Is there any chance that trades will be made before deadline?
thewookie1 replied to freester's topic in Archive
I'd like to thank my parents for raising me, the Sabres for sucking, and my imagination. Thewookie1's masterful plan: Trade Miller(50%), Myers & 3rd rounder to Edmonton for Eberle & a 2nd rounder Offer Enroth, Grigs, McNabb/Ruhwedal & a 2 2nd rounders for Giroux Offer a 2nd and 4th rounder to Toronto for Reimer Offer Stafford + a 4th rounder to a team for a 2nd rounder Ask Vanek if would like to stay, if Giroux and Eberle can't make him happy deal him for a 1st round + prospects. I have just teared up the Sabres roster. -

Supposedly Claude Giroux is very unhappy with Philly, what would you be willing to give up to grab him? I'd personally try to hold onto Hodgson and trade Grigo + Miller. Obviously you'd need to take salary back but that's easy. -

Deal Myers and Miller (50%) for Eberle and some depth goalie Our team suddenly gets better due to the lack of Myers screw ups and Eberle's scoring ability Miller to Enroth will hurt a little but the actual pain will be erased by the other two positives. -

Leino has negative value Stafford has neutral value Myers is still worth a good deal, he's still very young and has time to find his game again. I'd bet that if you were to poll the rest of the league that at least 8 teams would say they'd be interested in acquiring Myers. His contract is actually great if he turns into a #1 D-man seeing as they make about 7 mil now not to mention most of Myers' contract is paid for already. Miller could be dealt at any moment seeing as his worth won't change based on the deadline but rather how other goalies are doing in comparison. While I'd like to lock Vanek up long term, he'll be worth more on deadline day Ott if we are unable to sign him would likely be worth a 1st or 2nd rounder to some teams. Hell, we may be able to get him to resign with us after the season due to Weber. Grigs...... seriously....... he's 19. Not every player is immediately amazing. Maybe in 4 to 5 years I'd start think about it but after about 20 games is ridiculous. I wouldn't mind seeing Myers and Miller to Edm for Eberle and a pick. (If their goaltending situation becomes desperate they may actually be willing to overpay for a solid goalie.) If no contract extension for Vanek I'd hunt for multiple picks and prospects. On a more short term idea, I'd see if I could deal Adam and McNabb for a younger scoring forward. ( I don't mean a great one, but someone with some potential who's a sniper.) -
What they should do is end this whole mess by proposing a clean budget with only the, government officials don't get money from ObamaCare subsidy amendment to the law. WE can wait until a new R president comes into office for us to fix/dismantle ACA.

The Sabres Hockey Hotline with... somebody or other?
thewookie1 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I remember that game made me feel awful, especially when the Hurricanes won the Cup that year.I remember looking up the starting D-Men for that game more recently and I remember that between the 4 of them they only had 4 NHL games after this game. Not to mention 1 of them retired from stats tracked leagues 2 years later. -
Hey we could try and get Gagner from Edmonton, they'd be desperate if they can't get him to a contract. Nevermind, his stats are atrocious and he makes Stafford look good in that regard.
-
Regardless if Zadorov makes the team this year, he's Sabres "property" now so Grigs knows he'll return. Zadorov probably needs 1 or 2 years worth of honing still and seeing how our depth chart looks, I can see a problem with him making the team regardless.
-
I like Raymond - my problem with him however is he's too much like our other soft skill guys. Though his skill does seem very high. Brunner - Would really like to get him on the Sabres Morrow - Character guy, team first mentality, has lead a young rebuilding team in the past and has played with Ott. To me Vanek leaving or staying wouldn't matter in signing him.
-
Could I see the trade above working..... no Could I see OV in a Sabres jersey ...... yes It would likely be after his time with Washington is through and before retirement. I would assume he'd want to play here at least a year just because it was likely a dream of his.

This shows me that this might be Myers last chance to prove he can return to his rookie form. For the younger guys, Tallinder hurts, but seeing as Myers is our #1 D-Man in theory, he'd take precedence over all the other D-men's ToI. As for Sulzer, they signed him due to his great play when he's with Erhroff. Sulzer is literally only good when with Erhroff, he has 7 goals in his career over 100 games, 6 of those goals comes with Buffalo and 34 games. If Tallinder gets injured halfway through the season, we actually benefit in theory because then a younger guy gets to step up, yet we still get to have Tallinder's experience and intelligence off ice. My best guess is that either Pysyk or McNabb/ both will be Tallinder's understudy solely for Myers hand holding.

Vanek for Oshie & Berglund would be cap neutral nearly. (Actually has us taking a slight hit) Miller for Halak & 1st rounder St. Louis take about 3 mil on the cap. Miller(25%) with all else holding has St. Louis taking only 1.75 mil on the cap. Very reasonable numbers.
-
With St. Louis signing Roy they now have 3 centers and both Berglund and Roy would likely be classified as 2nd line Cs. My guess is that the trade to Buffalo likely includes Oshie and Berglund seeing their 2 contracts practically = Vanek's along with the fact St. Louis at the moment is stacked down the RW. (Stewart, Oshie, Tarasenko)along with their LW (Steen, Perron) All their wingers, with exception to Tarasenko, are at best 25 goal scorers in their past seasons so I can see why they would want to acquire a Vanek-type star.
-
He did actually mention the Ryan trade briefly before anyone else, then again a blind squirrel finds a nut every so often. Though I will say, that does sound like something Darcy would do.

