  1. Highly doubtful they make any impact moves from outside. Maybe they pick up a veteran salary dump for a pick/prospect, but it's more likely they continue to scour the waiver wire and just give the younger guys more time and bigger roles to play out the year. There isn't going to be any push for a playoff spot or attempt to speed things up, they ha e given Adam's the go ahead to take the slow rebuild from within. This year is another development year.....
  2. I'll believe it when I see it. Chances of this happening are probably in the single sigit percent. This front office values picks and prospects, and 'building from within' way too much to pay the asking price Arizona will eventually get. It's all about building from within to create a continuous pipeline to fuel a dynasty for these guys.
  3. Nah, its easy, win a few games when everythings wrapped up at the end of the year Then you talk about momentum carrying over to next seasons and some plus side from the youth Get a high pick in the draft and talk up the development of some players and Buffalo fans will be counting down the time til next season starts and they can do it over again.....
  4. Theres a good chance those will also be followed by "Thank You Space Unicorn!"..............
  5. then you trade away the mediocre overpaid players. There always seems to be teams that will take those players (the league does seem hell bent on making sure the Coyotes always exist....)
  6. There seems to be this belief that they need to build a long lasting dynasty, that they need to build a team that will somehow just grow together and form a core that will dominate together for however long they play in the league. What they need to do is just put together a competitive team with a goal of making the playoffs, then add and build from that.
  7. When was the last time a team was successful using the 'slow build' process they keep trying here? A Build where a team just kept collecting prospects to develop in the minors until they are all ready to come up and just become competitive? Pittsburgh & Chicago were a long time ago and I believe they had a couple years in a row of high picks that came in right away and were surrounded with Vets brought in to compete. In todays NHL, with the Cap, you don't have the time to spend seasons developing and slowly developing a team. I have never understood this idea of not wanting to bring in good players so young players wont be blocked either. Whats the big deal if a young player has to spend a little bit of extra time in the minors? Has there ever been a player who was ruined because they were kept down in the minors too long? Its never a problem having too many good players of any age. It gives you options and assetts to deal to address other needs. If they had brought in a better goalie this offseason, whats the worst that happens? He does well and one of the prospects develops and becomes ready to play in the next season or 2? Now you have a player to trade when you decide which one is best for the team. Instead they keep trying to find someone who has some potential, but not enough that they would block one of the prospects when they are ready. Would leaving UPL in the AHL for an extra season or 2 really kill his development?
  8. Because its always the same even though the names change Hire a cheap Coach/GM with little to no experience in the position and let them play the slow development game to build a 'Dynasty'...... The last coach with a nhl head coaching resume was Bylsma, and he built his off a team that was carried on the backs of Crosby, Malkin and a bunch of other big stars.
  9. Your expecting fans to show up 2 days early to fill the arena? Lol
  10. Sabres were +1.5 a t one point yesterday before the game. I had to do a few double takes before placing some money down because I couldn't believe they were favoring a winless team so much against a team thats playing so well. The only reason i can think of now was that they saw Ryan ,Miller was in the area and assumed he would be playing for Vancouver last night?
  11. I remember when Terry bought the team and he cut a deal to provide Sabres games on Bell for free....... That lasted about a year or 2
  12. Would their average be old enough to drink without Anderson being included???
  13. This can be repeated every year. Just have to add in a couple 'Veteran Scrubs' in place of the 'Scrub' Tavares missing time makes me wonder if he just injured his cap hit......
  14. I think Comrie gets the #1 job easily, but I think he is a really big question mark if he really is a #1 goalie in the league and one that will help the Sabres. He doesn't have much experience or track record in the league and has one season where he played double digit games. Its more likely he plays but doesn't look great/special and ends up as another 'filler piece' goalie until UPL/Portillo/Levi/another draft choice goalie steps up
  15. I proposed that already in my last reply.......
  16. Send them Back Bishop (keeping his contract though) so he can start his office job for them We will then take Robertson of their hands...... Seems like a Win/Win!
