I'm not sure if I'm suppose to say yes or no. Dahlin's the best player, yes.
-
You're looking at it wrong. If you play every game, you're winning percentage will be the same as the team's winning percentage. So Nelson does not compare to Risto or Scandella. The stat is telling you that when Nelson plays instead of Georges or Bogo, the team has a much higher winning percentage. It is, of course, not the best stat in the world, because Nelson has played more recently, and the team is a little better recently (I think), so Nelson gets some benefit from that.

Yeah, Addison's numbers look great. I'm going to need to think about defensemen and height. 5 years ago it was an issue, but I'm thinking it's hardly an issue anymore
-
I'd have to look at it closer, but I looked at it the other day and decided that Hughes probably hurt Wahlstrom's numbers because Wahlstrom only got the benefit of Hughes for about half the games, but the model will discount your score because of a higher scoring player (on a pts/game basis) on your team. If I wasn't busy, I would do what I did for Strome, which is look at his scoring with McDavid games and without McDavid, but looking through boxscores is ugly work. As for Zadina, I haven't looked at Zadina lately, but remember that he wasn't outscoring his teammates, and he plays in the Q, which generally has higher scoring than the other CHL. A few months ago, before I loaded data, that I expected Zadina not to be ranked very high. The model doesn't work any better than the scouting method for the first round. Where it kills is that it regularly finds someone I ranked 8th who will be drafted in the 3rd round, players like Braydan Point, Panarin, Kucherov, Jesper Bratt. I haven't looked for that player this year since I won't bother uploading data until the NHL gets into playoffs.
-
I'm agreeing with you. The teams aren't making a comparison between Wahlstrom and say Nico Hischier, so they aren't making the proper analysis as to whether to drop down or not.

There's 2 different lists, 1 was what my model thought at the time, the other is what the model currently thinks I should have thought at the time. This is the past few years of what my model currently thinks I should have thought at the time. And Woody, these numbers are for 2 years, so don't do the normal 1000->NHL ready calculation. 2018 1 RASMUS DAHLIN 2306 2 EVAN BOUCHARD 1531 3 ANDREI SVECHNIKOV 1476 4 OLIVER WAHLSTROM 1343 2017 1 NOLAN PATRICK 1322 2 NICK SUZUKI 1123 3 JESPER BOQVIST 1110 4 TIMOTHY LILJEGREN 1108 2016 1 AUSTON MATTHEWS 2747 2 CLAYTON KELLER 2004 3 MATTHEW TKACHUK 1682 4 CHARLIE MCAVOY 1473 2015 1 CONNOR MCDAVID 3337 2 JACK EICHEL 3195 3 NOAH HANIFIN 1562 4 MITCHELL MARNER 1549 2014 1 WILLIAM NYLANDER 1866 2 SAM BENNETT 1324 3 SAM REINHART 1299 4 AARON EKBLAD 1199 2013 1 ALEKSANDER BARKOV 3378 2 ARTTURI LEHKONEN 1638 3 NATHAN MACKINNON 1574 4 JONATHAN DROUIN 1403 My point is that getting Walstrom 4th this year will be like getting the first pick in 2017, that it's the value of the prospect, not the value of the pick that's important. Oh absolutely. They're all reading Bob McKenzie for draft advice.
-
It's upthread somewhere. I said our top 8 is almost identical, except switching Bouchard and Zadina. So the 4 are Dahlin, Bouchard, Svechnikov (sp?), and Walhstrom. Tkachuk is ok, but a drop down from my top 4. Everyone else is a ways back.
-
the chart is fairly meaningless because the value of the pick isn't strongly tied to position but is tied to the prospects value in the draft. As an example, last year I had the top 8 players almost of the same value, so I wouldn't pay a lot to move from 8 to 1 and wouldn't expect a lot moving from 1 to 8. This draft there is (in my view) a huge gap between the value of 1 and 8, so I would pay a lot to move from 8 to 1. This year, I think there are 4 good players, fortunately, they are not the same 4 as you guys think, so I wouldn't mind drafting 5 or 6. For me, there is a huge drop if I'm not getting one of those 4, so moving past 6 is out of the question for me.