Vet leadership is vital as is depth.

Sulzer, I guess that's ok. He work very well with Erhroff so I can his usefulness in there. Random D guy for Amerks.... alright I guess.

If we can get Briere here's how I'd start the season off: Grigs, Girgs, and Larsson in Rochester on the 1st line. Keep Vanek. Vanek - Hodgson - Armia Leino - Briere - Foligno Ott - Porter - Flynn Kaleta - McCormick - Tropp Why? Because if Grigs at C starts tearing up the AHL, you move him to where Briere is, then based on how Foligno is playing you move Briere to RW either for the 2nd or 3rd line. Girgs can enter through the 4th line C and get up to 3rd line C by switching Porter to the 4th line. Unless Tropp is playing bad you keep him on line 4 or even line 3 depending while Flynn is sat unless he's spectacular. Larsson is sadly the only guy I can't find a place for outside 4th line C.
-
Sign him Buffalo, 1 year deal, let him be traded in March for more assets. Then resign him next summer again if he's willing to. It'd be a win-win for both sides. Briere gets to play near his home in a place he already likes, then gets to help a team in the playoffs The Sabres get a clutch performer who has lots of playoff experience that he can teach the younger players on the roster. And then at the deadline some sort of asset on top of it.
-
I second the targets, if we can get Ribeiro for 3.5 to 4 mil and Dupuis for about 2 mil I'll be very happy with the off season. More-so if we can deal Miller and allow the goalie backlog move along again.
-
Only 3 of the listed players aren't in Regier's draft history so I suspect propaganda. Ruff, Mogilny, and Primeau. Only Mogilny is really worth a win of best Sabres drafted player of those 3. Aside from that, only Vanek is a 40 goal scorer for the Sabres on that list.
-
I have an idea: After Miller is gone and/or Vanek I'd suggest us go knocking on both Jagr & Iginla's doors. Sign of them to a 6/7 mil contracts and let them teach the youngsters on the roster. Then at the deadline field calls for him, compile a list of proposals you'd be willing to take, and then tell said player to choose. You would hold 50% of the contract thus allowing for the top teams to fit them on their rosters, the veteran would get money and then a choice to what team to go to after 3/4th of the season is through, and we gain draft picks or prospects.
-
We are merely 3 weeks away from the dash to the free agent market, who would you like the Sabres to pick up, and people can post in news about signings here as well if they would like to. Guys I'd like in order, not including Sabres RFAs/UFAs 1. Nathan Horton - 1/2 line RW Power Forward, has ben great in the playoffs too. (28) 2. Valtteri Filppula - 1/2 line LW with plenty of future potential still. (29) 3A. Bryan Bickell - 2/3 line LW Power Forward has been tremendous in the playoffs (27) 3B. David Clarkson - 2/3 RW Power Forward Fun to watch for sure Veterans I'd be interested in getting to help with teaching 1. Michael Ryder - (33) Won a Stanley Cup with Boston, was key in that team, 3 or 4 30+ goal seasons **I'd like this guy** 2. Dustin Penner - (30) He's been cold in the season of late but in the playoff he has shown great play, has won 2 Stanley Cups, a key in his first 1 and had a 30 goal season.

Miller wise In division aside from Florida/Tampa giving their 2 or 3 pick respectively; no. So no: Detroit (Howard very good) Boston (Rask has done alright) Toronto (Reimer had a great playoffs) Montreal (I doubt they will replace Price) Ottawa (Anderson, need I say more) As for the rest of conference Carolina (Cam Ward is good, Miller could help them) 5th overall pick NJ Devils (Brodeur, may be older but I doubt they trade for a 33 year old unless they're desperate for Cup right after Brodeur retires.) 9th Overall Pick NYR (Lunquist, I doubt it) NYI (Nabakov, they could use a goalie, but don't have a ton to offer us) 15th Overall Pick CBJ (B......, no way in hell) Pittsburgh (Maybe, Fleury is on hot water, but they have no 1st rounder to offer) Washington (Holtby, maybe, but aside from Ovy, who'd we want?) 21st Overall
-
Hey, if Briere and Richards are bought out, I'd go sign Richards and Morrow. Then we'd have a line of former Dallas stars.

After this playoff series + the season as a whole I feel Girgs improved far more and in the end looked better than Grigs. Girgensons looks to me as he might become not only a solid 3rd Line Center with an A, but maybe a Chris Drury-esc player who throws everything he can at the other team to win. He plays every shift with purpose. Plus, he automatically stepped up during the playoffs; no startup time, no questions, he just went out there and did everything he could to win. Larsson had 3 As and looked solid with Girgs. I'd keep those two together next year and see if it spawns a great line.
