Was negotiating for the past 10 days with 2 employers. Just accepted a job offer. It is work that I have absolutely loved doing in the past, with a really neat technology that is up and coming, the work will be challenging in all kinds of good ways, work from home to a good extent, very generous paid time off policy, fantastic pay check, very competitive benefits, and I'll be working relatively autonomously. I start Oct. 4. My boss is not going to be happy tomorrow.

How many of those names are also on cups? I’ll make an exception for the silliness there.

I think this sums it up well. Optimism requires you to assume that a few players develop AT LEAST as expected and everyone else to AT LEAST hold their own. The odds of everyone being at least as good or better than last year is damned slim. Every season a couple of guys blossom and a couple of guys regress. We will almost certainly see that dynamic play out this year. And given how little margin for error this roster has, 75 points is ***** optimistic as hell.

We watched Allan overthrow mid to long throws all season last year. In quiet environments. He has folded a bit in big games. He’s just getting used to being on that stage. It’s an acquired skill.
-
As he did many, many times last season with no crowds. Yes, he was jacked up and playing too tight. I’m sure that trying too hard to impress the 1st home crowd in 2 seasons was a factor, but you are trying to tell me that a failing O line and withering pressure by Pittsburgh was less of a factor than the home crowd in his performance. Read that again and tell me it doesn’t sound silly.
-
The real reason Allan had a bad game, not the crowd.
-
He is retired. 😉 Top 3 best American goalie is still limited to “very good”. You don’t retire very good player numbers.
-
I think Allan just needs to get comfortable with the stage. That takes time.
-
Tank level bad. Maayyyybeee the D is good enough to prevent it. Maybe.
-
Miller wasn't good enough to retire the number. No point in giving a nascar number out to someone when a perfectly good common to the position number was available for the taking.
-
It looked to me like Allen was feeling the pressure of expectations, and it showed. He’ll adjust. Hopefully by game 3. I felt like Josh didn’t see enough preseason action, the WRs didn’t come through in the clutch, the O line hurt us with penalties, and Wallace was targeted quite effectively. And the punt block was a huge emotional moment.

I wonder how much, if at all, college coaches consider and work with pro coaches of their drafted players. I would have to think it is a recruiting benefit to be able so say your program works with draftee coaches on development. Of course, how does that fit in with overall program success and winning?

My wife says it reminds her of Mannheim Steamroller. 🤣

Nice! The extra length will make it easier to paddle too. You won't regret that. Bring that ***** up here when you visit and we'll get out. PM inbound. Be forewarned, you'll be spending money when I am done with you. 🤣

A coworker and good friend of mine, Indian, moved back home rather than continue his career here after repeated abuses out in public after 9/11. I hope your time is easier now.

Which one did you get, Swamp?

You guys are giving PA way too much *****. All he is expressing is optimism that the negative changes we all recognize don’t have to be permanent. As (if) we heal, some of the negative may return to what we used to know as normal.

I really disliked May turning big time thug. Maybe it is bias generated by watching him when I was young, but I felt like he didn't become that until May, Ray, Barnaby. I assumed it was all a result of the steroid era in hockey. He always seemed to enjoy the fight, but the unnecessary agresssion seemed to follow after he bulked up and grew a chin 3x in size.
-
I don't think you give Ray enough credit. He adapted to the jersey tie down rule and was still a good fighter. He spanned an era that introduced the super heavies. He was badly overmatched by them, but he held his own ond frequently beat more normal sized men, I think May would have done very well vs. Ray. He had knockout power and was very quick. And after he abandonded the idea of being a power forward and concentrated on that part of his game he became an excellent tactical fighter as well. I don't think it is coincidence that Ray never fought May. I think Ray knew he'd more than have his hands full. Larry Playfair..... same thing. Huge hands.

Now that is a cool logo. Well done, Portland.
-
Pretty sure Ray and the rat fought at least once after Barnaby was traded. My recollection was it was a nothing fight with no damage done.

I think it did change us, maybe not forever, but for at least 2 decades. Consider the security, the legal changes, the responder hero responses that still occur with gusto today, the ceremonies to military, etc etc. I’d say that morning has directly influenced where were are today as a society. I stopped being angry about that morning a long time ago. We’ve destroyed the people who did this. But I still feel very saddened when I see images of that morning. Not only did it lead to so many American deaths, it also led to 20 years of warfare. At that time I worked in a very culturally diverse workplace. Today I am still ashamed by my heat of the moment reaction to what I was watching as it happened. And I’m also ashamed by the cultural changes our country underwent as a direct consequence of that morning. I’m not sure our country ever actually healed from that wound.

Oof. I know this is coming for us soon. You have my sympathy.

Most obvious statement ever. Yes. First time there.