-
Will we be talking about this in 5 years? How Warwow went all Lucic on smell's Miller, or would it be Miller's smell? And Sabrespace didn't stand up to the Lucicing. My story, which may or may not be true, is I went to Bangladesh, then Cairo, then St Petersburg Florida with Woody. If that doesn't make any sense, we were in Florida to get 36 holes of golf in. I feel so Luke Adam right now.
-
As I understand it, he will hit UFA a year early if he gets in 41 games next year in Buffalo. So I expect to see him in January at the earliest.
-
My methodology says he's not ready yet, but there are lots of guys that didn't really score at 17 or 18, Scheifele comes to mind off hand, so I expect him in Rochester next year, but I'm not arguing with Alcoholist either.
-
I read into it last night. There's a cutout for prospects of a certain age that burns their year with 1 game, I think Mittelstadt fits that cutout. I'll find the relevant (I think) bit In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC with a Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season under that SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry Level System shall be extended for a period of one (1) year, except that this automatic extension will not apply to a Player who is 19 according to Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September 16 and December 31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an additional year in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC, with the exception of Signing Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary, games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses, shall be extended; provided, however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be extended in all circumstances.
-
eliteprospects has a pronunciation of each players name. I thought stallin for Dahlin was hilarious because they don't rhyme, but actually they do.
-
Quoting Liger: Dhalin Svechnikov Zadina Wahlstrom Tkachuk Boqvist Bouchard Hughes/Quinn Looked at Wahlstrom today. We almost have the same draft board, except I switch Bouchard with Zadina and put Boqvist in the 3rd round. I have: Dahlin Bouchard Svechnikov Wahlstrom Tkachuk Hughes Dobson Zadina
-
Thanks, saved me 20 minutes typing. This is my view to the word. I was going to write it as low budget theater, if anyone wants to collaborate, I think we could get 'The Tank' up on Main St for maybe 3 nights and a matinee.
-
The exterior about 3 minutes in, the window with the light on center frame was mine.
-
Button's list, applied to the Sabres draft picks, had an excellent 2014. His 2015, 2016, 2017 results, as you say, not so good. Compiling rankings doesn't work, as nobody has worse results than Mckenzie. You can take that back 20 years if you want to study the subject. thedraftanalyst.com has CSS rankings back to around 2000, in retrospect, you might as well have a dart board.
-
This year, coach Beaulieu, though young, and inexperienced, will turn this team around, I feel it.
-
Looking at it further, I was a little harsh on Svechnikov, he's actually in the 20's (I forgot that I look at 16 and 17), his 16th year was very good, his 17th year, a little worse. While last year was a boatload of players that should have gone 5th, this year is the opposite, 3 players better than all of last year. So if you drafted the 2 years together at age 17, it'd be Dahlin, Bouchard, Svechnikov, then 16 players from last year, then Dobson 20th.
-
I was reading canucksarmy today, and they were spreading rumors about Russians that would make MSNBC blush. So before "they" (probably the legal department) took that post down, I cranked up my computer and came up with a top 8. It's certainly not the top 8, as a number of prospects, probably 50 of them, will squeeze past number 8, but these are the 8 that I could think of when I was cranking. In parens, is the 10 year predraft ranking. Dahlin (5) behind only McDavid, Eichel, Matthews, and Barkov, an average first pick. Bouchard (23) Ought to go third in an average year. Svechnikov(76) Ought to go eighth in an average year Tkachuk(123) Ought to go thirteenth in an average year Dobson(161) You get the math by this point, right? Zadina(187) Hughes(209) Boqvist(880) Middle of the 3rd round The only 2 good things I see in this draft. If they win the lotto, they get a high-end player. If they draft 4th, 5th, or 6th, a good player may very well be there.
