I need to find the interest to start watching these guys. Heaven knows I have no interest in watching the Sabres.

Pittsburgh Mario? Or Pittsburgh Crosby? It took 5 seasons after Mario was drafted for P-burgh to make the playoffs in a league where more than half got in. They didn't sniff playoffs until they aqcuired Paul Coffey and drafted Mark Recchi, two hall of famers. And didn't win until they drafted Jagr 6 seasons after. That's a hell of an act to try and follow. And they never tanked for Crosby. They were slated to draft at 5 and won the lottery. Toronto didn't tank. Period.

Separate what two things? Tanks and rebuilds? Meh. Bourbon and whisky. Travertine and stone tile. Tank is a subset of rebuilds. All tanks are rebuilds. All rebuilds are not tanks. Toronto didn't post tank rebuild better than us. Toronto didn't tank. They just rebuilt. They kept a reasonable group behind. We didn't. We did something nearly unprecedented.

2nd year. We should not be this bad. My word.
-
What does that tell you? They kept enough useful players to carry on some expectation of performance. They never did a lose at all costs 2 seasons. They did a rebuild, not a tank.

I cannot love this post anymore than I currently do. You want culture, McDermott, for all of our mocking and taunting, did it the right way. The Sabres have still not yet recovered from instilling a culture that said it was OK to lose, and tearing down the team to the point that there was noone left that cared and was able to pass on the culture. If you narrowly define execution as choosing to completely tear out everything of value that could have led the next generation I might agree.

Apparently Kevyn and Terry need help.
-
In fairness, the rest of the league doesn't seem to have a complete lack of players willing to step out of their comfort zone when needed.
-
Like Olofsson.

If Okposo isn't a 2nd line player any more and Staal isn't a 2nd line player anymore, maybe that line isn't the 2nd line anymore.

That should end the complaints that we traded him for Montour. (yeah, yeah I know a 1st rd pick was involved too) If we really want him back the opportunity is there.
-
Or he was just an incorrigible *****.
-
I can hear it now. “There is no way we won’t get him. I’ll even trade away mediocre goalies to make sure it happens”. And then DarthEbriate chimes in, “never tell me the odds”.

He was an aggressive fighter before he stopped using supplements. And that was pretty early in his career. My recollection is that he got caught or admitted to using supplements and he stopped using them afterward and he changed. Not surprising given what we know about what they do to your personality. Most of his time in the NHL was spent trying to be an enforcer without actually getting hit.

Yeah, anyone still raving about our annual new toy hasn’t learned their lessons.

Post- andro anyway.

Whatever, stranger. 🤪

Mouthpiece ejecta needs to become this kids legacy.

Apparently my boomerish 70’s WNY mind doesn’t match icons and old usernames.

Agree with pretty much all of this. Maybe the biggest mistake of all wasn’t getting a team executive who was a proven winner and could set the culture, top down. The Pegulas never did get the culture right. Its interesting that the winners they did start with, Patrick and LaFontaine, bailed out right about the time that tanking was initiated. Since that time there has been precious little in the way of people with winning in their background that has been brought in to steer the yacht.

Amen to this. And done so most fervently by our most often “victimized” poster.

The real importance associated with Cozens fight last night is that he showed real leadership (I sense a problem and I am going to do something bold to address it), real courage to step outside his comfort zone, and real emotion. And for a short period of time those traits had a positive impact on our bench. When was the last time we saw any of that out of a Sabres roster, and when was the last time a rookie had to be the one to do it? (I'm thinking Brad May on Shane Corson for the same sort of reasons) It's a good sign for Dylan that he felt compelled to react in these ways. It's a bad sign fro the rest of the roster that Dylan felt compelled to react in these ways. I tmeans the rest of the team was derilect in that regard.

This might be the most rhetorical question ever asked on Sabrespace.

I really hate that users can change their user name and I have no way of seeing whointhehell they used to be.

I’m gonna throw a thought out there. KO may work better with Staal as they are both slow of foot these days. Hall becomes the token fast guy on that line I guess.
