  1. I'm also old enough to have seen all amateur Olympics before it got hijacked by the professionals and the commercials. Spare me these NHL players who long for a gold medal. Soulless robots. Pros in the Olympics is a sell-out and not what the Olympics were intended. The only thing that should matter to these NHL millionaires is a Stanley Cup. Screw a gold medal, Players should have their chance when they were pre-NHL. I'm going to miss hockey but not that phony spectacle of the Olympics. My only hope is for no terror. I don't care if the US comes in last. The Olympics are dead to me. Well at least the next 3 weeks the quality of hockey is going to be better around Bflo.
  2. Last I looked, there was not one plus guy on this whole roster. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/statistics/?hubname=nhl-sabres
  3. Who is the power play coach anyway?

    Tyler Myers

10 x 0 still = 0. The tiny brain thing does seem insulting in retrospect but I feel I have the right to insult a player, if he's been insulting me for almost five years with the same hair-tearing mistakes. It's the little things that kill me. The errant little passes, the wide shots, the bowling people over after the play, the way he generally doesn't connect. I apologize to Mr. Myers in advance for ruffling his feathers and please I'm a little extra sorry if he's sensitive to criticism, but he's the elephant in the room. The huge guy who makes crucial errors and for that I'd say Ruhedel would be just as good if not better.

Bad shots AND passes is a bad sign.

I have a dim view of Myers. I don't think he has much hockey sense. He makes too many big mistakes; I don't think he has the brains or the consistency..Kind of like Mike Wilson 2.0. I'd like to see him gone. I've given up on him. -4 today.....He's kind of like a Brontosaurus. A gentle plant eater, big body, little brain.

Tyler Myers is a 6'8 defenseman for the Sabres. He won Rookie of the Year 4 years ago but he has regressed since. He's only 23 or so...and has had several coaches. The team brought back Tallinder at several million, to see if he could help him gain his old form. Although this year has been a resurgence of sorts under Nolan, Myers is projected to finish as a -30. He just signed a 7 year/38.5 mil contract with the team. Question, does Myers have the potential while playing for the Sabres or does he just make too many mistakes?
  8. I'm sorry, I'm not a Tyler Myers fan and I don't think I ever will be one.
  9. I like Callahan, he's a local guy and he's always kicked our ass but he wants $42 mil, is 28 and injury prone.
  10. Derek Plante, Mikael Andersson, Mal Davis Michal Grosek, Jody Gage, Real Lemieux Gates Orlando, Chris Gratton, Normand Lacomb Peter Civaglia, Bob Mongrain, J.F. Sauve Mike Wilson - Tyler Myers Alexei Zhitnik - Richard Smehlik Joe Reekie - Philippe Boucher Rocky Farr, Phil Myre, John Blue
  11. I think you can usually tell a goon by the way he celebrates a goal. A goon is a borderline hockey player/thug who when he scores a goal, celebrates as if it were his first goal ever...and it's never far from the truth. I remember some memorable celebrations by Peters and Scott. It's also funny how these goons get into broadcasting after their NHL careers are over.
  12. So the definition of goon is single-dimensional/big/great fighter/can't play? Then Ray was only 6' tall/222 lb. But he was an enforcer. I think there's a difference between enforcer and goon. Somebody help me here.
  13. Here's the origins of the word goon. A person called a goon may be one of two things: either a goofy, awkward sort of an individual, or a big towering bully or thug. There is a small controversy over the invention of the word Goon. Some say it was invented by cartoonist EC Segar with the character Alice the Goon and other say he just popularized it or re-defined it as a slow-witted professional bully. http://www.wisegeek.com/where-does-the-word-goon-come-from.htm
  14. So would define a goon as a big guy who can't play and is brought on for the sole purpose of beating the **** out of everyone? I think a goon can still be a pretty good player, like Korab. Maybe the smaller players should've been eliminated from that list. Also if I remember, Schultz didn't fight too much by the time he got to the Sabres.
  15. Well geeze, didn't intend any trouble, should I take it down? I had no trouble with that site.

  17. Here's food for thought. The Sabres have had some colorful goons through their history. Here's the top six. You can guess who's top goon...There are some omissions but narrowing it down to six is a tough task and I think generally they got it right. Missing: Jerry Korab, Bob Boughner, Kaleta, Brad May, Reggie Fleming, Mike Hartman, Brian Spencer, Lee Fogolin and Val James... http://www.rantsport...sabres-history/
  18. Don't pat the Gerbe.
  19. Some players somehow can't or won't give all they have or can't fit into certain organizations but when they move to other organizations, they blossom. Maybe they enjoy it there away from B-lo ("the worst"). Maybe a new lifestyle is a breath of fresh air for them. Gerbe mentioned how their coaches and "Mr. Ron Francis" made it a point to show how much they believe in him. Don't know if it's our system, the surrounding players, the coaches, management, the staleness ...who knows? but it seems like when our players go somewhere else, especially lately, they generally do better.
  20. Gerbe was my favorite player...he's got an abundance of what the Sabres lack - heart. I remember a goal he scored for the Sabres when he did a spinarama and Lafontaine was watching and made a comment about Gerbe that he was a very special player. He is. You just can't manufacture that kind of desire, speed and skill. Buffalo lost out when it got stupid.
  21. They should let Rick and Ray get drunk and swear on the air during the game. At least this year I think it would be appropriate.
  22. May 16, Grigo's 20th birthday, can't come soon enough. I think he can join the Amerks then. But until then, he might be a man without a country. Apparently he has outgrown Juniors, but only in his own mind is he NHL ready. He is pretty clueless at 19.
  23. Please move Stafford and Leino. :bag:
  24. Bernier's getting hot under the collar at the TO media for suggesting he should've been pulled vs. Islanders.
  25. Gerbe was my favorite. As a little guy who plays hockey, he's an inspiration. I hated to see the Sabres buy him out where he had the non-stop motor they need in all their players while holding on to dead weight. He wasn't a favorite of RR, he had back surgery the year before and they didn't give him a full chance to come back...plus he was a bargain.
