Question 1, hell no I wouldn't go in that venue. Question 2, if they put actual, data driven numbers to it, it might keep me at home permanently. The last thing I need caught in my head is that a trip somewhere had a 1 in 20 chance of risking exposure, or whatever number.

Yeah, I saw the notice today. Time to call the airlines and hotel and see how much I am eating. This sucks, but I wasn't comfortable with the idea anyway. I'm going to watch just to see if we make eye contact over the interwebs.

OT - What do you call the stuff you put on your skin to prevent sunburns?
Weave replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
Thats a good analogy actually. Noone says they are going to the liquor store to buy proof. You go to the liquor store to buy booze, which is rated by proof. I think my first instinct would be to look for something to kick if someone told me they are getting a tube of SPF to apply. -

Sunscreen, although sunblock is acceptable. SPF is a rating, not a shmear. -

Wait, trap door open AND commando? Like. A. Boss. -
76 miles each work day. I'm loving not buying all that fuel and putting on those miles.

My first was in response to a very specific sentence in the post that I quoted. It wasn't directed at any fans (or you). It was a statement of my opinion in general. An evaluation wasn't necessary and was a play by Botts to buy another season, regardless of the kids we had recently rafted.

Well, if that isn't focusing on the trees and not seeing the forest, I don't know what is.

Looking for something refreshing today while basking in the glorious weather. Mu usual go to for a refreshing summer cocktail is a mojito. Issue: no rum in the house. How about a better, tastier 7&7? Juice of 1 lime and 1/2 lemon small squirt of agave to sweeten it up a touch generous pour of Evan Williams black label Top off with lemon seltzer water on ice in a pint glass Yup. That works.

Any GM that needed an evaluation year for that group of fringe NHL'ers is an unqualified GM. The "evaluation year" was wholly unneeded and an excuse to buy time. Someday maybe this fanbase will demand winning "today".

I agree on the timing. I don't agree on the why. I think they went the direction they are now on because they recognized then the seriousness of what was to come.

I've still got tickets for a show in late August. It hasn't been postponed or cancelled yet. No way short of a vaccine that I am comfortable flying to or being at that concert. I really hope it cancels. And I am really glad I live in an area that doesn't require public transit to get around efficiently.

LTS, you quoted me, but I am not sure you are asking me. I agree that environment and context are important in the mask discussion. I see people wearing masks while out for a walk in the neighborhood. Maybe they do so because it gives them comfort. Maybe they do it simply because they believe that is what they were told to do. In the case of the first, more power to them and I wouldn’t expect reciprocity because of someone else’s comfort. In the case of the second, I am led to believe that those people either don’t fully understand the instructions or don’t understand why masks are being used. Either way, erring on the cautious side makes sense given the many unknowns with this virus. Regarding what if a vaccine isn’t found? I believe we need to begin preparing ourselves for a bit of a culture change because I think there is a significant likelihood that this virus is going to be with us long term. But I am not optimistic that the people of this country are willing to bend to make society as a whole safer. We’re too selfish a society. Our comfort and our norms are more important than society. Ive been very outspoken regarding mask usage, so I’ll provide some context behind my mask usage. In indoor public settings right now in NY it is pretty much mandated and I agree with it. So much potential gain for almost non existent effort or drawback. It makes so much sense given the cost benefit ratio. But outside? The benefit is so diminished due to the diminished risk outside that it becomes almost solely a personal preference decision. I’m assuming non crowded areas and open air here. The larger the crowds and/or the smaller the area, the more the cost benefit ratio slides towards using masks. And given the ability for this virus to be spread by asymptotic individuals I find it irresponsible (strong word but I cannot find the word that more accurately describes my thoughts here) for someone to be not using a mask once the risk starts to slide out of “low” and into the realm of “medium”. The harm in not wearing a mask is to others, not yourself, so the motorcycle helmet analogy doesn’t work well here. Your mask protects me. My mask protects you. We have a duty as libertarians to not allow our actions to be harmful to others. Self risk is my problem. Risk becomes your problem. My concern is for when I am back in an office environment. From what I have read recently, the real virus transmission concerns are focused on time in enclosed environments. It won’t be practical to wear masks for 8-9hrs in an office environment, so I expect we will be going back into the highest risk environments without mask wearing being practical. That has second wave written all over it, but I’m not sure there is another good option. My take on this has modified as more news comes out. I don’t look so sideways at beach goers now, unless we are talking heavily crowded beaches. And I am ready for an outdoor seat at my favorite brewery and winery. But I think indoor seating is still too risky. We met friends at a campsite on Saturday and were comfortable with it. Outside, keeping reasonable distance is relatively low risk according to the most recent understanding about COVID. As that changes, our expectations regarding responsible behavior should change as well.

Yup. This team can’t afford to write anyone in. We don’t need an interim 2C. We need a 2C. And then we’ll deal with having two 2Cs on the roster if it actually proves to be an issue somewhere down the road.

The only environment that really matters is proximity and time in enclosed spaces. Plenty of rural opportunities for that environment too. And if you are in an enclosed space for a significant amount of time it doesn’t matter if it is a rural Dollar General or a city office space.

Well said. All those folks treating mask guidelines as an opportunity to show our government officials that they won’t be controlled are choosing the protest over the health of everyone around them. The mask doesn’t protect the wearer, it protects the people around them from the wearer. Your mask catches what you exhale, not what I exhale. Going maskless is selfish. Period. You are choosing your convenience and your “freedom” (quotes very much intended here) over the well being of everyone around you. I wear my mask to protect you from me. Thank you very not at all for not returning the basic courtesy.

Does it have to be either-or?

What I remember of Connolly was, in the pivotal offseason that changed his game, he totally committed to being the best NHL player he could. Shaved his head, changed his routine, changed his life really. Mitts has some work to do yet.

There may be IIHF rules prohibiting that sort of thing. The rules for European juniors coming to the CHL are very specific. I expect there are very specific rules Going the other way too.

And I just slammed the tip of my ring finger with a hammer hard enough to split it open. No pics. I need to go back to work. It’s safer there.

I go back to the office in 2 weeks. Seriously tempted to get tested before I go back. Then again, it doesn't really change anything either way.

Donald J Trump, your thoughts on his Presidency
Weave replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
Are you calling a handful of op eds and one letter to the editor a MSM wide underselling of COVID? If anything, it is evidence that MSM hasn’t shouted down opinions counter to the vast majority of the scientific community and let counter opinions be heard. I think you’ve vastly overstated what you are trying to convey. -

I can't recall a single MSM new outlet calling the flu worse. If anything, they were ringing the alarm bell before it even hit our shores. -

You need to be able to buy your way in or have the backing of someone who can buy your way in.
