Almost every professional hockey journo has counted us out of the 'big fish' race as it were. I think it is time to stop thinking that we will land Parise/Suter/Nash/etc. Doan is our best bet imho. I would keep our D the same. And I say Sabres community have never been happy with just getting into 8th, there has always been a desire for more. Management were happy when we had no money to play with. There's never been any doubting the ambition of this organisation in my mind.

While I know I'm wasting my time saying this but I see no way that we could get Ott out of Dallas fairly, in fact I see no reason for them to give up Ott at all, their not rebuilding, their not a cup contender tomorrow either. Ott is a good player for them to get fans in and remain competitive. I do love how this entire board becomes obsessed with one player over the entire offseason every year. Personnelly if we want that type of player I'd go after the Caps Chimera.
-
I've just thought, doesn't Wideman's contact put him on par with Myers? Thats put the emphasis on overpayment. Looking at the TSN comments some Flame fans like this move and don't want to rebuilt, remaining slightly competitive is enough. Bizarre.
-
While I don't know much about him how about replacing Ellis with him, especially if we can get him to throw his weight around a bit. McCormick-Darche-Kaleta/Tropp on 4th. Would that work? As I say I don't know much about him, only read his tsn player page
-
No I know but his a solid player in his prime, most of Calgary are past their prime by a fair few years. If Feaster intends to get more players in their 20s, even late 20's, they'll make the playoffs again soon. I somehow doubt that though.
-
At this rate his going to make Mike Milbury look competent. Massively overpaying him but this is a good signing for them, they desperately need to inject some youth, but this just isn't enough.
-
I'll go as far as a 2-3 year deal but I just don't think the guy is going to be any good at 40. Even Chelios slowed down at that age.
-
1) Roy and Tropp for a 3/4 line C/W. Thats like saying Myers and Miller for Roloson. Massively overpaying for what is a solid, if not flash, commodity. Avery without the attitude is what Ott is. 2) The Ryan deal. So your Darcy and you say 'take 3 players and a pick. Oh one has proven nothing, one had a good run but then tanked and didnt even score in the AHL and another is on a 4 year multimillion dollar deal and is coming off the back off an awful season for one of your top 3 players'. Really? You manage to offer garbage in one deal and overpay in the other. 3)Bouwmeester is exactly what we don't need. His an oversized, soft dman who doesn't really do anything particular well. I also don't want to much of Calgarys team thanks. 4) 4 years, $16 million dollar deal for a 35 year old (36 in October). At that age generally you don't want to offer any more than a 1 year deal. However I agree his a good target, Doan would be great for this team. No more than $4.5mill 1 season though. 5) Pyatt is one of the softest players in the league and has bad ties to Buffalo. I don't know enough about Moen to comment. 6) Pom is our captain and a top 6 winger on any team, Doan and Pom on the RW would be great imho. 7) Leino won't play 4th, Ott isn't a scoring line C and you've broken up the most effective line we've had since Briere was in town. I think thats enough for starters.

After running Miller soon after his concussion last season there's no way he becomes a Sabre. Well ok about the same chance we sign Marchand.

Don't be silly, that would require him to retire. He just won't stop. (I add Hasek is my all time favourite player).

Gragnani - not re-signed by Vancouver, signed by 'Canes

Ok, my point was just to set expectations, I got a feeling everyone is expecting him to be a good top 4 defensemen, whereas I say if he was that he would have been that by now. -
I agree, value wise its perfect. However Dallas needs centers and pieces for the future. We need centers, plus Ott is a fan favourite for Dallas so not only would they not give up C for C (whatever Ott normally is his played C there) but Roy doesn't really count as a 'piece for the future'. A team needing a point getter looking to make it into the playoffs would take a good look at Roy, I just don't see Dallas as that team. However NJ, Islanders, NYR, Minnesota are all looking for Offense and at this stage I'd take a pick for Roy and sign Gausted back and give Girgs a chance (you can be stuffed if you think I'm spelling his surname :P). Plus maybe another checking line center who can play wing. His talented and he can pile up points. If your looking for a leader, game changer or someone who will drag you through games his not the answer. But if you just need more offense then his talent is worth signing. I'm thinking NYR is really a natural fit for him, either them or SJ off the top of my head.

Right ok, I'm taking the word 'win' a tad literally then. I hate to be negative but Sulzer was good but his still only a 5/6/7 dman, we did get lucky and he did well but his still got it all to prove. He did well, but so did Boyes when he first got here. -
Dallas won't want to get rid of him knowing they came so close to a playoff birth last year. I'd count Ott out of the picture. Doan for me is the real prize for me, a veteran winger with playoff experience who is probably looking for a cup.

OK I'll never get this but here goes: Why must we win the trade, surely there is nothing wrong with a mutually benificial trade? This isn't directed at you Buno but a general point. In fact I would say one that is beneficial for both parties is better as we are more likely to have a good relationship with that person in the future. :) -

He'd probably crack NYI's top 4 I'd say. Thats not saying much I know but not every team has the talent level of the Nucks, bottom feeders or teams needing a cheap pickup will look to players like him. Hell even teams with no money needing to reach the cap floor will look at him. Nashville stand to lose Weber AND Suter, I bet their just one team keeping their options open. I know we dislike him because of how dangerous he was in his own zone last year but not every GM will agree with us. -

So you think no GM in the league will take a gamble on a cheap player who put up almost a point per game in his first and only playoffs? This kid is nothing more than Wideman 5 seasons ago, he could be nothing but a liability but he could also be a decent 5/6 dman for a team needing depth. I hasten to add I think he isn't going to be anything more than a 6/7 dman for his career but I was just making a point. -

He will find a home, his a serviceable dman just no room in our or the Nucks team. His offensive potential is still decent so a team needing that will no doubt take a chance on him. -
Buffalo arent one of the teams mentioned in the NHL.com article. I really don't think we'd be in the running. The guy is an amazing athlete if you read up on just what his been up to these last few years to him. As my favourite player of all time I say good for him, whatever he decided. I still think his got it.
-
Not sure what your point is, yer sure the last line was a little immature and missing a :P but you've got to have some fun. I meant the rest though.
-
Technically its thanks to the team. No-one performed as well as they should have this season. How culpable Ruff is is debatable but Regier only controls who's on the ice, not what they do so therefore his culpability is extremely limited. In short, your wrong.
-
I know I'll be shouted down but for about $1.5 - $2mill I'd take my chances with Penner.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Here we go a again. I don't think his duly concerned, though I expect him to go for Gausted in the offseason, perfect 3rd line center for him. What, that his not concerned because he has a plan or that his an idiot? Which? Yes I know what your point is, I'm mocking you.

And gets to keep his job.
