problem.
  11. They should be. I don’t want the teacher that $50-70k buys.
  12. Do you think Crosby on this Edmonton team makes a difference in the outcome? I really don’t.
  13. Crosby “looks” like a better playoff performer because he is probably the best grinder to ever play the game. Noone could do the dirty work and collect points quite like Crosby. McDavids game is much more speed and dangle. It’s hard to directly compare the two, and McDavid’s cup runs are just really starting so it’s too early to say how he’ll be remembered playing the biggest games. But he surely has the talent and drive to be a major presence on that stage.
  14. In a bit of irony, it screams for Chris Farley, but I’ll go with Gary Busey.
  15. So how do explain the mid to high performers that don’t come from families with fitness vanity issues?
  16. IMO he was outright deceptive regarding the “coaching search”. Makes me tend to disregard what he says going forward. He’s shown me he’s willing to deceive to avoid fan displeasure. I have no expectations now. We’ll see where it goes.
  17. And none of this has anything to do with whether milennials, Gen Z, or whatever are slackers and snowflakes, so what is your point?
  18. Movie star looks. CEO ambition level. Super parent. Top performing kids. We are in the midst of greatness.
  19. Anyone still taking what KA says in a public discussion at face value is doing so at their own risk. He’s already shown that he is willing to say what he thinks the crowd wants to hear instead of what he’s really doing.
  20. Meh. My son started working on a farm when he was 12. Continued to do so for a bit after college ended and career started. The doors he had open because it said “farm worker” on his resume…. He’s a good kid. No, a great kid. You know else he is? He is representative of the bell curve of any population. He’s not special in any meaningful way other than how he is special to his family. The difference is I haven’t convinced myself that what I did, and what he’s done is anything more than typical.
  21. Ahhhhh…… your kids are different from the other 95%. 😂
  22. You are pitchforking the generation you raised. You realize that, right? Ive spent a good chunk of my career managing people and projects, including hiring. I’ve hired from all age groups. Do younger folks have different values? To some extent. Are they lazy, entitled snowflakes that can’t handle work, stress, and emotional hardship? Get over yourself. Like I said, this is the generation you raised. If you don’t like what you see, it is because it is a reflection.
  23. I simply don’t agree. I am about 5 years from retirement myself. There is nothing magical or different about our generation compared to the ones following us. We were maligned by the generations before us, and we are carrying on the tradition, unfortunately. I don’t see the younger workers today doing anything we didn’t do. The technology at their hands, and the ability to communicate is all that tha has really changed. They’ll grow, learn, adapt, and rise up just like we did.
  24. You’ve got to stop living in fear of change and let the generations following you do their thing.