  17. I think he does t meet the higher expectations everyone has on him this season and he either plays as well or takes a step back this year, but bounces back next year
  18. If he is 100% healthy from his injury, I think he will be very good. He has excelled before and has been o e of the top goalies in his development before the injury which I don't think was healed fully last year and affected his play. He was the top goalie in the OHL when he was drafted, but the injury has prevented him from getting much time to develop. Best option for him is to ha e him in camp with the team, and then let him play in Rochester as the starter for most of the season to get regular playing time. If the Sabres need a backup for a short stint, bring up Subban to backup the other goalie and let UPL get as much time in Rochester to get himself back. If he appears back from the injury ND looks good, bring him up near the end of the season and give him aying time in the NHL so he can compete for the #1 job in Buffalo next year while one of the college goalies (if they sign) can be given the shot in Rochester next year. It's never going to hurt a player to have to have to stay in the minors a little longer then it would to rush them up too early. Especially when it comes to goalies who's play can really be affected by their mental state/preparedness
  19. I agree If he wants to join another teams front office, he should have to sign his retirement papers first if he's under contract with another team. Until then, he is still a player under contract and should be allowed to work for another team while on LTIR. If the Stars wanted him to work with their front office, then they shouldn't have been able to trade him (or essentially his contract) away. When his contract is over at the end of the league year in summer of 2023, he will be a FA and can take a coaching/front office/playing job anywhere he wants since he isn't signed to a team anymore. Or officially retire from the league as a player, but I believe that would affect the Stars Cap. If they really want him in the front office, maybe the Sabres, Stars and the league can allow a deal to be worked out that the Sabres send Bishop back to Dallas to work, keep his player contract, and they send us Robertson as a thank you.......
  20. Personally, I think that Anderson is going to look done this season, and last years decent performance is it. He is 40+ coming off a season with injuries again where he was talked out of retirement to play Comrie I think will look alright, but not the savior the team needs I net to make a jump. I see him having a good start and people's hopes will be up because of it, but then finish average/mediocre. If UPL can stay healthy, he will impress but probably spend most of the 1st 1/2 to 2/3s of the season in Rochester. The big if is if he is fully 100% healed from his injury. I think k his injury was still affecting him last year and affecting his play last year. Subbing will spe d the entire year in Rochester except for an occasional call up to fill in for a game or 2 when injuries hit the goaltenders. This year will probably be a similar year to last year standings wise with a few spans of good play to give hope, and a bunch of bad spans to keep them from gaining ground. Most of the young breakout stars from last year will take a step back as the expectations on them are risen (then they bounce back next year) and they don't meet those expectations this year. This team doesn't have the high level star power yet to make a huge jump in the standings, they are still relying on youth to reach their star potentials and veterans to fill in the roster until they see the youth is ready to carry the team which is probably a couple years out....
  21. I think they also take longer to develop because there are less options/positions for them to get a chance. Compared to Forward or defence where you have 8-12 spots for players on the team, goalie you have 1 starter and a backup spot so its harder to give a player a chance at playing time in real game situations.
  22. Considering the success that Vegas has had with their franchise so far, they get a bit of a pass. They have really made 2 bad moves that cost their team/franchise with one being coaching moves and the other in throwing away Fleury
  23. Having a 'Young Core' means F***-All really, It means you have 'Hope' and 'Potential'. The Sabres had a great 'Young Core' not too long ago with a few really high draft choices, and one of the being a 'close consolation prize' in the McDavid Sweepstakes and it got them no where. So far, the other teams around the Sabres added proven talent to their rosters to go along with their own 'Young Cores' Buffalo added one potentially solid defencemen, more 'Potential'/lottery ticket in Comrie, and a bunch of filler. On paper, those other teams have taken strides ahead of the Sabres while they appear to be treading water, but thats why games are played Theres a chance that something clicks and some of the 'Young Core' in Buffalo make huge leaps this season, but theres just as likely a chance that they struggle or take a step back too.
  24. As long as the Coyotes are in Arizona, or there are teams looking to make the Cap floor, theres always a way to get rid of the bad contracts to stay under the Cap.....
