  1. As much as I'm a Sabres fan, I hope Gerbe scores the GWG.
  2. Here are some rules for the gramatically challenged.
  3. At almost the new year, both Moulson and Vanek are 13-13-26. They're also both #26. Coincidence? I think not.
  4. Right. And it's bizarre and futile to hang on to him, salary cap be damned. The guy is the very definition of fail.
  5. Must disagree. I want Stafford out of here yesterday. Keeping him is like keeping a seven year old moldy lemon around the kitchen. Stinks up the whole area.
  6. I wish I had a nickel for every time Drew skates with the puck into the offensive zone, goes along the boards, gets squeezed out, and offers up a shot to the short side that the goalies handle easily. Or it might go wide altogether. Over and over. :wallbash:
  7. Hey, Gilbert Brule might be available...after signing with the Coyotes yesterday, he still has to clear waivers... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=437873
  8. I remember going to a Sabres game in '75-76 vs the Washington Capitals. The Sabres won 14-2. The year before that was their first year in the NHL and the Caps went an NHL worst 8-67-5 with 181 GF and 446 GA and 21 points all year. That was the worst team I ever saw and these Sabres, as dismal as they are, at least keep the scores relatively respectable. Plus we already have six wins, although only two were in regulation. Who knows, if these Sabres were back in '74-75 we'd only have two wins through Dec. 1 so maybe 8 wins all year might have been attainable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ7IA8WeMAg
  9. DiPietro released by the Charlotte Checkers. Pegula, Wang and Arte Moreno of the Angels belong in select company for showering lost causes with megabucks. http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/dipietro-released-by-hurricanes-minor-league-team-1.6499776
  10. Islanders are 4-9 since the Vanek trade.
  11. I can't be hands down the biggest moron on this board as long as you keep signing in.
  12. Yuri: seek help.
  13. I get the image of Uncle Terry as a dim bulb who is in way over his head running a professional hockey team. Just read his quotes...he sounds like someone who's had a lobotomy. He just doesn't know what he is doing. After all this failure since he took ownership, how could he offer the GM position to an inexperienced guy who knew he wasn't even qualified for the position? Didn't Terry know too? I could just see him getting all teary eyed and sentimental assembling his fantasy Sabres dream team in his plastic bubble where unicorns and rainbows all come neatly tied up in a pink ribbon.
  14. It just seems wrong that if a team finishes dead last in the NHL, 30 points behind everyone, that they should have to enter a lottery to get the overall #1 draft pick and only have a 40 percent chance of getting it. Does any other major league sport operate this way? I guess it hasn't worked out so well for the Oilers but on the other hand it sure worked out well for the Penguins.
  15. How about eating the $6 million or so owed and just send him packing? Time has proved that he's not an underachiever, he just can't play.
  16. take a lesson from the Red Sox who freed themselves of $270 mil in one swoop in a trade w the Dodgers. We have a lot of expensive parts that just aren't working.
  17. Vanek was a disgruntled hockey player in Buffalo. I don't think I ever saw him smile the whole time he was here, just grimace. He must've been a locker room cancer especially this year. And now he's been thrown to the lions. The NY market can be tough for a "superstar" who doesn't produce, especially if he got traded for a fan favorite.. So it's put up or shut up time for Thomas. I'm sure he'll succeed to some degree and have his hot streaks but will his goals mean increased wins for the Isles? I doubt it with their defense and goalie situation. There's no telling if he'll have the same chemistry that Moulson did with Tavares who were inseperable buddies, much like Vanek and Pominville. Tavares was at Moulson's house hanging out with his family the night Moulson got traded. The first game seemed forced. There was a shot of the two talking on the bench; looks like they were seriously discussing some kind of strategy. It didn't look like fun. So the trade may backfire on the Isle and only serve to submarine Tavares.
  18. I know Vanek is a sniper but I could never warm up to the guy. I think he is selfish; it was all about him. Vanish might be able to carry a team on his back for awhile and he has amazing hands but I got tired of how unenthusiastic he always was and his cryptic comments. And he'd disappear for long stretches, his endurance is suspect and I got the feeling he never wanted to be in Buffalo, especially after signing an offer sheet with Edmonton of all teams so long ago. I feel like even though we gave him a huge contract, he was some kind of elitist, like Hasek, somehow above Buffalo. FU Vanek. I think a black cloak has been lifted on this team since his departure and the arrival of the much more affable, and very talented Moulson is the same difference and will greatly add to team chemistry.
  19. Sabres need scoring period. It's good to get a Moulson who's a triggerman himself but there are concerns about any player on the wrong side of 30. Hate to be pessimistic but I don't see him returning next year either. He likes it on the NYI and I can see him going back there. Imagine, what a concept. A player actually resigning for anything other than money. I can't say this trade energizes Sabre Nation but it's with a sigh of relief that the Sabres don't get stuck empty-handed after the season. Vanek surely wouldn't have returned and I expected Regier to just let the contract expire while a Sabre. So that is good. That said Buffalo hasn't had any luck drafting scorers and this is a supposedly weak draft year...
  20. well at least Dallas is at the very bottom of the West.
  21. Bflo is just following the Penguin's blueprint. Some years you have to totally tank. Not half-tank like the Sabres have been doing the last umpteen years.
